I have been doing Tae Kwon Do with this institution for about 8 years now, and I earned my black belt about a year ago. Since day one back in 3rd grade, I have learnt so much about discipline, respect, a positive attitude, confidence, and community while remaining physically fit and learning how to defend myself. Back then, my parents had enrolled me in metroTKD classes just to see if i liked it as an extracurricular. I was extremely hesitant to try taekwondo, mostly out of fear, but I soon learned there was nothing to be scared of. I had no idea I would like it so much and stick with it to get to where I am today. The environment at our school is like a family, we are so closely knit and supportive of each other. The coach, Debra, is a 5th degree black belt with SO much experience. She has been teaching students TaeKwonDo for over 20 years, and is possibly the most dedicated, hard– working, and encouraging person I know. She helps each and every student on a personal basis and ensures that they are understanding the material while staying engaged. I can see that students really like our program because many start at a similar age and with similar hesitations as I had, and very few leave after they start. I have also made so many strong friendships with people A great thing about our school in specific is that we promote kids with higher belt levels when they EARN it. Many schools have their students recieving the black belt very soon, as early as 4 years into it. This leaves students extremely unprepared for competitions and tournaments, which occur in the later part of many students’ Tae Kwon Do careers. At metroTKD, Debra waits untill kids are fully prepared for each belt level and have mastered the material they are taught. I highly recommend this school to young kids, around the ages 6 – 10. Of course the school is open to ages 6 – 18, but starting at an early age is better so that you are able to stick with the sport and get to a higher level. Try metro taekwondo and I promise you won’t be dissapointed.

I have two sons who have been in Debra’s class for almost two years, and it has been a really great experience for them. I particularly love how, as the kids learn and grow, they are encouraged to help the younger kids. Not only are the kids learning TKD, but also how to be supportive of their classmates. It’s really wonderful to see their sense of accomplishment as they test for new belts. Highly recommended.

My son has been involved with Metro Tae Kwon Do for 3+ years now. Debra is a wonderful teacher. She is patient with the children and also challenges them to do their best. She knows when they are ready for the next promotional test. It is not about the color of the belt or stripe. I highly recommend Metro for your child if he/she wants to learn Tae Kwon Do. I love the artistry of TKD also.
