Jay’s And Sons Towing Service

This takes place 5 hours after being a victim of a hit-​and-​run in the middle of the night, where I could have been killed if I hadn’t been defensively driving. Followed by me being abandoned by the Redwood City PD, who did not send a towing truck for me, which the officer said he would, after which, I had my insurance send me Jay’s and Sons Towing Service. Initially, all was fine.
When my friend, her aunt, and I arrived at my street with the truck following us, the driver began to yell at us (I’m fuming angry just thinking about the fact that he yelled at them), expecting us to know that he could not drop off my unusable vehicle on an un-​level street. He then zoomed up the hill without saying where he was going, fearing that I would be a victim of a car theft, as well. This was at 4:30 in the morning. We were already tired, stressed out, and scared. I would later find out that I was in fact, injured from the accident, as well. The last thing any of us needed was more stress.
When I met him in the street and proposed a solution with parking in a lot at the bottom of the hill, the driver proceeded to yell at me for being indecisive, when that was the first and only solution I provided, since he implied by yelling at us that leaving it in my driveway was not an option. When I affirmed that he should use that lot, he zoomed back down the hill, with me and my friend left on the street in the rain.
He was condescending with me while taking my vehicle off of the back of his truck. I had never been in an accident before, nor required a tow truck, how should I know the procedures when they were never explained to me? Before we left for my home, he could have asked about my street, and explained some of the procedures/​what was happening, he did not. His off-​hand, callous remarks were what I received, instead. No sympathy whatsoever.
I never received an apology from him.
Shame on you. Never again.

Heres a local towing company that has definitely surpassed any customer service expectation that I have ever had. He has provided great service without expecting a whole lot. The towing industry needs more people like John– who are willing to solve our car «issues» and get us going!

These guys are great! Nice clean, newer trucks, careful with my vehicle. John was very friendly and helpful. I would call them again for any kind of towing services, for break-​downs or transport. Good pricing!

Disregard this review, posted in the wrong place, and Unilocal does not allow me to delete it. Charged $ 60 for a 6min drive. After his tow, the car alarm was disabled, and the computer had locked up the cars ignition. Now we are left with so much work and extra expense to fix a car that had worked perfectly before his tow.

I bought an old truck last night and before I knew it I was stalled with a dead battery. The next morning I called Jay’s Towing and John showed up in less than 15 minutes! He had my truck on his truck in a snap and we were on our way. From San Mateo to San Jose for $ 125! I couldn’t believe that low price.
I cannot recommend Jays Towing and John enough, he was fast, highly competent and truly professional. Use this company whenever you need roadside assistance and you won’t regret it.

I used Jay’s towing today and it was so reasonable. The wait time was very short. And Mike was so personable and people oriented that he made my day a little brighter riding with him. The company is run by 2 brothers who have taken over their father’s business. Obviously the father instilled courteousness, compassion and friendliness in his sons. Great job Mike!

My BMW broke down and I was trying to fix the problem before taking it to my mechanic. I couldn’t fix it and needed it to be towed. I called 4 different tow companies and all of them quoted me 150 – 180. I live in Palo Alto and I needed it to be towed to Fremont and it is 15 miles from my house to the mechanic shop. Anyways I thought I would try one more company which was Jays. I called spoke to John (very nice guy with great customer service) told him where I needed to go and he quoted me 120 $!!! I couldn’t believe the deal he gave me! After work I came home called him up and he said no problem told me he would be here in 15 min 20 at the most!!! Today you don’t find people like John! Great guy very talkative and top it off great customer service! Thanks John for a great experience I will def be in contact with the company for all my towing needs!

Cheapest I found near redwood city, after I called numerous companies for almost an hour. Terrible experience, my car breaking down on highway 92. John, will make it a rememberable one.

Imagine getting a flat on skyline no spare tire because I have an electronic pump LOL and it’s 10 pm at night. My insurance contacted Jays Towing and at 1^st impressions the guy looked a a bit scary little did I know he was a big Teddy bear and made me feel comforted. Especially when he had to tow me all the way home to Boulder Creek!
He was respectful and I appreciate this company

Today my truck was towed out of a parking lot that it should not have been towed from. It’s always a crappy experience to have your vehicle towed — no matter what the reason. Rather than kick me while I was down, like most towing companies would, Jay’s (in particular John) was really apologetic that they had to tow the truck, allowed me to show up after business hours without additional cost, and even drove me to an ATM as they don’t take cash for payment.
It’s important that people remember not to kill the messenger in situations like these. The CHP sets the hourly rates for towing companies, not the companies themselves, so the people complaining about the extortionist rates should really be complaining to their local politician for change, if that’s what they want.
I’ll use Jay’s for all of my towing related services (voluntary tows, lock-​outs, etc.) from now on.

Jay was great. He arrived within 10 minutes of my call and took my car to a body shop that has turned out to be very nice to work with. Jay was friendly and helpful. He didn’t take advantage of me in a time of need when someone otherwise could have. I put a lot of trust in Jay, and he lived up to everything he told me. I’m thankful that I called Jay, and my overall experience far exceeded expectations.

I just called these guys for a tow, and they could not have been more knowledgeable, friendly, or reasonably priced. If I ever need another tow, I know who to call now. Thank you Jay’s and Sons!

There I was, stranded late on a Saturday night near the Stanford campus. I had waited and waited in the cold for State Farm to work with a service in Georgia to track down someone waaaaay back in the mid-​peninsula area to help me and my car taken 30 miles or so south. No luck for nearly two hours.
Then I finally got the call, where the operator said, «I have good news for you. I found someone very near to you who I trust, who sounds great, and is committed to help you. And they understand how long you’ve been waiting.»
Well, that «someone» was Mike from Jay & Son’s Towing Services in Redwood City. And the operator was right. Mike was there in 20 minutes (including the time it took him to wolf down his dinner), showed up with a great flatbed for towing my car, and 5 minutes after he arrived we were sailing down 280.
But that’s not the best part. Mike was the most committed person you could ever have to his goal, which as he said numerous times… to represent the family business well, and to help people. As he said, «Hey, if I didn’t like helping people, I wouldn’t be doing this…»
Mike got my car to the drop-​off point without a hitch, and then even went out of his way to deliver me to my home. Anyone who’s ever been stranded will tell you how much it means to have someone committed to actually *helping* you, and that’s what Mike did.
But one more thing: on the ride down the peninsula, there was really only one topic discussed — Jay, Mike’s father, and how much Mike appreciated and respected the life and later the business his father represented. Somewhere up there, there’s a proud dad looking down and seeing his legacy treated with respect and a great sense of commitment to keeping it going.
So if you want to find someone who has the right motivations and someone you can trust whenever you need roadside or towing services, call these guys. If there had been a 6^th star to give them, I would have done just that.

Well, I am not at all surprised to see the excellent reputation of this company. Half way to SF from SJ for Thanksgiving dinner, my Camry finally gave up the ghost and I was lucky enough to find a McDonald just off the freeway to pull it into. Family came to pick me up for dinner and I returned Friday to deal with getting it back 25mi. to SJ.
Turns out my AAA service is only good for 5mi. with each additional mile $ 10 … AAACK! So I looked up Redwood City based towing services and started making calls. The first place I called advertised «No one beats our prices or service», I was on hold for about 5min and when I did get the quote it was $ 260, so much for trying to get a better deal than AAA, another place just rang and rang …
.then my friend said «Hey,. call this one, Jay and Son’s, I’ve got a good feeling about this» so I did and his intuition was spot on because a real person, Mike, answered the phone right away, took my information, asked me what was wrong with the car and quoted me a full $ 100 less than the «Nobody beats our prices place» ! Jay and Sons Towing beat their price, answered the phone immediately and since we had traveled to a restaurant to look up companies and grab a bite, Mike actually showed up at the car just a minute after we did, less than ten minutes later!
I really think that if there had been something wrong with the car that he could of helped us with, that he would have done that rather than towing it. He is a very friendly, upfront personable gentleman and although it is a shame that the Camry finally took it”s last trip yesterday, being able to have such a good experience with Jay and Son’s Towing made the whole situation more like a well planned respectful funeral,(our little procession was my friend and I in front and Mike following with the Camry on his flatbed all the way back to SJ) — than a chaos ridden ordeal with one bad thing after another to remember.

Great service! We live in the hills and have a very tricky driveway winding through an uneven lot, with precarious drop-​offs. One absent-​minded morning without setting the parking brake meant only 3 tires resting on the driveway, with the fourth in the landlord’s chicken pen. Luckily there was a big post there that kept the car from going into a completely un-​salvageable location. I called Jay’s after reading reviews on Unilocal,just after they opened at 8AM. Despite being in a residential area that has horrible traffic at that time of the morning, a truck arrived well before 9 AM (though it took longer than the expected 20 minutes).
The driver was able to back down the ultra-​narrow driveway with no problems and hook up the rig to put our 3-​wheeled car back on all fours. He also drove it around for a couple minutes to feel if the front axle and tire were still in good shape, which they luckily were! The price was fair and I was able to get back to normal life before 10AM.
I’ll be taking the car to the shop for regular maintenance soon and will have the axle and tire looked at by a mechanic. If there is a problem, I’ll come back and edit this review to reflect that.
I will definitely use Jay’s again for a local vehicle emergency, although I hope I never have to!

Tldr; extortion artists and assholes
They towed my illegally parked car. I have to pay 100 dollars to get it «after hours» past 5pm. To top it off the guy who answered the phone told me he was «pretty sure is figure it out» when I told him I have to work during their business hours.

My car started shuddering like crazy on my way to a doctor’s appointment, and the check engine light lit up. I parked it, went to my appointment, and called for a tow truck right after my appointment was done. The tow truck was there right within the 15 – 20 minute window the driver told me.
The kicker is that, once the guy was there, the car started, the check engine light was off, and everything was fine! I was still super worried and I thought the problem would happen again. So the driver (I forgot his name, I was too worried when he arrived and introduced himself) offered to follow me with his tow truck as I drove around the block! I drove around for a few minutes, and the car was still fine.
I pulled over and asked him how much I owed him for coming out, and driving around with me. He refused to accept any money at all. He was just a genuinely good person, helping out someone who needed help.

This is a tale of the power of Unilocal to help you find good companies!
Last night my car broke down along el Camino around 9pm. I fired up Unilocal to see if there were any reviews on local towing services as I am brand new to the area and have no support system and know nothing about local businesses. Jays had a lot of good reviews so I went with them.
The truck arrived a little later than the 15 minutes originally stated, but not by too much. The driver, Jeff, was a genuinely nice guy and extremely helpful. He recommended a shop, offered to take me to my hotel to drop off my valuables (my move in date is next week so it is a hotel for now), and took me to a shop. Luckily there were mechanics in the shop and they were able to diagnose my problem immediately and it was relatively minor.
I can’t overstate how friendly, helpful, and great this guy was to me. He went out of his way to help me out and not once did he act like it he had something better to do although I am sure he would rather have been at home.
He did ask why I chose Jay’s over the other companies around the area and I told him they had a lot of great reviews on Unilocal.He was absolutely pleased by that and explained to me that he and his three brothers took over this business from their late father and strive to treat customers like they matter to them. It is pretty remarkable considering a towing company likely deals with a number of one-​off transactions and doesn’t need repeat business. I told him they do a good job of it and thanked him. I would recommend this to anyone needing a tow in the area, seriously great experience!
