I have been getting massages for over 25 years and when I purchased a Groupon for a massage here I thought it would be just like any other massage. It was NOT. Sylvia is AMAZING! She has so much knowledge on the muscular structure and what causes different pains in the body. I have gotten chronic headaches for over 25 years and she knew exactly what was causing them. I’ve been back twice now to Sylvia for Medical Massages on my upper body — shoulder blades, neck and head and I am amazed at the range of motion I have gotten just from her working on me. I highly recommend her!

This was the best spa ever !!! Sylvia is the best !! I would recommend everyone who is looking for a great massage therapy who is worth the money. The staff is super sweet and welcoming. I would go every weekend if I could ! This place is great!

Sylvia has an intuitive touch! She is an excellent masseuse I’ve not been to a better one. I really can’t say enough about how talented she is.

I been in better places before. I purchase a Groupon for a Brazilian and called for an appointment and asked to be scheduled for both Brazilian and leg waxing. This was my most uncomfortable Brazilian I ever had and my full legs waxing which I paid full price for it where not even full waxed. The lady did not even bother to wax my full legs, she only did spots here and there. If I am paying for a service, I expect to received the service which I am paying for. I been waxing my legs for year and now my hair grows a lot more thin and light they made not look visible, but believe me they are there. Very unprofessional place, if I go down to Tijuana, B.C. Mexico I’ll received a very treatment and service.

I just had a facial done by Samantha. Best facial and massage ever! She was sweet, soft spoken, and very professional. I felt totally relaxed! My skin looks and feels great! Definitely referring my girls, and coming back!!! After my facial, I had my 30 minute with Sylvia. I feel like a whole new person! Sylvia is the best massage therapist I’ve ever gone to. Her experience surpasses anyone I’ve gone to in the city of Redlands!

Purchased a Groupon for my daughter and I so we could have the facials and massages together. The champagne and chocolates were fantastic!
I started with what they called a facial. She rubbed and rubbed moisturizer on my face for what seemed like the longest time, placed steam for a little bit, did extractions, a mask, more moisturizer and that was it. Felt like a very entry level facial, something your girlfriend in high school gave you.
Now the massage! OMG! A 5 year old could have done about the same. I asked her if she could go a little deeper and she said the Groupon was for a Swedish massage — honey, that wasn’t even a Swedish! That was just rubbing my back! She said a deep tissue would be an extra $ 15 — well we were already 15 minutes into the massage, why would I want to pay more? Then she said she had 7 more massages to do so she wasn’t going to go too deep. WHAT? So I decided I wasn’t going too deep in my purse and I, for the first time in my life DIDN’T LEAVE A TIP! That is how entry level this service was. I am no longer going to tip for bad service just because it is the custom!!! I was cold and she never asked if I was comfortable.
The sad part is my daughter had a FANTASTIC experience. Sad for them because I walked out to take a call and didn’t leave a tip for her massage therapist and esthetician. I feel like a jerk! I guess I assumed her experience was as bad as mine.
PLUS! MY MASSAGE WAS 42 MINUTES — YES SWEETIE, I HAD MY PHONE CLOSE BY.
I use Groupon to test businesses that I want to «try before I buy» and believe me, I will not go back to this establishment. My daughter is her own person and she may choose to do so and I support her 100%.

The Groupon was $ 100 for 2 1 hour massages and 2 half hour facials and Groupon offered 20% off that day so we paid $ 80 for the 2 one hour massages and 2 half hour facials. Pretty great prices and I figure she got what we paid for and that makes me happy!
I have an appointment with my regular massage therapist next Saturday — that is what I get for cheating on her. LOL

I had received a group on as a gift, unfortunately it had expired and I just had to use the paid value of the group on (which was perfectly fine with me). I got a 60 min massage and a 30 min facial. This was my first time at Alec Ian Day Spa. I had read the reviews on Unilocal and to be honest, wasn’t expecting much. I had to rescheduled my appointment and when I rescheduled, the receptionist (can’t remember her name) stated that they would be calling me within 48 hrs to confirm my appointment. I never received a follow up call and decided to call them a couple of days after I had rescheduled my appointment. The receptionist I talked to sounded irritated that I was calling to confirm my appointment and didn’t give me the time of day.
I got to my appointment, signed in and filled out a questionnaire, since it was my first time there. I was brought into a room and started out with the 60 min massage. I believe the massage therapist’s name was Rebecca. It was a great massage! My shoulders and upper back are tense (do a lot of computer work) and I felt relaxed. Next was the 30 min facial. I didn’t know that the facial was going to take place in the same room, so decided to put my clothes back on and wait outside. All of a sudden, the door opens and there’s a girl standing there ready to come in. I didn’t even hear a knock (maybe it was faint) and I for sure didn’t hear a «can I come in?». She then tells me, «aren’t you getting a facial?» When I answered «yes», she said «okay, it’ll be in this room». She gave me a couple of mins to change and get back on the table. When she came back in, she was very unprofessional and went «Gosh, I was thinking, didn’t you know you were getting a facial?» I did know I was getting a facial but wasn’t sure where to go and if it would be in the same room. She proceeded to talk to me the whole time, did not allow me to relax, at all! Asked me personal questions like how old I was (two times), if I was married, had kids, what my occupation was… etc. When I stated I worked at a hospital, she proceeded to go «you must be making good money!» oh boy… I wouldn’t have minded conversation, if it wasn’t in a supposed «relaxing» environment. The facial consisted of a moisturizer, cleanser, mask and more moisturizer. I was very disappointed! And the facial didn’t even last for 30 mins (there was a clock in the room). Only lasted for 20 mins. I could have done my own facial at home… very disappointed. And disappointed with the customer service… very unprofessional.
Lastly, when I was getting ready to pay, the receptionist asked for my group on. She looked confused as to what to do with it. She then proceeded to walk to the back (possibly to ask someone for help), come back and still looked confused. She was looking at the computer and then asked me «who did you talk to in regards to using this group on?» I didn’t remember the receptionist’s name. She then goes, «I am not sure how much you need to pay.» OH MAN. Thankfully, when I had called, the receptionist gave me the difference I would have to pay. She took my word for it and I was charged the difference. What would have happened if I didn’t know the difference? I would probably still be standing there… haha.
Overall, the massage was great, facial not so much. Customer service.ehh. I will not be back. Future reference, if you use a group on, make sure you know the fine print and the price you will pay (if needed). Obviously the staff doesn’t know.

The worst customer service I have ever received. Save your money and go elsewhere. Sylvia and the other girls working here are the most unprofessional bunch I have ever met.
My roommate and I came here after we purchased a group on deal for a $ 40 dollar deep tissue massage. We had made our appointments 2 weeks in advanced, and they confirmed our spots.
We arrive here 5 minutes before our appointment time, and after some mumbling by the ladies in the front. One of the ladies takes my friend’s phone and marks her group-​on as used. Only then does she then proceed to tell us that ONLY ONE OF US COULD GET OUR MASSAGE TODAY. No apology, no nothing. Just simply, «well one of our ladies is out sick, so you guys can either make another appointment or one of you can go today.» At this point, we had already drove out 20 minutes and did not want to waste our time. We asked for a refund, at which point they just said «you have to deal with group-​on» and didn’t bother to acknowledge that this was not our fault that they had screwed up. And they had already marked one of the group-on’s as used.
I then proceeded to tell them that its understandable if the masseuse was sick and couldn’t make it in, but if that was the case the professional thing to do would have been to call us and let us know in advanced so we don’t waste our time coming in. That’s when she goes «well we did call you.» My roommate and I both did not receive calls.
She then proceeded to check her appointment sheet, where she then notices that she had called a number listed under a different customer’s name… and that ours was on the next line. At this point, I’m very frustrated and tell her that I think she needs to accommodate both of us, and if she can’t then to at least give us complimentary service for the next service because this was ridiculous. HER RESPONSE: «WELL, WE TRIED TO CALL YOU, IT WAS JUST THE WRONG NUMBER.»
NO DUH IDIOTS. YOU CALLED ANOTHER CUSTOMER AND NOT THE NUMBER LISTED UNDER MY NAME. Sylvia then proceeds to give us attitude about rescheduling as if somehow this mess-​up was our fault.
I’m honestly baffled how these people have jobs.

I have been coming to Sylvia for over 3 years ‚& at least once every 2 weeks for massage– Myofascial Release Therapy. Sylvia specializes in injury-​related pain, stiffness, and maintenance. My job is extremely physical-​I work 12 – 14 hour shifts, pushing gurneys, heavy beds, with even heavier patients in them. And Sylvia and her staff are the reason I can maintain the physicality of this job, after my job-​related injuries 6 years ago, which include 2 herniated discs. Sylvia specially trains her massage staff with her own 25 years of knowledge and experience base. Once I discovered Sylvia and her staff, it was something that finally helped me. Finally, I found something/​some how to maintain my old injuries, that was affordable and truly heals me. (I actually don’t want more people to discover this hidden, unassuming gem, because then I will have to share availability of the staff.) But, Sylvia&staff deserve this 5 star rating. Because of discovering them, I can now afford to maintain my own quality of life, being active with my kids and family, and maintaining my very physical job.

What can I say, It’s definitely a must go to Spa. I purchased a great deal on groupon for a 60 min massage and was so pleased with the service, the ambiance and how clean it was. It certainly made my first experience at Alec Ian so worth returning again in the future. The staff was very friendly not to mention it was super clean and the lighting was perfect in the rooms. I appreciate how nice and friendly everyone was and answered all my questions too. I’ve been to a few massage places before but what I liked in particular about this spa was the attention to detail and worked on my problematic areas and was informative and knowledgeable. I suffer from sciatic nerve pain and when I explained my problem, my massage therapist worked on me and help eliviate much of my pain. I went in going with a pain level at a 7 and leaving with a pain level at a 2. I also like the fact that my massage therapist was firm yet gentle, I know I will return again for another visit. Thank you for healing me and making me feel better, until next time, I will be returning for the 90 min massage.

Got a really good deal for a couples massage off of groupon. Was definitely worth it. The massage was great & badly needed by me & my wife. The place is very clean, it was very relaxing. Was pleased with Te treatment we both received, I was kinda expecting them to try & rush it through the 60 minute massage but they didn’t which is great. Will be coming back in the near future.

BRAZILIAN WAX FRON HELL!!! My original waxer did not tell me her name and was obviously inexperienced. The first girl kept waxing me in the same place, like 6 times, saying she it was her first time using the wax (she still left hair there) and, finally, after an hour of what used to take my old waxer 20 minutes, the manager lady came in. I tried to be patient, but it was hard when the first girl was telling me how inexperienced she is and how she can’t handle being waxed. I have a high threshold for pain, so I knew it was bad when I couldn’t keep quiet. She got nervous and asked the manager to take over, when I said that I didn’t come there for her to learn on, since she seemed clueless. Then, the manager lady kept saying how good the other girl did, that she takes longer to get it all and how my hair was too long, when it wasn’t. I just couldn’t get out of there fast enough! I was late to work, since I didn’t expect it to take an hour and ten minutes. They left patches of hair I’ll have to take care of. Worst waxers ever! That’s what I get for just trying a place on Groupon and not checking Unilocal,first!

Bought a promotional package with Advantage marketing and i was completely satisfied. It was for 3 trial services to this spa and I am SO happy i got it! I was hesitant at first but really enjoyed coming into this spa for my massage. Will deifinitely be back!

Okay well to start off this is my FIRST Unilocal review ever and that already says a lot. I felt like after being scammed I had to create an account to let people know what is going on with this place. My boy friend and I were leaving SBVC (San Bernardino Valley College) when two guys approached about this «GREAT» package that they are only offering to «20 students». The package was three visits for Facial, Massage and Microdermabrasion for «ONLY» $ 39.99″. With Valentines Day on Saturday my boyfriend bought it. During the whole time he was selling us the product he didn’t let us read the back of the brochure. After my boyfriend paid and as were walking away, the sales representative said,“Don’t forget to tip they’re great!” We continued to walk when my boyfriend saw the the conditions on the back it says that there is a MANDATORY 18% gratuity. He never mentioned this so we went back and confronted as to why he failed to mention this. He said that the brochure were wrong and they its not required. He said call the number on the brochure. So we did. The receptionist said that «WHETHER SATISFIED OR NOT, THE GRATUITY IS MANDATORY» So we tried contacting the marketing and they weren’t able to take our call because they were having «high volume of calls» for the past two hours. We went back to the sales rep once again and he claimed that he told us about the gratuity when he stated «Don’t forget to tip them they’re great» Since when is a tip mandatory when I am not happy with the service. As they saw us trying to contact campus authorities they immediately left the premises. They weren’t even authorized to sell anything in the first place. I am not upset about having to pay a tip, that’s understandable. I am upset with the DISHONESTY. If this place wants to be an honest company they need honest marketing. I am definitely going to escalate this and file a report with customer affairs.
And I was so surprised that this place even had two stars!

Wouldn’t recommend for a Brazilian wax, also known as the «playboy.»
After the technician was finished I had to call her back in the room to get a few patches she’s missed (the whole bottom part)
After she was finished I noticed there were several missed spots, and some spots she kept going over that were now sore. I just left well enough alone and decided I wouldn’t return.
A week later and I’m ready for another Brazilian to get the spots she missed. Hope you have better luck.

I purchased a great deal on groupon for 6 massages– I had erickah (sp) as my massage therapist and she was by far the best masseuse I have ever had.
If you go to Merle Norman make sure to request her!

Come here once and you’ll probably leave pretty happy and with decent things to say.
HOWEVER, become a repeat customer, and you will wish you never bought any sort of «deal”/package in the first place.
I will say that the service has never been bad. I’ve had 2 facials and a massage to date, and I don’t have anything negative to say about the girls or the services. BUT, my review is for the business itself and their conflicting information provided by employees at the front desk (notice how most of the negative reviews aren’t about the services themselves – but you definitely can’t stay afloat with just good services when there are so many other things that sour the deal). Anyway, they had a representative coming around during Christmas 2013 selling these «exclusive packages to neighboring businesses». It was $ 60 for a package of 2 facials, 2 massages & a makeup lesson. I never buy these things, but my sweet boss wanted to purchase it as a gift for me and another employee. It very clearly states on the back that a 15% mandatory gratuity will be added to all services. This is no problem at all, and I’m all for them getting a tip for their service. After my first visit, I wanted to ensure that the 15% I was being charged was being given to the girl that did my facial. They confirmed. Great. Now comes visit 3. My 15% gratuity total was $ 7.25. I give the girl at the front desk a $ 20 bill (remember, this isn’t the same person that performs the service), and she says «Is this her tip?» REALLY? The look on my face must have said it all because she proceeded to get me change. I asked her to give me $ 12 back, so the girl who did the service (Jesseca) could have an even $ 8, and she had the nerve to say «75 cents!?!», in the snottiest tone. I proceeded to help her with her math skills, and tell her it’s an even $ 8 for Jesseca and $ 12 back to me. She then claims that Jesseca doesn’t get the 15%. When I asked who does, she claims the spa does. PLEASE tell me what the spa did to earn a GRATUITY?! After I explained that I was told on my first visit that it does go to the esthetician, she claims I was given the wrong information. I’m not sure what kind of strategy this is, but this was absurd and off-​putting. She also claimed that the $ 60 that was paid up front for the package was a «membership fee» and the services are considered free, which is why I now owe a 15% «gratuity» to the spa PLUS I’m expected to tip the esthetician.
Seriously, find another spa that won’t treat you like an ungracious customer. The owner clearly needs to take more of an interest in customer feedback because it’s going to be the demise of her spa.

Actually I am really surprised at the awful reviews because I came to Alec Ian Day Spa a few weeks ago and had a great experience there!
I’d rate this spa somewhere between 3.5 to 4 stars. I bought a groupon and had forgotten to redeem it for months. It was really difficult to get an appointment, and I had originally bought the groupon with a friend, but we were unable to both schedule appointments on the same day due to availability.
I came in and started off with a 30 min facial, then 1 hour long massage. I had no problems with redeeming my groupon and everybody was on time. The facial was good, my esthetician did a good job cleansing, exfoliating and extracting. I got a few compliments the next day from co-​workers saying my skin was glowing so perhaps she did a good job! For my massage, I had Paige and she was great. The massage was strong and firm, and the table was heated and very cozy.
For the $ 39 package I got, I felt it was a great deal. They’re currently having a promotion until the end of January where you can buy the same package for $ 40 if you purchase the gift certificate from their store. I liked it so much and the location is so convenient for me that I ended up purchasing one more to use before June of this year. If you’re in the Redlands area, I strongly recommend purchasing the $ 40 and giving it a try!
