Ric’s Garage Door & Opener Service

On Friday our garage door broke in exactly the same way it had in July, when Ric’s came to fix it. It was hanging crookedly about 3 and 6 inches from the garage floor and wouldn’t budge.
I called Ric’s and was told no one could come until next Wednesday. I said, but this was your July repair that didn’t hold (a loose drum) and my husband and I both work this weekend – we need to get the car out. Sorry, the dispatcher told me, nothing till Wednesday. Then she suggested two impossible reasons for it to break again – our using it manually or a car bumping into the door. No, I said, neither had happened. I explained one last time that we needed to get the car out of the garage and that it was their work at issue. Nope, Wednesday was it.
I then checked Unilocal and called a company with a five star rating. They came out four hours later and replaced both drums (both were loose, held by one bolt instead of two). The cost was not much more than Ric’s charged for tightening the one bolt, which held for six months before it broke again.
I appreciated their friendliness in July, but that’s not enough to make up for a poor fix and then pretty much refusing to come out again – five days away for working people who need a car doesn’t cut it, especially when it was their work in the first place.

He gave me several things to watch on my 20 year old door, but did not pressure me to fix anything and left it up to me. We’ve had several contactors at our house over the past 2 years and I would rate Ric’s as one of top.

I had Ric’s out to replace a broken garage door spring. They arrived on time and in 40 minutes, they replaced both springs and also quieted both my doors operation with 16 new plastic rollers for a total of $ 439.00 before taxes. The installer left 6 nuts barely engaged on a hinge bracket that holds two heavy door sections together. I noticed the bottom section sagging on that side and before calling them I looked and saw that each nut needed to be tightened a full inch, which I did. I let them know (with photos) how the installer had left the job and told them that paying nearly $ 500 for 40 minutes work and less than $ 80 in hardware was way to high — especially leaving the job undone.
They told me that my math was incorrect and never apologized for such shoddy work. I’m done with this business. Should have read their reviews on Unilocal

Fantastic service today! We broke a spring on our garage door and it was stuck closed. I called first thing this morning and they had someone out to my house exactly when promised within hours. Replaced the springs in about 45 minutes and the cost was extremely reasonable. Technician was friendly, professional and very helpful when I had questions about replacing the doors completely. When we do that in the next couple of years, they will be the ones I call! I love finding reliable, honest home repair companies and I can’t recommend this one enough!

We replaced two 15 year old wooden doors. A single and a double door. We chose Amarr Heritage 3000 doors.
Brian did a great job explaining the options to us. He came out to look at our doors the same day (as opposed to Costco’s phone que, automated robodialer, and waiting a week for an appointment that they wanted to reschedule). Brian steered us away from manufactures he thought were risky. He was happy to explore modifications and ideas I had about increasing the openings. His attitude and sales style were easy going and low pressure. The price Brian came up with was lower than Costco for same doors/​install.
We had to wait for the doors to come from back east, but that’s the manufacturer’s problem not Ric’s Garage Door. It was two weeks.
The installer, Josh, called to confirm the appointment. He came out and single handedly completed the install in about 4hrs. All of the hardware was replaced and hauled off (except the existing garage door openers). The doors roll perfectly, and are sealed up tight. They are amazingly quiet when operating. The work area was swept up and clean as a whistle. Finally Josh was energetic and happy the entire time.
I’d happily recommend Ric’s for anyone looking to get new doors. A quality job done by a local company, for a value price!

Had an 11 year old builder-​grade Genie opener replaced with a Chamberlain 3255. Debbie was fast to reply and arrange for Chris to do the install. Both communicated with me well and stayed on schedule. I recommend and would call on them again.

Very pleased with their services. Prompt on the estimating visit and prompt on installation. Provided good advice to determine the scope of work for replacing my garage door and offered a reasonable price. The installation was performed flawlessly by Josh, including some extra work to improve the appearance of the garage. I love the door and the opener!

Experience was excellent. From the start of the sales process, Brian helped us pick out the door we needed and gave us very distinct advice in terms of the materials that would fit our landscape as well as the direction of the elements that could impact our door over time. We never felt upsold or on our own during the process and had fast, friendly, efficient service. I was surprised that Josh was able to install the track into our plaster ceiling in the garage (1920’s home) but was able to do so without leaving any damage behind.
Would do business with again.

Wish I had called Better Built garage repair instead of these guys. They came to repair our garage, charged $ 200 to replace tracks and rollers while I was at work. By the time I got home the garage door still wasn’t opening or closing without several tries. I called them immediately and asked them to show up the next day to complete the repair. They didn’t. I had to follow up myself and they insisted I make another appointment for the following day.
I called today to ask what repairs were done on visit #2. The lady gave me a long spiel about how she doesn’t know and won’t know until the next day and that she’d have to call me blah blah blah.
Kind of annoying.

I found myself in a serious bind when the garage door on the house I just bought broke and was stuck open. Although the house is now mine, the previous owners are leasing back from me for a couple of months while waiting on their new house to be built. We were able to force the door closed but it needed to be replaced right away as the family living in the house is packing for their move and really need access in and out through the garage door.
I then called Ric’s and was told their salesman would call me the next day. He didn’t call until 3 days later and told me he’d gotten my phone number wrong which is why I hadn’t heard from him sooner. I let him know that I needed to get the door replaced ASAP and asked if that was going to be possible. He assured me it wouldn’t be a problem. We made an appointment for the next day so he could see if there would be a way to safely get the door in temporary working order and to show me options for the new door I’d be buying. The people living in the house made arrangements to be home at 2pm since the appointment window was 2pm to 4pm. At 4:05pm with no sign of anyone from Ric’s I called to find out how much later it would be and was told that they’d been shorthanded and wouldn’t be able to make it. The guy still living in the house was very upset because he’d taken the afternoon off from work and asked to speak to them, so I gave him their number. When he called, he was told the salesman was out sick and that they’d left a message for me that morning letting me know my appointment had been cancelled. I work from home and I absolutely did not get a phone call and there was no voicemail. They also told him that I was being unrealistic wanting a door installed within a week or two and it would be 4 – 6 weeks at least. I was done at that point.
I called another company who was fantastic to work with and in 3 business days I had a new door, opener and wireless keypad installed. Apparently I wasn’t being so unrealistic after all.

Wish I could give them a full review, but their salesperson never called back. Worked out fine, tho, gave my business to one of their competitors.

My 8 year old garage door decided to stop working. Based on reviews here on Unilocal,I called Ric’s. The woman I spoke with was able to assess exactly what was wrong over the phone and set up an appointment for me. The gentleman showed up, did the repairs quickly and the price was more than reasonable. If I ever have problems with my garage door again, I would definitely use them again.

For the last 10+ years hubby had been doing the cable repairs on our 300 lb. double wide extension spring garage door. When it broke this time he was ready for a pro to fix it. I called another local place with a lot of 5-​star reviews and when the gentleman showed up all he said was that it needed a torsion spring retrofit and he wouldn’t touch it. Then he left. So then I called Ric’s and they showed up same day, two man crew, totally professional, job is done right and I’ll call them again the next time I need help! Don’t hesitate to call Ric!

I was in desparate need of a new garage door and started calling around. Called two different companies and got a voicemail on one (no one EVER called me back) and I did get a voice on the other one that said she would have someone call me… I waited 4 days with no call back. So I call again and was told they were busy and they would get to me when they had time! So I hung up and called Ric’s…I got a very nice person on the phone who was helpful and patched me through to someone immediately who sent someone out the very next day! He was sick (but in great humor) and estimated it and asked when I wanted it delivered and installed! I asked about the next Friday and was told SURE! NO PROBLEM! The day came and he arrived 5 minutes early to the appointment time, installed the door and I will never use anyone else ever! You guys rock! Thank you!!!

My mother-​in-​law survived 50 years in our house without a garage door opener, but we finally gave in today.
An hour of web research turned up Sears, Home Depot, and Ric’s installing openers around Seattle. Ric’s had 3 5-​star reviews and one horrible review, and the other places didn’t have reviews, so I first visited Sears and Home Depot over the weekend, then called Ric’s on Monday. They came out for an estimate today (Wednesday).
For all three sources (plus Amazon, which has a plethora of reviews) Chamberlain seems to be the standard manufacturer, and «belted» the standard choice. Single doors take a ½ horsepower unit. If noisy is ok, there are other choices, but we sought tranquility.
They said he’d appear between 8 and 9am — sure enough the man showed at 8:30. We quickly converged on the standard Chamberlain ½ hp belted model. He found our set-​up to have no complications and gave his standard estimate — maybe $ 50 or $ 100 more than Sears or Home Depot (for 2 doors), but he was an impressive installer, so we immediately asked him to install the openers on our two doors. Probably not coincidently, he had brought along exactly the hardware we chose for the estimate.
He estimated 2 hours for the 2 doors. It turned out to be more like 3 to 3 ½ because our old doors required shaving some edges and adjusting some springs and shifting one hinge a touch. He was patient and explained everything, as well as more about pythons, mountain bikes, and college basketball. It would have taken me all day, and I would have botched at least a few details.
My mother-​in-​law should have done this back in 1960, if she could have found Ric’s Opener Service. We’re quite pleased.

I searched far and wide for the best service and price to replace my garage doors, and Ric’s Garage door service was the perfect match. Ric’s came as a reference from a local friend of ours after I had been disappointed by the estimates and service given by other competitiors I had found on Craigslist, Yellowpages, and even Costco’s vendor. Ric’s has a incredible order turnaround time and the removal and installation of my doors was flawless. The staff is very helpful and friendly. My neighbors have already commented multiple times how great the doors look and now they are considering replacing their own as we all had wooden doors installed when we first moved here.
