Janet R Steele, Licensed Marrage and Family Therapist

) is the second therapist I have ever been to. I used to see one with my father in Minnesota a few years ago and that was for his sake.
Janet is a pleasant and warm person to be around and engage with. I went to see her to discuss my weight which I am insecure about. All I will say is that she became a little too emotional for my liking. Some of our therapy sessions almost seemed like argument sessions because I didn’t like the tone of voice she kept using towards me.
Her approach seemed almost sarcastic and insensitive towards my needs. I want help in overcoming my insecurity (with my weight) issues and she would state obvious things in a demeaning tone like, «Well maybe you should try eating less.» I would think, «Are you serious? Of course I know that. I’m not coming here and paying $ 100 a session for a diet/​health coach… I want to understand where my insecurities come from and get help with changing my belief system.» One time she brought her religion into our conversation and invited me to her Peninsula Covenant Church (I think that was the name). I declined because I’m agnostic.
The entire matter perturbed me and I found it unsettling as if she was becoming too familiar with me and I don’t pay people for friendship. Maybe this is her style. Maybe there are many people that enjoy it. This, however, has been my experience and after several sessions I have discontinued seeing her. On the upside, she did teach me where my feelings of inadequacy originate from.
