Active Release Technique is a movement-based massage technique used to treat acute or chronic injuries in muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. ART is most commonly used to treat conditions related to adhesions (such as surgeries or traumas) and scar tissue in overused muscles. As adhesions build up, muscles become shorter and weaker, the motion of muscles and joints are altered, and nerves can become compressed. As a result, tissues suffer decreased blood flow, pain, and poor mobility. Conditions that can be treated with ART include: Headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ, frozen shoulder, sciatica, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, knee pain and soft tissue inflammations.
