Description

Specialties

The Concrete Lotus is a downtown Pilates studio offering a fun, safe, and affordable environment where anyone can come and practice Pilates. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early twentieth century, Pilates focuses specific attention on core muscles and a conscious attention to the breath and to pelvic alignment. Each exercise is aimed at increasing core stability, physical strength and stamina, body awareness, and overall health and well being. Performed on the Reformer or on a mat, Pilates encourages proper body alignment and controlled muscle function. This intense focus provides balanced support for the spine, a lengthening of the muscles, and a profound strengthening of deep transverse abdominal muscles.

History

Established in 2008.

It must have been during one of our many walks or coffee and bagel breakfasts at Bibo Coffee Co. (a reward for the walk, of course) that we felt our area needed something a little different. We were imagining something like a boutique Pilates studio which would be run by someone who really cared about Reno, the development of downtown, who would showcase local artists and loves music, and naturally, someone who loves teaching the practice and principles of Pilates. It was, of course, a small shock when we realized that we might just be those people. So when an opportunity arose we took a chance and decided to open The Concrete Lotus.

A lot of walks and way too many coffees and salt bagels to count (thank you Bibo and Truckee River Bagel Co.) we hope to express to you through our studio how committed we are to Reno and to the principles of Pilates as they were originally conceived by Joseph Pilates.

Meet the Business Owner

Annie R.

Business Owner

As one of the owners of The Concrete Lotus, I am very proud that we can bring you a fun, hip environment to get in shape. I am all about prevention, the better you treat your body now, the more it will allow you to do in life. Let’s prevent the injury before it has a chance to occur by keeping the body stretched, toned and ready for whatever you want to do. I have my certification for pilates through Balanced Body University, and have been trained and certified as yoga teacher through The White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara. I became a lover of pilates and yoga when I saw first hand how it changed my body. Not only did I become leaner, stronger and more toned, I carried myself differently. I felt my posture improve, I became more aware of what was happening in my body, I felt centered and in control.. Pilates and yoga can be a beautiful compliment to each other, but each on their own can be equally effective.
