Motley Zoo Animal Rescue

Potential adopters should be wary about this place. My daughter tried to adopt with them and the whole process felt like a scam.
She found a pet she was interested in, and we confirmed with them that there were no applications already being considered. When you submit an application you have to pay them a fee («donation») before your application will even be considered. Make sure you keep any confirmation email you get from this payment!!! Motley Zoo tried to claim that my daughter never paid them and that she needed to pay them again! She forwarded them the confirmation email and they miraculously found her payment! I guess it was a mistake to not pay them more, because she received a terse reply that they were processing her application and then no further communication. A few days later the pet she wanted disappeared from their site and there was no further word from Motley Zoo.
The application fee might not seem like a lot of money, but I wonder how many other people they do this to. They walked away with her money and refused to respond to any inquiries. I also find it suspicious how many puppies they have for «adoption». They easily have three times as many puppies as surrounding rescues, and I really wonder where they all come from.
If you’re looking to adopt, please instead consider a reputable rescue like PAWS or the Humane Society!

We adopted our dog from Motley Zoo a couple years ago and were very happy with the entire process. Yes, we filled out a long application and yes we sent pics of our fenced yard. It seemed reasonable to us that MZ wanted to ensure that their rescue animal was going to someone who could appropriately care for it. It was very clear that they cared about making sure each animal ended up in the RIGHT home, not just into A home.
Since then, our dog has gone to the Rock Star daycare multiple times and it is always great. We love the webcam, love the cleanliness of the place, and appreciate the care with which our dog is treated. He acts happy to go there, and is exhausted at night — a great combination! I highly recommend them.

Let me start off by saying that I’ve have many friends that have adopted through Motley zoo with no problem. I however had a MUCH different experience, and will NEVER recommend them to anyone.
I was able to meet a kitty through a friend who was fostering. I feel in love with one of the kitties in the group and sent in my application to adopt the next day. The application was LONG, which is understandable– they’re trying to find good homes of the animals they help. I sent in the application along with an email saying if I missed anything please let me know. From there I got an automated response saying the process of the application could take 3 – 5 days. Per their website I emailed 24 hours later making sure there was nothing else on my end that needed to be taken care of. In response I got a VERY snooty email saying the application can take 3 – 5 days. The next day I got an email saying they needed vet records for my current animals, and I emailed back saying that we had faxed them to the number provided and to let me know if it didn’t come through– I also provided the vet name and number. I then waited 4 days (2 business days) and heard nothing back. I emailed checking up on the application, when this happened I received a flat out rude email saying my application wasn’t complete because they didn’t have vet records. At this point I was ready to give up, but decided to call the number I found on google. I told the person on the phone how disappointed I was in the lack of communication received from their volunteers. The person on the phone said she would investigate and follow up with me «soon». I waited that night for a phone call and nothing. About 3pm the next day I decided to call back and spoke with a different girl. This one was much nicer– and we were able to figure out what was missing on the application. That night I emailed the rest of the info.
Today I got a response saying that I’m good to adopt– but the cat I was interested in, was now paired with another cat, and in order to get the cat I wanted I would have to adopt both. We already have 1 cat and 1 dog and after the tireless back and forth we’re not able to adopt the cat.
As we look for a companion for our cat we will be looking elsewhere because of the horrible experience we had with this organization.

These folks really care about their dogs and their families– we adopted a young pup from them, and the process was smooth with the best interests of the pup in mind. We’ve also ended up using their daycare (new puppy= exhausting) so that she is well socialized and isn’t in a crate all day while we are at work, and it has been excellent. You can watch the dogs on their webcam, and it is good sign that the dogs get breaks (not just a play free-​for-​all all day), they are separated into different size/​activity level rooms, and well monitored. My pup is very happy when she comes home, and gets very happy when she knows she is going back! Overall, can’t say enough nice things about Motley Zoo. Good people, good pups.

This is a business not in it for the animals, application process terrible, communication terrible, rules and policies pretty much exclude every loving family out there looking for a rescue animal to help. When we requested for a human to call us we got more unhelpful emails, with some pretty snotty replies! Would not recommend them to anyone for any reason, sorry animal overpopulation, we went to a breeder and got a new family member right away!

I am a big fan of this rescue and have adopted all three of my animals from Motley Zoo (1 dog, 2 cats.)
The director goes out of her way to ensure the animals they have taken responsibility for find their forever homes — and the lengthy application process others have mentioned is in place to ensure this happens. It is important to remember that they are invested in the well being of their animals first and foremost.
It’s clear from the hundreds of adoption and community events that they put on as well as the daycare facility that they run (all of these volunteer based), that they have a great thing going.

First let me preference this review with the fact that I’ve always had a dog campion. My dog has always been my child so when the ridiculous application asked for vet info mine has been the same vet for every dog since I was 10. Also I always took my dog to daycare at Bisquits in federal way as well as regular grooming appointments. I waited to get another dog to make sure I had amble time and the perfect situation. So here we go found a puppy on pet finder, inquired and was told by Motley to expedite adoption to come to an upcoming adoption fair. Ok of course me and my boyfriend went met the puppy and as fate had it fell in love with his brother as that puppy seemed to def have choosen us. So was told to fill out the application and so we ran straight home and did so. I had to go to wrk and it took my poor bf over an hr to take pictures upload, it even asks for a utility bill ?! Me me my Roomate live together my bf in his place. When it asked for landlord we put me as the owner who is my roommates mom wrks in Mexico as a teacher and can’t be reached except by email. She told us to put me as I am the 13 years older then her daughter and run the household. So when they emailed to ask why we lied about residency I explained the situation gave the the owners email and even Skype info. But no they said because we lied the dog would poss be in danger ! Ok so you never even bothered to contact the landlord … Or the vet … Or mind you that I have volunteered at Gingers Animal rescue. No you just said no and that was that. Well my heart was broken the puppy loved me and my bf and yes you could have saved an extra dog as he would have had an amazing forever family and home ! Please be more caring in the future

Jamie and Laurie and both Sarah’s and multiple other people who work there are just amazing. We have adopted a kitty from them and we have found the perfect match to fit our family. They were quick on their adoption and easy to apply. The facility is clean and always friendly and welcoming. We love to come in and just pet the kitties!

This animal rescue and doggie daycare is simply amazing! The dedicated staff of volunteers and dog trainers are so knowledgable and passionate about their work. I truly admire that my experience with Motley Zoo has always been positive. They continually make animal rescue positive and focus on that, making it fun and exciting! The doggie daycare rooms are exciting to look in on, and the daycare clients are always having a blast. The «cat lounge» where adoptable cats reside is fun and inviting to the public. Their adoption events held at local pet stores are exciting, and adoptions run smoothly and always end with a happy forever family! They also have a nice Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest page — filled with adorable photos of adoptable animals. There is no better place to come to donate, foster, volunteer, and adopt with than Motley Zoo Animal Rescue!

These guys are sketchy at best… at least currently. No responses/​support to foster families, bringing in ‘good breeds to be adopted’ and zero feedback to adoptive families. VERY SAD for the dogs.

We adopted our dog through MZ and are very grateful for that experience. They are slow to respond and it can be frustrating. My advice is to be patient and keep trying because in the end, for us, it was worth it. My experience with the daycare was not as positive as the adoption but maybe their style isn’t for everyone. It’s a volunteer organization and this is something to take into consideration.

I was inspired to work with an animal shelter after adopting a cat from Everett county shelter. The cat actually turned out to have a very aggressive cancer (unbeknownst to the shelter), and he died within a month, but he definitely *chose* us as the family/​home he wanted to stay with during his last days. I signed up for that shelter’s foster/​volunteer program, but they were in Everett and I live in Redmond. It just wasn’t going to work out. I mentioned this to a friend, and she recommended Motley Zoo, a shelter she had had good experience with.
I filled out the long foster home application. Yes, it IS long… just as long as the adopter application, but after reading it, I can see why. These people really care about what is BEST for the animals and the families. They really work hard to screen potential partnerships, to match them up… as well as any good matchmaking service!
I was accepted as a foster home 2 years ago, and have now fostered around 25 different cats and kittens through Motley Zoo (even adopted one of them, too). With each foster experience, my respect for Motley Zoo grows. The deep level of caring and desire to «do whatever it takes», not only for the animals, but for the adopters, is truly astounding, and always as professional as possible. There is also a high level of integrity, which I believe is the reason they have SO many loyal fans.
I love the «concept», too. When their adoptable animals (Roadies) find a «furever home», they become Rock Stars. And newly rescued animals are named for local bands and musicians. If the animals are lucky, they might get to *meet* their namesake, and the photos that result from those meetings are just adorable and heartwarming! Good PR for the bands, as well as increasing the publicity (and potential adoption opportunities) for the animals to find good homes.
This is a volunteer organization, and all the volunteers I’ve met and worked with have HUGE hearts, forfeiting incredible amounts of their time and effort! I wish everyone could see how much goes on behind the scenes. Even though I play a very small role, I feel lucky and honored to be a part of this organization.

Great concept for a pet rescue but ridiculous application process. The application process to volunteer at my kids local school was not this intense. You are required to download photographs of your house including your fence, even if you are adopting a cat! While I understand they are trying to make sure the animal goes to a great home, a five page application including uploading several pictures of your house is a bit much. There are several other great rescue centers including the Humane Society through Petco that do not require such an intense application. I will not recommend this place to anyone unless they have 3 or 4 hours to burn to take pictures, upload them to the computer, attach them to the application and fill out the lengthy application.
Also, the lady at the front desk had very little interest in assisting me and seemed bothered that we were there. I had to ask all the questions about the adoption process. «So I put my name on this list, then what? Oh, it might be a few days for an application to arrive. How long does that usually take? Is there anyone interested in the kitty we were interested in?, etc.» I know these people are probably volunteers but try to seem somewhat pleasant and maybe a tiny bit helpful if you want these lovely animals to find a home.

We love taking our puppy to Rockstar Treatment. It’s a safe and fun environment for our little guy. He comes home worn out from all the play, but more importantly he’s getting the socialization he wouldnt get if he were in crate at home every day. This place is run by volunteers from Motley Zoo, so the staff has a ton of training and rehabilitation experience. We tried two other doggy daycares before finding Rockstar, so I’m confident in saying you won’t find better on the eastside. They’re conveniently located just outside Redmond Town Center. Stop by and ask for a tour and information. You won’t regret it.
