Stephanie Kolkka

In opening Brick Monkey, Stephanie satisfied a long-​time desire to return to retail and create a fun, inspiring store with a unique personality offering great style at sensible price points.

Furthermore, she remains deeply involved with the operation of Kolkka Furniture, a custom design and furniture manufacturing business that she started with her husband John in 1985. Kolkka Furniture, located in Napa Valley California, has established a national reputation for design, custom manufacturing capabilities and excellent customer service.

Gina Nicolo

Gina began working at Kolkka Furniture in 2008 and within 1 year became the Office Manager. «Working with Stephanie changed my life. She was and still is such an inspiration to me. Through her mentoring I realized that I too wanted to be an entrepreneur.»

She invested and become a partner at Brick Monkey in 2013 and together they expanded the brand by opening Brick Monkey Squared.

We had been looking for a glass table for a long time and specifically a table made in the U.S.A. Brick Monkey’s glass Parsons table fit the bill, so we finally made the splurge 5 years ago! It is warm industrial chic! The only thing I did not realize was that liquids could come between the table and base and be unremoveable, so my child’s milk gradually built up in-​between over 4 years. I called up Stephanie and I was really surprised to hear that they would refinish the table for free, and I all needed to pay for was for pick-​up and delivery. They delivered the refinished table yesterday and helped modify it, so I could clean in-​between if necessary. We are ecstatic that we get our beautiful table back!

Really wanted to give this store 5 stars. The 1st time i was in there, the merch was absolutely beautiful. The young lady there on Sunday afternoon was adorable and friendly and seemed reliable. However, the lack of customer service follow up makes me want to visit the Costco website. Really! That day i was in the young lady took all my info of what i needed. I did tell her i was not in a hurry… but here we are a month later and i have not heard from Brass Monkey. Sent them an email last week, still no response. Regardless of my request, whether or not it was doable? Budget unreasonable? They should have contacted me. I’m done!

I love their furniture and items. Everything I have bought from them I have LOVED and it has mostly been on sale so they aren’t making a ton of $$ on me. I bought a large print on sale, under $ 500 years ago and I get a ton of compliments on it. The staff has always been lovely to me, but I get, from some of the negative reviews, that they should always greet customers or apologize if they haven’t said hello. That said, that hasn’t been my experience there. I think everyone who works there is a designer not a «salesperson» so they do multiple things and are open everyday. I have to stop myself from going in their because I know I will get sucked into wanting to throwing out everything in my house and redo every room.

Brick Monkey is THE «go-​to» home furnishings store for Designers and their clients. I can say that with total confidence! Kolkka Furniture, as represented there, is the highest quality in custom iron design. In working with Stephanie for more than 25 years, I have always been amazed with Kolkka’s innovative finish selections and quality of construction — our Clients have only been very pleased with every delivery! Brick Monkey represents other manufacturers as well — Burton James Upholstery among them — another quality product, made in California. The store is both elegant and stylish, and fun to shop for accessories, too!

I am looking for a few new furniture pieces and saw Brick Monkey after breakfast across the road at Pamplemousse and popped in with my husband and daughter because it looked right up my alley. Other than explaining that her only utterance was to her dog that she’d just stepped on, the sales associate said nothing to us. Neither did her colleague who joined her for a chat moments later.
I loved the large round teal reading chair and the nested glass tables. And the gold and glass coffee table. If they’d bothered to speak to us, they’d know that. Instead, we will take our custom elsewhere.

I can’t not say enough amazing things about Brick Monkey! I feel so fortunate to have such a stylish treasure in Redwood City. From art, to furniture there is always something inspiring. My home is decorated in Brick Monkey and I can’t wait to get home to just enjoy. My house finally feels like a home. I’ve also brought clients to share my my favorite shop and always do so confidently. All the ladies that are there are beyond talented and so willing to help you create the home of your dreams, regardless of how big or small your project may be. There is no one else I would turn my projects over too. Again I feel like we have a treasure right here in Redwood City. A must go to in Redwood City.

This store is so beautiful and truly inspiring but not only for it’s merchandise offered. The sales help and owner, Stephanie truly went above and beyond just great customer service. Such a lovely atmosphere, inspiration and all with a warm feeling just walking in the front door. A rare find and must go to.
I purchased a beautiful Kolkka coffee table for my home and the design and quality of the material and awesome craftsmanship make this purchase one that I will have for many years to come. It’s design is timeless and will go with my current décor and any future changes I might make.
It is rare that the store owner is so hands on, personable and helpful. I definitely am a customer for life.

Cool store to look around and aspire to classy living. Luckily (?) there are also a lot of items in anyone’s price range, from a selection of greeting cards to rolls of cloth cocktail napkins and other bits of unique and useful home décor.

Great shopping, disappointing «purchasing». My mother and her friend purchased some furniture including a $ 400 lamp, when it was delivered it was not the same lamp, The store tried to insist that it was the lamp she purchased, and they do not offer refunds. After 2 visits and a phone conversation, she was eventually offered a store credit since the lamp she wanted is no longer in the store. When she actually returned the lamp, the woman who helped her at the counter was very rude and basically told her she didn’t want to talk to about this topic anymore. One step forward and two steps back in the area of customer service — they made an effort to resolve it, but the ending impression left a bitter aftertaste. Shop with caution, and I would take a picture of what you are purchasing before leaving the store.

We stopped in here looking for a very specifically sized coffee table and discovered they make beautiful custom furniture (there are examples of it throughout the store). After talking through the options with Barry (who was very accommodating and helpful), we found just the right match. The experience was very easygoing and enjoyable. The table, while pricey, is what I would expect for a custom piece of this size and quality.
I will update the review when the table arrives in 4 weeks.

We know a store is going to have lots of cool stuff to choose from when the first thing you see as you walk in the door is a flying pig. ;)
This is an awesome little boutique in old-​town Redwood City. They have unique and lovely goodies, including mirrors, jewelry, decorative pieces, furniture, soaps, candles, and I’m sure I’ve missed a few other things.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Can’t wait to go back — I want the flying pig!

Brick Monkey is an amazing and tasteful home furnishing and gift store. No matter your price range you can always find something! There is a great array of furniture, decorative items, tableware, pillows, soaps, candles, seasonal items, etc. I would highly recommend swinging by Brick Monkey and at least popping in and taking a look around.
Additionally, partners and staff are outstanding. Very friendly and welcoming. I wish there were more stores in Redwood City that were like Brick Monkey. I cannot wait to have another home for Barry, Stephanie, and others to decorate and/​or inspire me!

Love this place! I’m shocked it’s not here yet on Unilocal! I recieved a gorgeous silver serving tray and fleur knife set as a gift and was intrigued to find out more about this «brick monkey» hotspot! WOW! I had no idea what a treat I was in for! The ladies are so welcoming and great with suggestions! The store is of course, decorating to the nines… This is one of my definate «TO GO» spots for a creative, thoughtful, unique –one of a kind gift! Great for those on your list that you have NO IDEA what to get them! Beautiful furniture, housewares, clever & fun yet classy concept behind the whole place! Thanks Brick Monkey, I needed a place like you on the Peninsula!
