History

Established in 2012.

Rover​.com was founded on the idea that dogs deserve a safe, loving home to stay in while their owners travel. The idea for the company was inspired by founder Greg Gottesman’s own experience. Following an expensive stay at a kennel, Greg’s lab, Ruby Tuesday, came home injured. Greg knew there had to be a better way to care for his dog when his family traveled and came up with Rover​.com! The idea won 1^st prize at Seattle Start-​up Weekend and just like that, our company was born.

Since then, Rover​.com has grown to over 200,000 members nationwide and continues to appeal to dog-​lovers who want to do better by the furry friends in their lives. In addition to providing a better dog boarding experience, the charitable-​giving program called Sit a Dog, Save a Life, enables Rover dog sitters to donate all or a portion of their dog sitting proceeds to dog related charities in your city and across the country, including The Humane Society of the United States.

Hosts, sitters, and dog walkers in the Rover Dog Boarding Community are in control of their own business. Rover dog sitters set their own rates, manage their own schedule & availability, and can even opt in to our Sit-​A-​Dog, Save-​a-​Life Charitable Donation Program. Dog owners have the ability to browse different sitters based off several different search filters in order to find the best sitter for you and your pooch!
