Atherton Dry Cleaning & Quality Alterations

This is the best cleaners I have ever used in the Bay Area. The owners go out of their way to provide superior customer service and are always in a good mood and very friendly. Service is excellent and they are highly reliable.
I have never been the only guest in their store no matter what day and time as the place is very popular due to their reputation in the area, and it is well deserved.
While there are other cleaners closer to where I live, I continue to go to Atherton Cleaners as they are simply the best in the area. I have also completed some alterations here which have always been very professional.

I bought some thai wrap pants that I needed to get hemmed.
This dry cleaner has a change room and a little raised platform specifically for preparing alterations. This makes prepping alterations a comfortable experience.
Atherton Dry Cleaning hadn’t worked on this kind of pants before, so they did a mock-​up to practice on before working on my pants.
In addition to doing the hemming I asked for, they pressed and hung my pants for free.
Everyone was very friendly and easy to work with.
I have more pants I need hemmed, and I will definitely take them to Atherton Dry Cleaning to get them done.
Just FYI: They do not accept American Express. Only Visa, Mastercard and cash.

This place made my custom back panel corset piece for my wedding dress. It looks amazing and was definitely affordable. They also cleaned and pressed my dress before returning it to me.
Don’t expect miracles quickly! She had my dress for about a month and a half. But I was actually happy about that. I didn’t have to store it at my house and risk my fiancé sneaking a peak. But if I had asked for it to be completed sooner, I’m sure she could have.
I love this place and will definitely return with future cleaning or alterations needs.

Such a friendly mom and pop dry cleaning spot! I don’t even live nor work that close to this location, but I’d definitely go out of my way to come here for service. Their turnaround is quick ~4 days, and prices are very reasonable.

They are the best by far, they are like family, once you go here you will understand. They alway welcome with warm recognition and will do anything they can to help you out. Clothes always come out great as well. Does not get better.

I had some last minute alterations to get done for a bridesmaid dress. After every other alterations shop turned me away due to the time constraint and Labor Day weekend, Atherton Cleaners didn’t bat an eye. I took the dress in on a Friday, and picked it up 5 days later on Wednesday. She brought the waist of the dress in about 3 inches, and it looks so natural I can’t tell how she actually did it. All I know is that the dress fits perfectly now, and they did it in less than a week. I will definitely be getting clothing altered and cleaned here from now on.

Sweetest people ever. They don’t over-​charge (which is a godsend for women’s clothing) and they are always so sunny and polite. They’ve never lost anything and they always do a great job. I’ve never needed the seamstress but the dry-​cleaning/​customer service are great. It’s a good one!

I was really disappointed with their quality of work because all of their reviews said they were great. Took over a week to dry clean our clothes and they came out dirty (my husband’s white shirts still have stains on them) and missing buttons. Also, the woman working the front desk could not even find our clothes initially, she kept going back and forth to the computer to check for about 5−10min.

I have been going to Atherton Cleaners since 2010 and have been impressed with all aspects of their family owned business. The cleaning is exceptional, from silk blouses to large household item, everything comes out perfectly. I’ve even had them clean antique needlework and they did a remarkable job. My husband’s shirts are always perfectly cleaned, lightly starched and pressed. What’s more, they seem to stay looking crisp longer than any other cleaners. The alterations are amazing. I have also been very impressed with the spectacular job they do in getting stains out. I bring items in after I’ve tried to remove the stain (which I know isn’t smart) but they have been successful again and again making clothes look good as new. The prices are reasonable, the cleaning superb, and the atmosphere welcoming. They simply are the best!

The couple that owns this business do an excellent job at customer service. They are extremely polite and courteous every time my wife and I go there. I’ve never had an issue with their work, and they always go the extra mile if spots and stains prove to be stubborn. I highly recommend them!

I chose Atherton Cleaners to alter and dry clean my pre-​worn wedding dress based on the many positive Unilocal reviews.
I cannot recommend their services because to take in the dress (only alternation) and dry clean it took over two months and the results are lackluster at best.
I took my dress into the shop more than two months in advance of my wedding. They said taking it in on the sides should be no problem and I was quoted at $ 250 when I asked what they would charge. However they said they would call once they confirmed the level of complexity. They never called. They never called when the alterations were complete. I only found out because *I* remembered and called. Here, it had been done for weeks.
I received a fitting and they proceeded to tell me it would take one month more to clean the dress. There was some staining around the hem and I wanted to be sure it was clean for the wedding so I said yes. They told me it would be done on July 15, only 2 weeks before my wedding. I asked if they could do it sooner and they said no. But based on the positive reviews I decided to stick with Atherton Cleaners.
On July 15^th I arrived to pick up my dress. Only it wasn’t there. It wasn’t done. They told me they would call me later to tell me when it would be done. That night I received a voicemail that the dress would not be done until 1 week before the wedding! I couldn’t wait any longer. I firmly asked them to have it ready on Saturday, 3 days later.
I picked up the dress only to find their efforts in dry cleaning the dress had no effect. The dress was still dirty. They told me they tried to dry clean it twice. I don’t think this is accurate. The hem stains and yellowing on the underskirt were all present. I know dry cleaning doesn’t remove every stain. However, I took the dress home and gently hand-​laundered it myself. All of the stains lifted easily.
They ended up charging me $ 250 for alterations and $ 150 to dry clean the dress. For that amount of money I would have expected I didn’t have to spend an hour clipping tiny threads off my dress from their «alterations» or hours hand-​washing a garment they supposedly cleaned twice.
Had they given me the dress on their schedule I would have been so stressed trying to get it actually clean before the wedding.
Skip them and find a cleaner that does better work and sticks to their own schedule.

My sister-​in-​law recommended us this place and we’ve been going to them for 4 years now. She has since moved to another town but we became a fan in her place. Here are the things we like about Atherton Dry Cleaning:
1. They have always been on time with us.
2. Never had any mishap with our clothes.
3. Next door to a Safeway, where I can combine with in a trip.
4. The owners have very good sense of humor in our brief conversations.
5. Pricing has been affordable so far.
Why not 5 stars? I’d like to give them 4.5 but there’s no such option. The 0.5 star minus is because sometimes the wait can be a little long.

I’ve been coming to Atherton Cleaners since 2011. Stanley and Angela are a pleasure to work with. Always positive and uplifting. Stanley gives me a lot of fatherly advice and looks out for me.
I drop off 10 – 20 shirts, a few suits, and jackets every few weeks and their service is top notch. Occasionally buttons fall off, just normal wear and tear. They have no problem helping me get buttons sown on the spot at no charge. One year I got fat and split my pants in an embarrassing spot. I needed to have my pants let out and fixed. No shaming, just asked me when do I need it by. Once I lost the winter fat, they helped take in my pants.
What really made me a customer for life was their attention to detail and memory. I had left a shirt there and did not even realize it. A month later I stopped in to drop off and right away a light bulb popped up, and they brought out my shirt telling me I forgot it last time. Seriously who can remember who a white shirt might belong to. Apparently Angela.
Their attention to detail, and warm friendly atmosphere keep me coming back even though I’ve moved 40 miles away. You won’t find a better friendly neighborhood dry cleaner for an affordable price who truly care about their customers and always strive to do the right thing with a smile.

I live in Chicago, but got married in Woodside just a couple of weeks ago. I had to fold my (HUGE) wedding dress in half in the garment bag and pack it in a large suitcase to get it out to California. It had already been cleaned and pressed, at great expense, in Chicago, but I knew it probably needed a final pressing before I walked down the aisle. My fiancée and I had spent plenty on the wedding and were so tired of getting charged big bucks for every little thing – but I found Atherton Dry Cleaning on Unilocal and they charged me a minimal fee to simply do a quick pressing of the top of the dress – that’s all it needed. I was so grateful for their honesty and kindness that I paid them double what they asked. And they are so nice! Thank you for your smiling faces.

The service and the quality of work is a five star in my book. I took two suit pants in for alteration and the nice lady took measurements and give me a time frame when they will be done. I came the week after (since I was not in a rush) and the pants were done. They fit like a glove! No mistakes, no problems, and great price. I will come back for dry cleaning my suits. Since they did a great job with alterations to my suit pants, I can trust them for dry cleaning.
Great service and an excellent job and great business hours as well. You will not be disappointed.

This dry cleaner is closest to my house and the prices are reasonable. I have been coming here for years, both for my dry cleaning and alterations.
I am petite so all of my pants have to be shortened. They always do an awesome job never missing a single detail. The owners are very kind and it’s nice that they know me now.
I would recommend them for both alterations and dry cleaning as they do a wonderful job at both.
