The Onyx

Everything about this apartment complex was a pretty nice experience for me.
The reason for the low rating:
— The high level management/​staff is very friendly. But the exception of a few, the rest of the staff are not.
— When I had to cancel my lease, I was given a bill for various wear-​and-​tear issues. I still can’t believe they footed me with the bill to replace the bathroom floor and carpet.
— They keep raising the rates.

Don’t ever rent a house at Onyx. Maintenance work orders never get done on time. If you call them up and check the status, don’t be surprised if you get a rude reply and you have to wait for ages to get small issues fixed. They would say that they are working on emergencies like houses having no water and electricity. If the maintenance guys are working on emergencies all the time, you can imagine how well the apartment is maintained all the time.

Not a good place to be in. Live here only if you need to be in proximity to MSFT campus.

You could stay here for the location — just the location. That’s the reason I stayed here for ~2 years. But you would regret it because of the hassle of dealing with the Leasing Staff including
— lost packages from Amazon. They mandatorily collect it for you
— not servicing the outside lightings for our building for 3 months
— lying about the availability of parking garages
— charging us a $ 100 fee for a $ 0.05 discrepancy (basically a typo) in our rent payment
— not being there in the Leasing Office 3 times, before blaming me for not showing up
I would post more but I’m left apartment-​less for the next month due to their negligence.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from Onyx unless the Leasing staff give you at least a $ 300 bargain in rent compared with other nearby apartments. Will add more details soon.

I lived here in 2012. Overall experience was great.
Here’s detailed breakdown
Location: Excellent
Its right opposite to Microsoft buildings, public bus stop at the front gate, and 2 minute driveway to 520 freeway. Only negative is, no grocery stores/​restaurants in 1 – 2 mile distance
Leasing Office/​Staff: Excellent
Leasing office is right in middle of the community apartments. Staff members are polite & very helpful.
Community: Good
24×7 decent size gym, swimming pool (non-​heated), Tennis court (but one need to bring own tennis equipment), (really)small garden for kids. Community is well maintained & cleaned very frequently. Other than maintenance men’s loud lawn mower, neighborhood is quite.
Apartments: Good
Apartments are well maintained with large patio, in-​unit washer/​dryer, large closets (my 1 BHK had 4 closets !). No mold/​Insulation/​Bed bugs problems, that I know of.
One negative is, Due to wooden flooring system, one can hear the footsteps, if residents living one level above are rough.
Parking: Not Good
Covered parking but space is compact than usual.
Service: Excellent
They have decent online portal where one can track service requests. Response time is very good. I had few problems when I moved in, all were resolved within 2 days.
Rent: Expensive
Their offerings are usually on higher side of current market rates. They do have referral programs. So Make most of it. Security deposit is low. And move-​out charges are reasonable.
Utilities: Very Expensive
Shared utility bills (sewage, garbage) are very high, Check with current residents before moving in, to save from after-​shocks :)
If price is not of much concern, this is very good community

Its pretty awesome for having hott chicks that work there and the pool is really nice with it being about 90 °F. Better than any other place I’ve been at in Redmond. Probably the best rent for the quality
