Econo Tree Service

Please never use this company, terrible communication skills. If your not with them when they do the work and babysit they will screw it up. They cut a branch off a tree that broke and was almost off and cleared the debris which probably took about an hour. Charged $ 960.00. They were supposed to cut a large branch and clear the debris for that, which would be fair for that amount of money, a bunch of thieves. You want a good tree service use Mcclenehan who I usually use, but tried to get it done sooner for my renter. Bunch of scum bags and thieves.

While this company came highly recommended and responded quickly when needed to cut down a dying tree, their expertise left a lot to be desired. From my own and other neighbors observations, their method of getting heavy sections of large, 1 ft. in diameter to the ground was fairly reckless — i.e. dropping them vertically to the street below, even though they were roped up and could have been safely lowered.
In addition, one of these large branches landed vertically on our 40 year old Juniper shearing off the top and back of the plant. Despite numerous attempts to have someone out to look at it and sending photos in, they refuse to do anything to consider compensation for the destruction of our very old plant.
Being in the landscaping business myself, I would have done everything possible to compensate this loss to the homeowner. As a result of their poor customer service, I will be dissuading others to use this company for any tree work.

I’ve hired them twice.
The first time as referenced by my gardener to deal with a fallen tree in my back yard. They came quickly and were able to schedule soon even with there being lots of storm damage to deal with. They did a good job then and gave me advice regarding the other large trees on the property.
Following up a couple of years later, they were quick and clean in taking care of trimming the four trees in my yard. I would use this team again.

dangerous! they took down an oak tree today, then told me they couldn’t grind the stump because there were wires running beneath it. i asked if it were a dangerous situation, and they answered all they knew was that they couldn’t grind the stump. i asked for a call from a managing foreman about how dangerous the situation was. never heard from any supervising contractor, but did hear later from an office worker that the tree men were feeling sparks beneath their feet. not sure that they broke the wires removing the lights from the tree, but i am sure they should have turned off (or advised me to turn off) the landscape circuit breakers immediately. zero concern for the safety of my family; all they seemed to care about was getting a check and getting out.

I had a large tree on my property that needed removal. I got a few quotes from other arborists in the area and Econo Tree Service was quite competitive. The workers showed up on the day of the removal and wasted no time getting to work. I was very impressed by the skill of the worker in the tree who was moving around the upper branches and tying them off to avoid a lot of wires that the tree entangled. And they were all finished earlier than I expected by 4pm. Absolutely no damages and the neighbors, whose property the tree also overhung, were pleased too. I would use them again.

They did a great job trimming my Phoenix palm tree. They followed exactly my instructions on trimming all the dried out fronds and they were kind enough to cut out a hole on the side, not the trunk, so that the Owls, that were living in the tree, would return to their new home. Thanks guys.

They cut down two 70′ dead Douglas fir trees and removed the stumps. The work was done on schedule and the clean up was excellent. While they were here we asked that three other large trees be pruned. The did this work right away. I would say their price is in the middle. Would use them again.

We contacted Econo Tree to consult on the removal of a large Camphor tree, an additional stump removal, and the pruning of a large Privet. Henry arrived on time to give a very reasonable estimate, and he also provided more economical options to the services (no upselling). We made an appointment for the following week, they arrived on time with an adequate crew and completed the tree removal and pruning quickly; I also asked for another tree to be pruned, the crew provided a good price, and they did that as well. Clean up was thorough and the team was very positive and pleasant. The second crew (for stump removal) arrived shortly after and even set up good window protection to avoid damaging the windows. We are very happy with their services and would contact them again, and recommend them without hesitation.

They’re working in my neighborhood right now, and the driver has blown through the intersection here totally disregarding the stop signs. Really unsafe in a residential area with narrow streets. Not to mention, stopping at stop signs is the law. This guy didn’t even touch his brakes.

Econo Tree was contracted by RWC to remove a tree on our property. They did an excellent job removing a very tall tree with many branches. They worked efficiently as a team (at least 5 or 6 men were on the team). They also managed traffic on our busy street. I especially appreciated that they asked my opinion about a number of questions that came up. When the work was done, they did a fabulous job of cleaning up the job site.

Quite disappointing. Not as thorough as other tree services I have used and somewhat more expensive.

Called and got a prompt response to evaluating my trees and getting them pruned. Trees have bark peeling and fruit damage last year and branches on my Apricot tree are dying. Was told that it needed pruning/​shaping and probably fertilization. I authorized work which was done promptly and neatly. But when the fruit and leaves started coming out two large branches started dying. Called and set a time 11:00 am for follow up no one showed. checked my email no phone call and found out that they had a high wind damage emergency call to take care of. OK rescheduled for following week, no show, don’t answer emails (2 sent). After spending $ 600 all I wanted was someone to tell me if my trees are diseased and what do I need to do. My apricot production is ¹⁄₅^th of the production from last year without pruning or fertilization. Not happy took proactive approach and feel I got ripped off. I wish I had seen the reviews before hand… probably would not have considered using them.

I ordered a cord of wood from them a couple weeks ago. I specifically asked if the wood had been ages 2 years or more. «Yes». I wasn’t. We now have a whole cord of wood that is still relatively green and is very difficult to burn. I will not order wood from them again

The men had a huge job cutting the trees and we appreciate that however the garden beneath them was NOT protected (as promised it would be by the estimator, John) and many of my plantings were crushed, broken and some squashed to death. The cleanup was NOT complete. We filled a huge green bin with twigs, branches, chunks of a palm tree and leaves. Still cleaning up… a week later…

I got 4 bids to take down a massive dead Oak tree in my backyard, they were not the cheapest, just in the middle range. I chose Econo because Jon who gave me the bid was very friendly and personable. It just felt right in comparison to the other bids I got. (including one who didn’t give me a written bid and told me it was sudden oak death, which the other three told me it wasn’t) It was a two day job, three men working all day. This was not an easy job as I have limited access to the tree which was in my backyard. There were large branches which hung over into my neighbors yard and they worked very carefully to not damage any property on their side and mine too. The guys were amazing in the whole process, very professional. They even cut and stacked the amount of wood I wanted to keep and literally carried the larger pieces I didn’t want on their shoulders out to the truck. It was a hard back breaking job and dangerous as the tree was very dry. Martin who was the lead worker was very pleasant and they left the yard spotless when they were done. It wasn’t the cheapest bid but I felt sometimes you get what you pay for and they earned every penny for this particular job. Would definitely use them again.

Even though I live only 15 minutes away from Redwood City in Newark, I was told by the woman that answered the phone that «we will not go over the bay». Apparently business is so good 15 minutes is too far for these guys to travel.

We had a very big dying tree between ours and our neighbor’s house in a narrow downslope area. Neighbor’s arborist wanted over 2k to take it down, and wanted us to deal with permits (NOTE to all RWC people– any tree removal here requires a permit). I called EconoTree and it couldn’t have been easier. They came out right away, their quote was $ 1200.00 total, and they took care of the entire permit process. Once we gave them the go ahead, they got it done within 2 weeks.
The day they cut, my husband and I were both at work. When we came home we had to remind ourselves that the tree got cut and we had to look for evidence that it happened. Other than the tree no longer being there, we couldn’t even tell that they had been out. Everything was cleaned so neatly. Our neighbor later told us that he had come by while Econo was out there and they they had everything covered, protected, etc. Said it really looked like a 1^st rate operation.
I’m not sure why the other rating only gave them 3 stars– maybe for the same reason I am only giving 4. They were great and I would definitely call them again, but since I’ve never done this process before, I don’t know how to compare to others.
Bottom line– if you need a tree service, give them a call. They are worth trying out.

We had a pretty good experience with Econo Tree. Making an appointment for an estimate was easy and painless, and the arborist who came out was very professional and friendly. After we hired them to trim back the trees around our house, the work crew was efficient and cleaned up all the mess. (An added bonus: the kids loved watching the crew scale the trees and hack away with chainsaws.) Everything looked great when they left, and now we can stop worrying about our trees falling on our house, cars, children, etc. Did I mention that it cost $ 700 less than the estimate given by Mitchell Tree Service?
