Hands On Knitting Center

I have been a customer since the Grand Opening. A very friendly place. One is always welcome to sit and knit, to get instructions, to get help with mistakes. They also provide blocking and «end weaving» services. There are many classes — some are even free — and mystery knitting projects. Also crochet and spinning (yarn, not stationary bikes) classes.
Recommend this business to everyone.

I’m NOT an experienced knitter. So having these lovely owners so helpful was such a relief.
The shop is set up like a workshop, not a store. No salesperson hovering, but the owners do encourage you to bring in your knitting and hang out. Other knitters will bring in snacks, coffees, teas, donuts, etc. Someone once brought in avocados from their backyard to share. So lovely! (The store has some coffee cups too, if you forget to bring in your own.)
Oh, don’t worry. There’s PLENTY of stuff to buy! (LOL!) The owners offer so many wonderful items. They’ll also order items for you. I ordered a needle set, and many skeins of a wool yarn in «my» color.
There’s WiFi so you can search for patterns if you can’t find one in the store.
A very relaxing experience. If I could, I’d spend everyday there!

These folks are the best! No question too silly, no problem too dumb, no knitter too new. They are unfailingly helpful and friendly. They are all enablers to increase a stash of yarn… I love them, my wallet does not! Seriously, the prices are fair, I just can’t resist the yarn.

I am in heaven! My six year old daughter loves to tie knots and make traps so I thought she might love to learn to knit! This place was welcoming, kind, professional and sweet to her and she does, she really enjoys the knitting! Molly was super, Sharon was fabulous and all the gals around the knitting table were more than willing to chat up my daughter. We are well in our way to our first joint project… a beautiful pink wool scarf! Thank you Hands On Knitting Center for making our town a community.

Best knitting shop in the I.E., hands down! Go in for the amazing selection of the best, highest quality yarns, the needles & notions, the help on any pattern or problem, stay for the freindly, welcoming owners Sue, Sharon & Molly, and the lovely knitting society around the big project table! I went in 2 years ago for help with a crochet problem, have been a weekly regular ever since. Today is my 1 year anniversay of Molly teaching me how to knit! I am a knitter for life, and love it, thanks to my freinds at HOKCt!!!

Great customer service is a major plus for me, makes me want to visit an establishment several times. Thank you to the ladies for great customer service, helping and oohs and ahhs! I hope to see you every Wednesday for Knit and Knatter and to do some shopping!

This place is an oasis. I stopped in and Molly greeted me right away. She was warm and I felt welcomed to a community not just her store — which is fabulous. Social knitting. Free classes and warm smiles. I’m new to Redlands and returning to knitting after several years away and I can’t wait to join in with the group here. Thanks for an awesome experience.

Awesome place! From the first time I visited, I was treated like family. Everyone here is interested not only in what you are crocheting or knitting, but also what’s going on in your life. They really have become my dear friends. If I can’t make it to Wednesday night social knit, I definitely feel as though something is missing from my week.
Great selection of yarn, fiber, and tools. Molly, Sharon, and Sue are great for giving advice and help when needed.
Most Wednesdays there are snacks brought in by the wonderful patrons and twice a year they do a pajama party which is a hoot!

This is the happiest place on Earth.
I can’t imagine someone coming here 6 times and not being greeted or introduced around. It sounds like you’re mixing up shops.
I love this place. Everyone is helpful with yarn, ordering something if they don’t have it. The owners and other knitters are so helpful. Since they opened I have been coming to the shop. I have learned so much and improved my skills.
I have visited many yarn shops and I’ve never found a place like this. Everyone is warm, friendly and welcoming.

I’ve been going to Hands On Knitting Center since they opened. The owners are very knowledgeable and are so willing to help you with whatever knitting problem that you may have. They’re incredibly nice, and will really go out of their way to see that you have a good shopping experience. They will even give you free individual knitting lessons! Most places charge for a service like that.
I can’t understand the long negative review below because every time I’m here, which is a lot, everyone always says Hello to new customers, especially the owners.

This has to be the best yarn shop in the Inland Empire. Open knitting all the time, free knitting lessons, and very warm, friendly, and fun loving people. You walk in the door and everyone says hello. If the owners are busy helping someone, others will greet you. Coffee, tea and snacks are in the kitchen area for all to enjoy.
The yarn is of the finest quality and the selection is amazing. It as if you walked into the middle of a rainbow. It is very easy to see, and touch the large selection of yarns.
The warm and friendly atmosphere makes one feel as if they are knitting in your best friends living room. If you want learn to knit, improve your skills and make new friends, become part of the family of happy knitters at Hands On Knitting.

I have been a customer for 3 years since they opened. This place is so wonderful. They owners will help you with any pattern or yarn– even if you bought them somewhere else. The customers are friendly and a supportive group no matter what your skill level. The owners teach and help for FREE! Where do you get free help anymore?
I am a better knitter and spinner because of this shop and the PEOPLE who go there. I don’t know when Megan from arrowhead came by 6 times, but I have been in the shop when new people come and they are ALWAYS greeted, introduced, and helped.
Try them out. You will not be disappointed.

I was waiting to get in several visits to the shop before writing a review. Unfortunately those six visits all earned just one star. I wish I had even one positive thing to say about this shop but I don’t. Here are the things that made each visit a one star…
1. I was never greeted. Never. I tried to be nice and always buy one skein of yarn just to try to keep the faith that the next visit would be better. The only time I was spoken to was when checking out.
2. There was always a big knitting group there. Normally that would be a wonderful thing but the group sits around a big table and takes up most of the space in front of the yarn. That means you cannot easily look at the pitiful shelves of yarn without having to ask one of them to move their chair. Everyone really makes you feel like you are invading their precious knitting group by trying to shop and the ones I accidentally bumped into were very rude. There is a classroom space there… THAT is what should be used for group and get everyone out of the way for shoppers. I guess they only care about selling yarn to the yarn group.
3. Extremely poor yarn selection. I’m not actually sure how this shop stays in business. I guess the large grumpy knitting group likes to shop there. I suppose if you just want one skein of Cascade 220 superwash for a hat you are in luck but there is nothing there that isn’t in any other low end yarn shop. If you did want to knit something out of the mediocre yarn they certainly wouldn’t have it in a large enough quantity to accommodate a large project. The shelves always looked half empty. Certainly not a shop you’d be happy to walk in to.
The final straw was my visit yesterday. I couldn’t look at most of the yarn because of grumpy knitters who would not budge, the place was silent. How can that many people just sit there and not talk? Again, that feeling of having interrupted their group with wanting to attempt to support an LYS. At check out I had to stand there for several minutes waiting for the woman to finally put down her project and come help me. After paying she said absolutely nothing to me. Not a thank you for coming in, thank you for shopping there… nothing.
All of the good reviews on here are absolutely shocking to me. I gave this place a shot six times and they were all absolutely awful. I won’t ever be going back and I will advise anyone looking for yarn shops in the area to do themselves a big favor and skip it.

Its pretty surprising to find all these rave reviews. I for one did not have a good experience here. When I went there were a lot of knitters and yet if there was a worker or owner I did not know because I was completly ignored I said hello and barely got a response. I was in there a total of 5 min and walked out ill never visit this shop again.

This store is perfect for my yarn addiction. It’s hard to find yarn stores with a large selection. If you’ve never gone outside of Joann for yarn you are really missing something. The employees are super helpful, you can bring a pattern in and ask for help or look for tips on a technique you are trying to learn. Prices range from $ 10−25+ a skein. They have offered me help with picking up speed using DPNs.
As far as the store not having a ton of visual interest, I’m okay with that, because they have tons of yarn sorted by weight (very helpful).
If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, they have classes that you can attend. Most I’ve seen are free, you just bring your own supplies and they will walk you through what to pick up. It’s a relaxing hobby and not difficult to pick up.

Here’s an outsider’s first rule for understanding Southern California shopping/​dining: It all looks the same. Seriously, the strip mall pall hanging over the region is numbing, and it makes inside knowledge all the more important.
If you’re interested in substance, genuine style, and the craft of knitting practiced at a near-​magical level, then you need to get your Hands On.
Not only is the owner of this yarntopia a needle-​pattern-​material savant, she is a bona fide fashionista who will transport you to new worlds of fabulous fuzziness.
Once inside you’ll almost certainly encounter a lively cabal of knitters working, noshing, and chatting away. You have questions? They have answers aplenty.
Don’t see exactly what you want? Don’t know exactly what you want? Gratification and illumination are merely a quizzical glance away.
Finally, the knitting activist in you will love to know that Hands On does all kinds of good work teaching in the community.
The whole affair just makes me feel like the inside of a mitten.

I hate to give a less than favorable review because the people were so nice. The store had very little visual appeal, which is not good for a yarn store. The selection is pretty mediocre. I didn’t buy a single thing. :(

Visiting from out of town, decided to find a local yarn shop, and thanks to google, discovered Hands on Knitting ½ mi from our hotel, off W. Colton Ave. The managers were very friendly, introduced me to other knitters sitting with their knitting, showed me the different projects being made, and then gave me excellent advice on the project I just finished. They have a delightful selection of yarn as well. I purchased a bottle of special soap to wash knitted garments, and the owner added that this is a ‘no rinse’ soap. I’ll come back to knit or chat, next time in Redlands.
