RecycleWorks -- A Program of San Mateo County

Thanks so much to Krista for all the help in trying to get some recycling bins out to the Venture Capital company I was temping for.
You would think in this day and age, that everyone would recycle, or that recycling bins would be set up at every company, but sadly it never seems to be the case. Almost every time I work as a temp in the VC or private equity arena, I find that there are hardly any recycling bins set up, and the ones that are, seem to be ignored, or people use them for trash… ARGH!
If I were in charge of this state, I swear I would make recycling MANDATORY. Come on Gavin Newsom, let’s step it up. You got people to open their eyes with plastic bags… what can we do about recycling, now?
Anyway, thanks a ton to Krista, for doing her best to try to help me get some bins set up at the company I was working for. It was suddenly my last day because I was offered a job at a different company and I really wanted to get it all set up before I left, so I was on the phone with Krista trying sooo hard to get this company some bins… unfortunately it was a Friday afternoon and too late for someone to come out, but she tried, and said she would send someone out the following week.
I really appreciate that a LOT! It’s thanks to people like Krista, who care about the environment, who really do make the world a nicer place to live in.

I dropped off 5 quarts of old paint this weekend from my parent’s garage. I still need to make another appointment to drop off the other toxic cleaning chemicals. They’ve just been sitting around for too long. The drop off process is a breeze: you drive to the designated area, the staff comes out to greet you and collect items from your trunk. They made you stay in your car for safety reasons. And off you go.
There are several people wearing white coats with googles and gloves testing all the items that was dropped off. Very very professional. It feels like a secret bio testing place. Ooooooo!

Did you know that San Mateo County has a subsidized home composting program? I discovered this when setting up garbage service for my new home in Redwood City. For $ 35, the county will deliver a spiffy Smith and Hawken compost bin (retails for $ 129) to your yard.
