Old hotel that needs updating but they have good food in the restaurants.

Spend the extra $ 30 for a better hotel. This place is dirty. Recommend dishing out a few mor clams for a better room.

I am a fan of the Prime Rib Buffet served Sunday thru Thursday. If you have a club card the price is amazing. (And anyone can have a club card if you apply on the casino floor.) They do an excellent job on the prime rib and there are always other protein offerings too: fish, ribs, sausages, clams, mussels. The salad bar is adequate but not overbearing. Desert bar is why I have downgraded this rating by one star. However, they do have a soft ice cream machine that serves up as much frozen desert as you can hold.
For great table service ask for Carlos!

You get what you pay for, and if you pay more than $ 20.00 per night for a room it isn’t worth it. This has got to be the worst place in reno. Based on the room I had, I wouldn’t spend a dime in their restaraunts or casino.

For a business trip and over Memorial weekend we decided to take some time in Reno and do some shopping. We’re not big gamblers but thought it be fun to stay in a casino hotel. Most things were booked as we did this last minute. Let me warn you this hotel is low-​quality hotel. I encourage you to look elsewhere. Because it was last minute we stayed in two different rooms. They upgraded us to one suite (70’s style) which was old and dingy and quite frankly filthy. With no other rooms available anywhere else and prepaid with this hotel we were forced to stay… moved to another room down the hall the second night (15^th floor). Although it says it’s a non-​smoking floor the smell of smoke and pot was profound. The air-​conditioner never went below 79. It was hotter than hell. The second room was also filthy old and dingy (same 70 – 80 style!). you can tell the quality of this hotel because all of the slot machines are either one penny or nickel. We found a few quarter machines. After about 10 minutes and 20 bucks later, it wasn’t worth it to stick around the casino. We found other places to go and avoided the Sands. And apparently they must have a lot of «vandalism» in the rooms because they charged my card $ 75 deposit which was refunded when they confirmed all items in room remained intact!
I warn you stay somewhere else.

We needed a room on Memorial Day weekend last minute to make a friend’s birthday, and this one popped up with availability at a reasonable price, and a location only a couple of blocks from our friend’s apartment and Reno’s lovely river walk.
Check in was easy at 2:45 pm, although there was a long line after 4 pm. Our room on the 14^th floor had great views, was clean, quiet, and comfortable, with most of the amenities, except a micro or coffee maker, which seems to be the case in most casino hotels. Elevators were prompt too.
The casino itself is meh (but then, I am not a gambler) but the room comes with coupons for cheap drinks and eats in the casino bars and restaurants, with 2 dollar well drinks and beer, so you can’t go wrong. We ate at the Copa –good service, steak and lobster for $ 18. A nice save

Worst experience EVER. Made a reservation through their online reservation system. Wasn’t aware that first nights deposit was due upon making the reservation. Instead of receiving an email confirmation, I received an email stating that 1^st nights stay was due or the reservation would be cancelled within 24 hrs. I wasn’t 100% sure about staying there so I was ok with just letting the reservation cancel. A couple days later I received an email stating the reservation was cancelled due to non payment. This past Friday I received notification from my bank that my credit card had been charged for the 1^st nights stay — despite the previous cancellation. So I immediately tried to contact the hotel to inquire about a refund being that I did not go. Here began the circle of transferring me from person to person and being told that the 1 person out of all the staff that could help me had gone home for the day and for me to call back the following day. The following day I called and called and was transferred from person to person to voice mails, endless voicemails. I was told to talk to MaryAnne, the auditor, she was rude, wouldn’t listen, and basically just repeated your hotel policy over and over as if I was a 2 year old. She said that she would not give me a refund and that next time I should «be more careful” — NO HELP WHATSOEVER!!! Today is Monday, I’ve been trying to reach the Reservation Manager since Friday-​all I get is her voice mail, which I have left with no phone call back from her (Laura). This is a multi million dollar corporation, why am I having such a hard time getting back a measly 1 hundred $‘s and some change!!! Your customer service is HORRIBLE and this whole situation is ridiculous. I stay at hotels frequently and I’ve NEVER came across such disregard for your customer.
Really really disappointed, angry, and very frustrated behind this ordeal.
I WOULDN’T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO MY WORST ENEMY!!!

The place looked ok upon check in. I was only staying one night then flying out the next morning. They put me on the top floor, 15. Still ok. The room next door had the tv volume wide open. I didn’t think much of it at check in as I went on a walk down to the Truckee River. Got back after a beer and dinner. TV still blasting. TV blasted all night still blasting when my alarm went off at 5am.
Was told the desk was manned ²⁴⁄₇. Stopped at the desk for them to call a taxi to airport since the free shuttle doesn’t start until 6:45am. Not what they told me when I booked the room. There was no one at the desk. After 10 minutes, I guess I woke the guy up in the back room.
He called a taxi and pointed to the door where I should wait. 20 minutes, no taxi. I go back in and ask him to call again. No taxi. I go back in. He had told me to wait at the wrong door.
What’s up with not properly training employees in the service industry?

The first time I stayed it, it was bad. The toilet wouldn’t flush and the ac wouldn’t work. A few days later I got an email from them and was told to rate the stay, and I told them I had a horrible time. They replied back and were very kind and wanted to correct my bad stay and gave me a room for free for any night I wanted. The second time I stayed I was upgraded to the dynasty rooms. It was big, but a lot of empty space, overall no complaints. I think The Sands is a great place to stay for the price. There are a few sketchy people, but I’ve never had any trouble with them. They have a nice parking garage and I can walk downtown. They also have a 24 food place and it is decent, a bit pricey though.

Could be worse… Could be a lot better. Neither bed in our room had a fitted sheet, just a flat sheet laid across the mattress. This freaked me out as I’m a germaphobe.
There was poop in our toilet when we checked in. Yes POOP. not from us. The maids claimed it was «stained» and refused to clean it.
Whatever you do DO NOT EAT AT THE BUFFET unless you want to be leaving your poop in a room at check out also.

Used to enjoy a stay here every few months. Won’t be coming back. Needed to let manager know about an incident that happened with scolding hot water from the sink and shower. Pretty much couldn’t use the running water. Anyways… didn’t receive any call/​email back after writing the manager. Disappointing!

Decent place for the price. For around $ 40/​night you get a room with bed (s) and TV. Cribs available but cost $ 10 a night to rent. No fridge or microwave, or coffee pot. Bath tub was dirty but otherwise the room appeared clean. Keep in mind that you must walk through the casino to get to a room and it is very smokey. Mel’s Diner is on the building as well with decent American diner food. They reportedly have an outdoor pool but it was drained we stayed. They said it’s open during the summer. The parking garage was closed but decent outdoor lot. First night was quiet in our room and the second we could hear people upstairs for a bit, in the hallway. Overall a good stay for $ 40/​night.

HORRIBLE place.
If you dont encounter a problem during your stay, its a fantastic place.
But, BUT, BUT if you do encounter a problem, stay becomes a hell very fast.
They delivered 3 refrigerators, took seven hours for the pillows, gave me a wrong room twice, loud parties in hall but do nothing about it.
So I ended up checking out a day early and ive talked to manager two times during my stay regarding refunds. Its been a month since my stay, 6 phone calls, 3 emails, and still no refund.
I suggest circus circus to stay cuz its cheaper and connected anyway.

Decent hotel overall.
Customer service seems to be fast and friendly.
The room was fine, nothing special.
Bed was reasonably comfortable.
The television was a flat screen hi-​def, but only got standard reception.
The shower was very slow to drain.
Both ice machines on the 5^th floor were broken.
Mel’s Diner was delicious.
This place is cheap, and service more than adequate. It’s absolutely nothing fancy but, then again, neither is Reno.

We were woken up by a strong pot smell in a non smoking area and banging on the ceiling above us. When we left our room later we were overwhelmed by the smell in the hallway.
We later found out they were putting in new carpet above us. Not a big deal but can that wait until a little later in the morning?
The furniture is run down. The chair in our room was busted and I ended up cutting my arm.
What was really bad tho was housekeeping has no regard for do not disturb signs. We had ours on the door and they proceeded to walk right on in. So glad we were decent. At this point we spoke to a front desk supervisor who seemed to disregard what we had to say. She seemed very fake.
The buffet is very small but decent.
The best part of the Sands is Mel’s Diner. Their food is good and not overly priced. The hotel itself… eh
If you need a cheap place to stay and don’t plan on spending much time in the room then this might be OK for you.

This place is known for their cheap drinks and shady characters.
That’s exactly what my friends and I found on a Saturday night around 9pm.
Drinks
Went looking for the cheap drinks and found them. One promotion they had at the time was a 24oz Sierra Nevada Pale Ales for $ 4. An excellent deal!
Atmosphere
The interior probably has been remodeled in a while judging by the low ceilings and décor. Feels old…
P. S. Be prepared for anything to happen when your there on a weekend. No lies! Met some of the weirdest people having a drink at the bars there.

We stayed at the Sands during Superbowl weekend checking out on Sunday. Usually our stays there are nice and fun. I mean you cant beat $ 19 per night during the week. Well this weekend started out like the rest, Our room older but nice, very clean with a nice view of the Littlest Big City.
Saturday came along, we went out for brunch (which was nice) and later returned to the Sands. We got into the elevator and started going up to our room. Then we reached the 8^th floor and the elevator stopped, and the doors would not open. We waited a few minutes trying to get the doors open, and nothing. So we called security and told them we were stuck inside the elevator. The security officer told us it would be an hour before the elevator company would be there to let us out. We waited a little over and hour and we were free.
Two security officers started questioning us, Asking what were did, We stated that we were bouncing around, kinda bubbly like, but not anything hardcore and the elevator just stopped running. The security officer then told us, that we were jumping around inside of it like crazy people causing the elevator to think it was having an earthquake. I disagreed with the officer since we were not jumping around and with a load occupancy of 11 people or 2,500lbs how could we have set off the sensors, He then told us we would be responsible for the elevator tech to come out and it would cost us up to $ 1,500. I told the officer that we were NOT gonna pay for the tech to come out, because we were not horse playing (what the officer said later on). The officer then told us that if we didn’t put our credit card info down on file that he was going to have us arrested for trespassing, Not wanting to go to jail, I gave him my info. He did assure me that there would be no charges until I authorize them. (I wont be authorizing them).
We finally made it to our room to relax a little before going to a show at the Silver Legacy. Still having questions I called down to talk to the front desk, of course the guy i talked to (Orlando the front desk manager) wouldn’t answer any of my questions, and told me he would have the Director of Security call me and he could answer my questions. The Director of Security never call me back.
Later on we entered the elevator to leave for the night and we noticed a new red sign on the elevator wall stating that if any horse play and or jumping inside the elevator will cause it to stall and the person would be responsible for the elevator company to come out. We took a pic of it laughing at it. We went to the other casino and enjoyed the show.
SUNDAY morning we went to check out and that was a breeze, We stopped by the security desk and asked how come the little red signs were not inside the elevator before our so call incident. The security manager on duty told us, that they have always been posted inside. I told him it was not true and showed him a pic I took of us inside the elevator when it go stuck, (no sign) The security manager quickly became very busy and told me he couldn’t talk us and we would have to call on Tuesday to talk to the Director of Security?
So now its a waiting game to talk to the director of security
I decided to give the Sands 2 stars because you cant beat $ 1 beers all day and all night. and because they have a Mel’s Diner that it opened ²⁴⁄₇

It is New Years Eve and me and my family are hanging out at the Sports Bar having a drink and watching the Warriors game. All of a sudden security walks up and ask my mom and I if we are staying here and cards me. Everything is fine… We show them our IDs and room key and continue to watch the game.
About an hour later a family member joins us and is on the phone… Again security comes up and ask if him if he’s staying here while he is in the phone. They bring all this security and attempt to kick him out saying its «hotel policy» and «they don’t allow loitering.» We are sitting, drinking and watching the games.
Mean while there homeless people sitting at the tables right behind them and they walk right past them. There is literally a homeless man right next to mess I type this out. Complete BULLSHIT!

I stayed here for a night during my short trip to Reno. As surprised as I was from just from looking at the outside of the hotel, it was more comfortable than I expected. The room was nice and clean except for a rogue towel I found on the floor. The bed and everything else was set up nicely. They only issue that I came across with my room was the shower. The water didn’t turn on and I then went downstairs to have them move me at the very least. They were able to move me to a room directly across which was very convenient when I moved my belongings.
The casino floor was very small and felt like I was in an older casino. The main demographic of guests were people older than the age of 50 it seemed with me being the only guest younger than that. I didn’t mind because I just needed a place to sleep and put my belongings. The casino has a few places to eat but I only went to the Cabana Café in the morning to get breakfast. It is very convenient to grab something quick and go back up to your room to eat.
Overall, if you can get a really cheap room like I did for $ 29 plus tax and resort fees, go for it. It is a place to stay and gives you all the basic necessities.

Oh Sands Regency, where do I begin with you? Well, you’ve got Mel’s, so that’s a plus. If Bingo is your thing, this is the place to go! Parking is convenient, and I do love those Utility Players at the Jester’s Theater! We actually had a pretty nice room from our view, which was a nice surprise. It’s also really inexpensive. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for at the Sands.
My husband and I stayed here a few weeks ago so we could have a good time downtown and not worry about driving home. Stepping into Sands Regency is like entering a dimly lit, smoky time capsule. Our check-​in was unexpectedly time-​consuming. It took a solid 25 minutes with only 4 people in line. No one seems happy to be there– neither the staff nor the guests.
There is a really stale, unpleasant, musty smell in the hallways of the hotel, like aroma-​untherapy. As for the room itself, it made little sense. In this technology-​fueled era in which we live, I was shocked to discover only ONE power outlet where we could charge our phones and computer. I realize that’s a minor issue, I’ve just never seen that in a hotel. Even Motel 6/​Days Inn has a few outlets for you to use.
There were two awkward chairs by the window, but no desk or table. Apparently they bolted the desk to the dresser to fill up more wall space on the other side of the room. There is no fridge, minibar or coffee pot! And the cabinet on the dresser is not for your personal items, it’s where someone shoved all the electrical cords to hide them from sight. There was one of those erector set-​looking lamps on the desk, but it had no bulb. The tv is a tube tv without any guide. WiFi is spotty at best. The drinks at the main bar were terrible and watered down. I wasn’t expecting a craft cocktail, but I expected my jack and coke to taste like a jack and coke.
The worst part? I had a giant bug bite on my thigh the next morning. I think it was a spider b/​c there were fang marks. Ew. It took weeks to go away, and I still have a little mark. I’d only recommend the Sands if every other hotel in town is booked. There are lots of good staycation deals for locals at other resorts in town that don’t cost *that* much more than the Sands.
