As much as I don’t like coming here, because honestly who wants to go to the ER? I do think they have the most accommodating staff and waiting room possible for an ER. When I had to take my son here for breathing issues from the smoke, the check in was simple and the triage nurse was SOAMAZING with my son. The nurse was very light hearted, happy, and overall a calming person. We did have to wait awhile(3 hours, but there was overflow from the main hospital that day). They had plenty of seating. Some couches, chairs, and chairs with tables. Overall clean and nice. In the room we were seen very quickly. In and out, no problems. I’d rather go here, than mill st if I need to be seen quickly.

This review pertains to the Emergency Department, staff of the 2nd floor and the technician who performed my ultrasound. I was in Renown SM for four days from admission to discharge and literally all but ONE element of it made it as good of a hospital visit as I could have hoped for. I went to the ER on a Saturday around 11pm to follow up on a previous visit after I got worse. At that point I was pretty seriously ill so they did not even waste time making me go through triage — took me right back to a room and within ten minutes I had tests running and was being asked what they could do to make me more comfortable. At one point I ended up throwing up in a garbage can for a good five minutes, was totally embarrassed and they tried to lighten the mood and keep me positive instead of letting me focus on how crappy I was feeling. Around 3am, they made the determination that I needed to be admitted and the Dr. fully explained why they made that decision instead of sending me home as opposed to just talking down to me or not explaining anything at all which is what I’m used to from previous hospital experiences. Best of all, the nurse who was assisting me primarily in the ER arranged for me to have a private room so my husband was able to stay with me through the entirety of my visit and the CNAs, nurses and food staff all made sure he had meals to go with mine. Over the three days I was here, my nurses(Jenn, Julia, Kelly — AMAZING Leah and Lillie were also wonderful though I didn’t interact with them as much as I was actually able to sleep on their watch which was nice!), CNAs(Charlotte, Adelia and Pollyanna, sweetest girls ever), food service staff, transport and ultrasound tech were absolutely incredible. Friendly, warm, caring and most importantly PATIENT. While I try my best not to be an overly annoying patient, due to what I was in for, I needed assistance getting to/from the restroom and frequent pain meds but never once did I sense annoyance or anything but cheerfulness or sympathy when I had to call someone. Dr. Ritchie, the Hospitalist who I dealt with most of the time I was there had the perfect bedside manner, was thorough in explaining everything to me and despite a serious diagnosis, kept me calm and assured me everything would be okay. The ONLY downside to the visit — on the day I was discharged, Dr. Ritchie unfortunately was off so I was meeting with a different hospitalist. He clearly took lessons from House on bedside manner. He was curt, seemed annoyed that he had to meet with me before being discharged to answer questions about my diagnosis and basically disagreed with EVERYTHING I had been told prior to that point about both my initial cause for the stay and my follow up care. Thankfully, Jenn stayed behind, reassured me that my follow up appointment would help clear any confusion up and helped me set up all the appointments I needed to do so. Overall, I consider myself to be a pretty experienced hospital visitor(something I can’t say I’m thrilled about: P) and this was easily the best inpatient/ER experience I’ve had. These people truly care for their patients and their jobs and try to make the best out of an experience no one wants to go through.
