Kathy’s Critters specializes in live animal educational presentations for schools, birthday parties, summer camps, scouts, and special events.

We bring our «misunderstood» menagerie to your location. Our critters include reptiles (snakes, lizards turtles/​tortoises etc.), amphibians (frogs, toads, newts and salamanders), arthropods (insects, arachnids — millipedes, centipedes etc.).

History

Established in 1994.

Kathy Burkholder started Kathy’s Critters while working at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County where she was the Insect Zoo Technician («Zookeeper»). While performing some Insect Zoo Outreach programs at schools, teachers asked her if she knew anyone who did the «same thing» with Reptiles. As she was already an avid reptile lover with some of her own reptiles, «Kathy’s Critters» was born. The only original advertising was by word of mouth. Kathy also taught nature classes for the City of Manhattan Beach and taught the very popular «Jr. Bug Bunch».

Kathy’s Critters continues, bringing fun and excitement to parties, schools, scouts and events.

Kathy’s Critters is a fun and educational live animal program that travels throughout the Greater Los Angeles area presenting our exciting but misunderstood animals to schools, parties, events, carnivals/​fairs, scouts and more. Our misunderstood menagerie includes reptiles, amphibians and arthropods.

Kathy Burkholder is a former Insect Zoo Technician («zookeeper») at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and has extensive experience in bug and reptile «wrangling».

Kathy’s Critters has been going strong now for 20 years and Kathy has Introduced her animals to hundreds of thousands of children and adults of all ages. Audiences young and old are thrilled and delighted meeting these critters up close and Kathy still loves seeing their looks of amazement as they shake hands with a tarantula or wears a Medusa-​head of snakes.
