I went here to check tires they didn’t have the size I needed the guy was not very helpful. You would think for spending 800.00 on tires the person helping you would have a good attitude and not act like a jerk. He didn’t offer to order tires I had to ask him if they could order them. He then stated it would take 7 to 10 days for the tires to come. I would expect more. Disappointed in the service.

Worst shop ever. Dirty with trash and cigarette butts all over the floor. Customer service sucks too. Save yourself some aggravation and go to Firestone /​Tire Care Plus. I’m terrified that they are working on my car.

Not happy with these guys…
I took my Jeep in to have an electrical assessment, because my blinkers/​hazards were out. It’s a common problem in Jeeps like mine. I looked on YouTube to see how others had fixed the problem, and it was a simple fix. The problem resides in the flasher relay, and can be fixed by doing a quick solder job or simply replacing the relay.
In any case, I was needing to get out of town the next day and decided I might as well have professionals do it for me while I was at work and just pay for labor. So I took it in for an assessment before work.
Pep Boys called me towards the end of the work day and said I would need a new relay as well as a multifunction switch (the actual lever that controls the blinkers, headlamps, etc). Suspicious. They told me it would cost me $ 670 to fix the problem. ABSURD. I told them I would give them a call back.
When I looked online, the average price for a relay was around $ 30 and the switch was around $ 70. Needless to say, I opted out of paying Pep Boys $ 570 for labor.
While I was I was on the phone with them, I asked if the multifunction switch replacement was absolutely needed for the blinkers/​hazards to work. After a slight hesitation, they told me yes.
When my buddy and I opened up the panels to look at the relay, the relay was nowhere to be found. They must have scrapped it! This left me with no chance of soldering it if a broken connection was the problem. We ended up paying just $ 50 at Napa for a new relay and it fixed the problem completely. A new multifunction switch was not needed.
Altogether, in taking off panels, replacing the relay, and replacing the panels it probably took all of 20 minutes.
So unless you want to labor pay rates somewhere in the ball park of $ 1710/​hour ($ 570/​a third of an hour) for a similar problem, take your business somewhere else or do the job yourself.
Personally, I’ll never step foot in this Pep Boys again.

I went online to find a price on an oil change. Online it said they had oil changes for $ 14.99 and to click on it to make an appointment. When I went to their site to make the appointment it said $ 31.99 so I called. I talked to a lady named Lauren who was wonderful and polite. She said that special had expired but after checking «upfront» she could give me an oil change for $ 19.99 + 10% off. Still a great deal so I made the appointment. Lauren told me she noted of the discount in the comment section of the appointment, read back the discount to me and gave me her name and told me to ask for her if there was a problem. When I got there, the guy at the front desk (didn’t get his name; no name tag) told me that he could only give me 1 discount. I explained that I talked to Lauren and he said it didn’t matter only 1 discount could be given. I asked for Lauren and he said she was gone. He did not talk to a manager or anyone else and was just like «you want it or not.» I know that we are only talking 2 bucks and $ 19.99 is a good deal but it just bothered me so I left. I’d rather give someone else my money… even a couple dollars more. I was going to see about getting tires today also but after that I decided to go elsewhere.

I recently purchased a battery from Pep Boys Auto Parts. The battery was not cheap, I think it was $ 215, and it after 2 months it died completely. I took the batter in with no receipt and the manager was super cool about swapping it out. It was clear that I was not trying to pull a fast one and just wanted a product that worked. All the guys working were very nice and one of the mechanics asked if he could swap the new and old battery out. Very nice!
I highly recommend this store based off of the exceptional customer service I received.

Was quoted over $ 900 for brake work yesterday. My local service station performed the work today for $ 350. Need I say more?

My GF changed oil on her car which is full synthetic oil, after 5 months when we tried to change it (oil) we realized that thread on the oil pan nut was stripped off. I talked to the manager, and he said that he doesn’t give a dam (as he told me). Never change oil with these crooks again.

Wish i could put 0 stars… So I went to change my oil and the drain plug was extremely overtightened, spent about half an hour trying to get it loose. My wife said she had the oil changed here so I had her bring the car back to get the bolt loosened. They had horrible customer service and would not squeeze her in to loosen the bolt after 45 minutes. something that would take less than five minutes. Horrible service, I will never let my wife bring the car here again. There is absolutely no reason to over torque an oil drain plug like that… I’ve had difficulty getting plugs loose after going to other shops but not like this. I have a suspicion that some of the mechanics here are extremely negligent workers and I wouldn’t let them touch your cars either.

So Pep Boys reached out to me to I suppose get more information from me and to offer me to go back. First off, I am confused what other information they need, however I emailed back nonetheless. My review pretty much covers everything. Either case, they contacted me, I emailed back and then nothing. To be fair, even with the offer of a visit back, I’m not sure I’d take it, but why reach out and offer half-​ass customer service? I would rather have had no contact at all.

Brought my car in for new tires. Was told it’d be 1 – 1.5 hours. Ok, cool. Two hours later they call and say it’s done. Eh, not bad in timing. Close, anyway. About 20 minutes after the phone call, the husband and I head down to get it… And they discover they’ve put the tires on wrong and have to take all four off and put them back on.
So that took another 45 minutes. The work that was estimated to take 1 – 1.5 hours has now taken over 3 hours. Not so great. However, the manager we asked to speak with was super nice and understood how ridiculous that timeline is, and that the mistake was theirs with putting them on incorrectly in the first place. He gave us a pretty good discount for the trouble and the wasted time.

Ordinarily I like taking my car to Pep Boys as I find their prices are considerably less than the dealers. However, the service was a bit slow even though there weren’t that many people waiting for service. They were pretty thorough and did identify some problems with my vehicle that I’m sure I’ll have them fix later.

I have been doing business with Pep Boys on 5000 Smithridge Drive, in Reno, for 3 years. They have an outstanding business, and have treated me very well. They are also reasonable, and trust worthy. It is difficult to find an honest shop, but this location on «Smithridge,» is the best! They have a good website to make an appointment for repair or purchase tires, batteries, and other serviceable parts. The prices are extremely good (they give more discounts if you clip out the on-​line coupons). If you are a customer, they give you a card, and if you build up points, they give additional discounts. In the past, I have taken my car to this location because I thought I needed brakes, but they told me that my brakes were fine, and they did not charge for the inspection. The same thing happened today, when I thought I needed a water pump. They checked, but found nothing wrong with my water pump (and did not charge me to check it out). This is the kind of company you want to do business with. I highly recommend Pep Boys on 5000 Smithridge Drive, in Reno.

If an auto shop can’t do an oil change correctly I am loathe to think what quality of work they do on more advanced services. After bringing it back to have the service redone I was met with questionable service to the point that I had no option but to supervise the oil change as I had no faith in their ability to do it correctly.

Service department is lacking, employees don’t seem motivated and don’t follow through and seem to use the shotgun approach to resolving mechanical issues. I would advise caution and get a second opinion from another shop before proceeding with these guys. The parts counter inside the store is knowledgeable and they are helpful but I prefer the guys at the O’Reily store at Damonte Ranch by a long shot.

Service was helpful and straight forward. From the towing to the billing, this place was painless to deal with. Would have gotten a 5 but had it took 2 different visits in before they got in completely fixed. Otherwise, a relatively painless experience and have them at the top of my list from now on.

If I could give it 0 stars, I wouldn’t hesitate but this place is TERRIBLE. I’ve been here a few times for numerous things, last summer for an alignment, so we’ll start with that story.
I waited in line for about 10 minutes before being acknowledged by who turned out to be Korey at the desk, he informed me they could fit me in and it would only take about 45 minutes to an hour, cool. No problem. We wait around for around 30 minutes and get tired of waiting, so decide to walk home (we live less than a mile away) After getting half way there Korey calls me and informs me that they can’t do my alignment, because the guy who does that is gone now. This was after waiting the hour. I was pretty pissed, so we didn’t go back for that.
My fiancé went and got an oil change in January, nothing went wrong so that was okay.
Today, 2÷6÷2014, his diff. oil plug basically burns off and the truck starts a mini fire with the leaked oil. We contact them, and they inform us it’s not their problem. Okay… So we take the truck there for them to look at, they checked fluids (when we didn’t ask them to) and then charged us 38 for it. Seriously. So I contact my father and he tells me to ask them to replace the plug and put oil in it. Korey, again, lovely Korey tells me they cannot do that. I say okay, fine. We go into the store part of pep boys and look for the plug and gear oil ourselves, unable to find it we ask Donovan if they have it in stock. The dude has issues even understanding what we’re saying, god only knows why but after 5 – 6 minutes of searching for it, he says the don’t have any 90w oil for the gears. I ask if they atleast have the plug, to which he looks at me and laughs. I could not believe that.
I went to autozone, spoke with an older man who was extremely apologetic and helped me with everything, had everything in stock and no grief. I was in and out in 5 minutes.

Dare I say I like it here. lol Its not something most girls would say. I love it that they will fill my tires when they are low. They will put in the light bulbs after I buy them so I dont have to find someone to do it for me. They staff is great and friendly so I will be back!

We had an appt at 9am. They had made 5 appts for that time and we had to wait 40 min. Not too happy with them right now.

Just dropped almost 600.00 into my Honda, and Jermey becaome my new best friend.
I would and will be coming back to this Pep Boys to have my struts and shocks done. Ask for Jermey to help you he did a great job keeping me up to date on what needed to be done, and answered all my «womely» questions.

After arriving in Reno on a Saturday afternoon from a three hour road trip, I discovered that my brakes were metal to metal. Realizing that there was no way I was going down the hill with bad brakes I frantically began to look for someone that was open on the weekend and would have the parts for a Toyota do the brake job — Pep Boys was able to do the repair work first thing Sunday morning. The staff was friendly and the repair technician even took the time to show me my old parts. Needless to say, it made the rest of the weekend a relaxing time which we spent at the Peppermill spa
