Thor Construction

Got an estimate for work I needed completed. They tried to convince me to do work I didn’t need claiming it was the «proper way to do it». The cost seemed high and there was urgency to get the contract signed. I consulted some East Coast friends in construction and was advised that something seemed shady.
I promptly dismissed the request.
If you do business with them read the paperwork carefully and know something about what you are doing.

Today they were scheduled to come by at 9am and never called or never showed!
Two days ago I spoke with the contractor, he returned my call from a web request I filled out regarding a kitchen remodel on their web page.
He scheduled to come by today at 9am. 9:30 came and he wasn’t here so I called his cell 925−548−0620 and left voicemail I was expecting him and left my call back number. But he never even bothered to call me back and at least apologize and attempt to reschedule. Wow! What poor business person. Just blew off the appointment. Obviously has no interest in new business or how to treat people.
It’s contractors like him who earn their reputation to watch out for hiring the wrong nightmare contractor. Thank goodness I did not hire them because who knows what problems that would have created for me.

I recently finished a fairly sizable remodel with Thor Construction. This being my first remodel undertaking, I was looking for an educational experience and a contractor who would walk me through the process with as much detail-​sharing as possible.
The initial plan was to gut and remodel the kitchen, two bathrooms, remove a light-​blocking porch wall, and do some work in the garage. I got two bids on the work (asked for three, but one contractor never responded). Although Thor’s bid was a little higher than the other contractor, the amount of detail in their bid was very reassuring, so I knew exactly what I was getting into.
The scope of the work changed throughout the project and the team were pretty good as taking things in-​stride. It was a pleasure working with all the guys who were doing the heavy-​lifting at the house and who had an excellent sense of humor, and also with the guys at the office who were obviously invested in their customers’ satisfaction (and who, incidentally, also have a great sense of humor).
With a project as big as mine got, snags always come up no matter who you’re working with and that are not necessarily your fault or your contractor’s. For example, Tim is a pro at expediting your permits with the city, something I tried my hand at but couldn’t quite get the hang of. And whenever I mentioned something I didn’t like it would get fixed/​changed in a pretty reasonable amount of time.
One other issue that was extremely important to me (and I can’t emphasize this enough) is communication. My emails and phone calls were responded to promptly, and my questions were answered thoroughly. This unfortunately is not the case with other companies I’ve worked with who leave you clueless as to when they’ll be showing up or what their progress on work is.
I can definitely see myself working with Dave and his team again in the future on bigger and smaller projects. I consider myself lucky to have worked with a great contractor my first time around.

Dave and his team are extremely professional, warm, organized, and experienced. My husband and I were so impressed with the high level of organization, communication, punctuality… the list goes on. Its refreshing to see a general contractor with such a keen eye for detail who goes the extra mile! With no hesitation whatsoever I fully recommend them!

We used Thor Construction for our master bath remodel. We were very happy with the outcome of the project. We first met with Dave, the owner and Ryan, the Project Manager. Both were very professional, and helped us in our design — providing great suggestions to help us along. Ryan provided weekly updates and met the project timeline. Most of the he work was performed by a single contractor working directly for Thor. His Name is Johann and he was excellent — knowledgeable, skilled, punctual, dependable, trustworthy — you name it. He also answered all our questions along the way. Finally, Dave did the final walk through and made sure we were satisfied with all aspects of the job. After the job was completed, the vent fan they installed stopped working. We reported it and Thor sent someone out right away to replace it. Overall, the whole staff was a pleasure to work with. We highly recommend THOR construction and would not hesitate to use them again for future remodeling needs.

We have used Thor for several projects on our home in Los Altos, ranging from small handyman items to complete remodels of many rooms in our house. We originally had them step in when we were unsatisfied with the unfinished work of several other contractors, and they took over all of our open projects and finished them outstandingly well. Dave has had a lot of great ideas to help improve our house, but is also price-​conscientious to keep the overall budget manageable.
In summary, we have been extremely happy with Thor Construction, will continue to use them for all of our future remodels and other handyman projects, and recommend them highly to our friends and family.

Thor’s response to my review is a lie.

We recently had the pleasure of working with Thor Construction on a rental unit remodeling in Menlo Park. We had quite an extensive list of improvements. It included the repainting of the entire interior with multiple Benjamin Moore colors (including an accent wall), the installation of hardwood floors, crown molding, and the city permit and the plumbing/​electrical work in the establishment of a previous non-​existent washer/​dryer unit in a closet.
The project was managed by Ryan Craig, a consummate professional in his own right and a gifted organizer who had to herd a myriad of incremental requests from us, a strict HOA and a tight schedule. All of their workers were professional and extremely well mannered.
Thor’s workmanship was excellent. The work was done impeccably and in the highest quality. In addition to high overall quality work, one thing that separates Thor Construction with others was the fact that they had a great deal of flexibility in terms of the remodeling job scope change and the appointments with the HOA and the City of Menlo Park inspectors. The fact that they could articulate the project when questioned by difficult authorities, in a clear, professional manner was a critical factor that kept the project on track.
Another big plus for us was their acceptance of credit cards, which provided additional payment flexibility and not to mention, the travel miles.
In short, we had a great experience from start to finish and without reservation, we would recommend Thor Construction for any remodeling project big or small, especially ones that require the city approval and professional written and verbal communication with authorities.

Thor construction is the best! I needed help with a big decision with my project. I was told by a friend to try Thor in Menlo Park. After meeting Dave Bragg the owner, I was confident he was the guy to put my vision into motion. My addition is now finished and I couldn’t be happier. Dave made a few changes for me along the way, and it looks better than I ever dreamed. He was fast, efficient and gave me an affordable price.
I am absolutely recommending Thor to all my friends because I know Dave at Thor will come through.
