I hired SGL to demo a small lawn /​surrounding shrubs and to install a rock patio /​succulent & drought friendly plants with sprinkler to drip irrigation. SGL also installed a vegetable box and some trees.
With any type of construction or landscaping, things can (and usually do) go wrong– it’s how you deal with the issues that counts. This is where SGL shines. Ryan made every effort, including making several trips after the completion of the job to fix a few things, to make sure I was happy. That I appreciate.
They also completed the job (basically) on schedule– which was also much appreciated given my past experiences in this area.
The only reason I gave 4 stars vs 5 is becausE their markups on some items are high. I would’ve liked the option of purchasing them myself to save money given that the estimate and cost of the job was well over what I told Melissa I wanted to spend.
This is a family owned business which I appreciate, and Melissa and Ryan (owners) are good people. They did a solid job. The best part of their service is that they care about satisfying the customer.

An all around excellent product. From concept to completion, I had the support of the entire team. I would highly recommend.

We had Solid Ground come out and redo our front yard and the side of our house. We wanted plants that were drought tolerant and plants the had a great fragrance. Melissa was very helpful when suggesting plants that would work for our needs. She suggested plants that I thought I would like, she brought samples by and explained how they would work in our yard. She explained how some of the plants that I wanted would draw bees and with a new baby I definitely didn’t want that.
Our yard has never looked better; we love all the fragrance that flows through our windows in the evening.

Stay clear of Melissa and the company’s bs. Bait and switch 100% worst customer service can’t believe they are still in business. Probably not for to much longer. Terrible gardening and maintenance service. I would give zero stars if Unilocal had zero. Don’t use.

Was hopeful this company would be able to do my landscape even after reading some of the poor reviews. Melissa did call me back and set up an appointment within a few days. I met with her and she had some good ideas. In the end, she kept saying she would have an estimate for me and after weeks later, still have not received anything. I have met with a few other landscaping companies and they have been much more reliable.

Melissa was very friendly, responsive and knowledgeable. She had a crew out to our house and working the next day. Solid Ground did a great job transforming our planters at a very reasonable price. Happy to refer them to anyone for landscaping needs!

Never experienced anything like this. I am positive person and wouldn’t say anything negative if I can eat it. This company does not deserve in business! and the person I talked to was Melissa, I can’t find a work to describe her. First of all, they don’t always have a person to answer their phones. And when Melissa answered, all she can say is «I can’t talk now, call you back». And I didn’t get a call after hours. I believe I am not the only one experienced it. I should just ignored her when she finally called. Why would I still want to give her a chance, but I am too nice a person. When you finally talked to her, I am a new house owner and want to get my front yard look really good in our community so I asked quite a few questions. I am new for this and just a little curious about everything, but she sounds a little annoyed over the phone, make me feel she does not really need my business. Obviously that’s how they treated other customers that I can see from other reviewers. She couldn’t wait to get me off the phone, but she did say she can come over to look at my place. I am a little hesitated, because I don’t know if I trusted her yet. Anyway, I should blame myself on this and now I am eating the consequences! I gave her my address and she told me a time she would be available to come over. Surprise surpirse no one showed up at the time we agreed, so I called her but it went straight to her voice mail. Fine, I gave up at that point, I don’t need to give her my business and I can just walked away. However, it’s not the worst, she showed up at a later time without letting me know knowing I am not home, but she still went ahead check on my property. Thank God I locked my door, but she went to my back yard even I told her I only want her to evaluate my front yard, I don’t know why the XXX she went to my back yard. I left my dog in the back yard when I am not home, I guess she didn’t know that and left my back yard door unlocked. So my dog ran away after she left! Can anyone tell me what to do not? I don’t want anything to do with Melissa and this company, It cost me too much before we even get started, now I can just beg you please please please do not visit my property unwanted anymore! Please think carefully before calling this one, I regret it so much at this moment. I am really concerned.
And of course they are going to decline everything. Well what choice do I have? And yes reviewers please read all her responses, she never admit anything in all the other compalints, all she can do is decline decline and decline. Oh, one more update, I just found out one of their good reviewers is actually work for them. I don’t want to say who that is, but the one posted the most photos. I feel bad saying this but they start make me a little nervous by sending someone messaging me with nonsense. I just can’t trust this company at all. I can deal with whoever come talk to me regarding this because I have evidence, but just don’t want talk to you again or anyone from your company. I don’t want you to come to my house.

Thank you Melissa! I called on a Thursday to see if they could do a couple pots of succulents by our front door. By Friday the estimate was done and by Monday morning the pots were finished. Perfect job!

I recently decided to upgrade the landscaping around my house. I had originally decided to do the work on my own, but when it came to repairing an existing sprinkler system, I lacked the neccessary skills, so I called in Solid Ground Landscaping.
After coming to my home and talking about my project for a bit, Ryan explained how he could help me not only with the repair I needed, but with my overall plan. He outlined what he would do and offered me an affordable price. It was a no brainer… I hired him on the spot.
It’s been a couple months since SGL completed the work and it still looks excellent. I’m very happy with the work they did. I’d be giving them five stars, but I had some problems communicating with them after my initial contact. That said, once we started the job, and since the job was completed, they have maintained above average communications.
I will be hiring SGL for another project in the next couple of weeks and expect an excellent job again. If everything goes as I expect it will, I’ll be updating my review and giving them the five star rating they deserve.

Hate to piggyback on previous comments, but looks like a lot of customers have the same bad experience.

Frankly, a small company with good intentions. They bite off more than they can chew and are more ambitious than realistic. They seem nice and charming when you first meet them (and that’s how they end up getting the job!), but will be quick to snap. When you point out something’s going wrong, they’ll flip the blame on anyone. Just look at the owner’s defensive (and frankly RUDE) comments on most of these reviews!
Save your money. Save a headache. Pass on this landscaping company
PS. Clearly, the user named «Mimi S.» is the owner. Uploaded pictures and left fake, positive comments on their own Unilocal page. Who does that?

Solid Ground Landscaping did an excellent job in transforming our dry dead backyard into a lush green landscape with sod, planted trees, and vegetable gardens. Solid Ground Landscaping is a family run business which is nice, because you get direct access to the owners Ryan and Melissa. Melissa did a fantastic job of listening to our ideas and adding in her own suggestions to bring our landscaping plan together into a final product that we love. Their work crew was efficient and professional. We used to avoid our backyard, now we play as a family in the yard and host friends and family. We recommend Solid Ground Landscaping.

We found SGL via Unilocal and we couldn’t be happier. They totally changed the look of our back and front yard giving us our desired curb appeal. They worked with us on price and are super friendly. We have since decided to have them continue with our maintenance plan. We totally recommend their services and look forward to continuing to work with them.

I used SGL landscaping maintenance at my residence for almost a year. I hate to write this because they are nice people but they were pretty inconsistent with quality of service and/​or even showing up on my scheduled service days most of the time. I give them 3 stars because they are inexpensive, however it is still not worth the headache of having to constantly follow-​up on them showing up or reminding them to do the complete service.

I left the gate open when you were scheduled to come service my yard HOWEVER you wouldn’t show up on the scheduled date. I cannot leave my yard unlocked all week for you to have access when you finally decide to show up. Please stop harassing me to change my Unilocal review or I will contact Unilocal for further action.

Nice people with good intentions but they are so inconsistent and flaky. One visit my yard looks amazing, the next it looks like my kids mowed the grass. They don’t show up as scheduled, holiday week or not. Took months for me to get a landscaping proposal. I’ve discontinued service with them because I don’t have time to constantly follow up with them and ask them why they didn’t show up when they were supposed to and I hate not being able to count on a consistent level of service.

I needed landscaping and masonry work done. Based on their positive YWLP reviews, I called Solid Ground Landscaping. On Wed morning I spoke to Melissa who indicated that she was in the car and would call me back in 30 minutes. I didn’t hear back that day so I called again the next day and left a message with my phone number. It’s been 10 days and I have not received a return phone call. I could call a third time but don’t think I should have to when trying to give a business work. Besides, if they are this unresponsive before they get the job, what could I expect of their responsiveness during the job? It’s a shame as I was looking forward to seeing their work. If they were not taking on any additional work, she should have let me know that they were too busy.

I am very glad to have met Mellisa & ryan. They are good people that do great work! I look forward to working with them in the near future on different projects.

I’m thoroughly delighted now that they are working for me. The dedication and responsibility to doing a good job has redeemed them. and I must confess, I am VERY particular. I’ve had numerous gardeners with whom I’ve been disappointed. Paying a lot of money does nnot assure one of excellence.
I gave them a low mark originally, I was initially upset when the gardeners did not show up the day they were assigned. It was a big mix up. Now I could not be happier.
The guys are very nice and seem to really want to do a great job.

As with many homes in the South Bay, there isn’t a tremendous amount of room… some how, some way, SGL was able to turn our dirt lot filled with overgrown trees, shrubs & brick walls into an entire outdoor experience with beautiful grass, trees, hard scape, and an open-​functional layout.
We really appreciated the hands-​on approach they have to designing an area; They made several trips to view, discuss, measure, talk options and modifications to exactly what we were looking for. SGL made sure to meet, and even exceed our wants.
The owners Melissa & Ryan were in constant communication with us throughout the entire process and completed the project on time and right on budget. I have nothing but good things to say and would use him again in a heartbeat.
Furthermore, SGL continues to provide us service, coming by and checking on the yard, making sure everything is perfect and making sure all of our questions are answered. They instructed us on setting up our watering system, explained how and when the plants will grow, how to care for them, and are ALWAYS available when we have (yet another) question about anything. We feel very equipped to manage our backyard — which is excellent as we have a terrible history of basically straight up killing plants due to cluelessness. (No green thumbs in this house!!)
We HIGHLY recommend SGL for a landscape renovation and any basic landscape needs!
