We are a full service companion animal facility to meet your pet’s needs from their youth to their geriatric years. Think of us as your pet’s family doctor! Our services include annual health exams, vaccinations, geriatric medicine, diagnostics, dental services, behavorial services and reproductive services.

History

Established in 1960.

Spring Glen Veterinary Hospital has been a part of the Renton community since the early sixties. Dr. Melinda Cumming purchased the practice in September of 1999 and has continued to practice high quality medicine. In the past eleven years Dr. Cumming has grown the practice to include another full time associate, Dr, Margaret Hammond, and a part time associate, Dr. Deborah Wolf. We have continued to improve the quality of medicine offered my the addition of not only dental xray but also bringing in digital xray for analyzing bones and soft tissue.

Although high quality medicine is important we also understand the importance of meeting the clients needs as well. We strive to serve both to the best of our abilities.

Dr. Cumming graduated from Washington State University with a degree in veterinary medicine (DVM), and a PhD in neuroscience. She currently lives with 3 cats — tailess, toothless, and blind — and a young West Highland White Terrier named Doc.

She has spent the last 16 years building Spring Glen into a busy and compassionate small animal practice in Renton, WA. She always is interested in learning new medicine, surgeries, or techniques and brings this joy of learning to every aspect of the practice.

Clear communication with clients is very important to her and treatment choices are always made in agreement between doctor and client with the pet’s best interests and health at the top of the list.

Very nice staff and We love Dr Wolf. It’s so nice that she also has a dashchund so I can relate to her a lot. She answers all my emails promptly whenever I have a question which is so convenient. I saw my coworker one day there and he said he was surprised how they didn’t try to charge him for unnecessary things which I completely agree. I always have to haul my 3 kids with me and they are so accommodating. Dr wolf also has 3 kids so she completely understands how I feel. We really love this place.

I switched vets about 3yrs ago and have been pleased. My previous vet did a good job but every visit there were price increases. Spring Glen Vet has maintained a fair rate with good results.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed them before! I love my fur babies more than most people so I take their care very seriously. Everyone in this office is friendly and knowledgeable. Their hours are easy to accommodate any working schedule and I can usually get appointments pretty quickly. On New Year’s Eve I panicked when I realized I was out of tranquilizers for my dog and the fireworks place her in great distress. I was able to call an hour before closing and pick up some pills. Saved my night! Also, their prices are not out of control which is always a plus with a vet.

Amazingly knowledgeable, patient, friendly staff. I can not imagine a better veterinary experience. Separate waiting rooms for dogs and cats. Generous hours. Reasonable rates. This place really does it right!

I went to Meow Cat Rescue and I adopted an amazing little kitty who I spoil very much. First I took my kitty to the Highlands Veterinary Hospital due to a recommendation. Two days after I took her to the first visit, she started sneezing and her eyes were getting a lot of muck in them. I quickly went to the vet and asked what was wrong. They were «unable to diagnose» and sent me home with some eye drops and a 200 $ charge. (The eye drops were ~50 $). I was more concerned about my cat and they didn’t tell me it would cost 150 $ just for my kitty to see the vet so I went home and the drops did help her get better (She ended up just having a kitty cold she picked up from the adoption center). Fast forward a year later when her yearly check up is due, I gave a call to the Highlands Veterinary Hospital and asked for an estimate price. They beat around the bush about giving me any numbers because «it was all situation» on what she needed. The range she provided was 200 $ — 400 $. I called Spring Glen Veterinary who told me it was 50 $ to see the vet, and about 25 $ per shot (total of 100 $) and they provided a LOT better service. Dr. Hammond was very kind, very informative, and I know it may sound silly, but I feel as if even my little kitty was even relaxed and okay being there. She gave the shots to my cat without a flinch and they even sent her home with some kitty snacks! They actually care about your pet, and you can really tell as soon as you walk in the door.

We have been taking our Labradors to Dr. Cumming for years. She is so compassionate about dogs, is very knowledgeable, and has always found the right treatment for any issue our dogs had. She spends much time when we visit, we can discuss any issue openly with her. When we come in, the desk staff stops, and says Hi to our Ruby! You can see they all love their work, and the animals that come in! When our last Lab had oral cancer, Dr. Cumming emailed us a long article about this type of cancer — we can see too, how much she loves her work. We wouldn’t now go to any other Vet as long as Dr. Cumming is there; she is the best!

I’ve been taking my cat to Dr. Hammond ever since she was a kitten. She’s a wonderful vet! Before I got my cat, my granny brought her cat here for years and I believe saw Dr. Cummings. My sister also brought her cat here when she moved back from Colorado. This office is kind and professional especially in times of crisis. Examples:
My sister’s cat ended up having chylothorax around 9 years old. It’s a condition where the chest cavity fills up with fluid and it becomes difficult for them to breathe. After being diagnosed by Dr. Cummings, she had her cat’s chest drained. A week later, the symptoms returned. Unable to see her normal vet at this clinic, my sister saw Dr. Hammond. Who after a long conversation, drained her cat’s chest one more time and let her cuddle before putting it to sleep. The condition had progressed and her lungs had started filling with fluid. Dr. Hammond was honest about the potential treatments and the chance of recovery. My sister, although upset, was happy that it was handled the way it was. The office also sent her a card that everyone signed to let her know they were sorry about her cat.
My cat was very lethargic and did not eat or drink for over a day. I called on Monday morning and asked for an appointment. The girl told me that they were pretty full, but that people usually call to cancel or delay appointments for their cats due to difficultly getting them into a carrier. She told me to come in ASAP and they’d see what they could do. We saw Dr. Hammond, who discovered that it was only a fever, although a high fever for a cat. She gave my cat a shot of penicillin (if I remember properly) and made sure that she drank a little before we left. In my rush, I’d accidentally left my purse at home. I drive over 30 minutes to get to this vet. The front desk said that they normally hold your pet there until you pay, but considering the circumstances she let us leave with the promise to call when I got home. I did just that and paid over the phone.
Overall a great office with caring people!

Very friendly staff and receptionist! Dr. Cummings was awesome. She was very compassionate and showed she cared about my dogs problem. My dog is unfriendly to strangers, but Dr. Cummings took the time to make him feel comfortable around her. Which is great in my opinion. Over all I had a great experience and if I do have any problems I will certainly be returning here. Thank you so much!

Really glad to have found SGVH. I’d recommend Dr. Hammond then Dr. Cumming. We’ve had a difficult case with a diabetic cat with pancreatitis. Lots of finessing with different meds over months and he’s recovered nicely.
Professional staff that might be a little hard-​core for some, apparently, but very grateful to have found these guys. Always very accommodating and compassionate.

Took my senior Pomeranian there to be diagnosed when we saw blood in her urine. They got us in quickly and gave us treatment options to try without jumping to the most drastic. They were professional and nice at a time both my husband and I were very stressed.

What can I say about Spring Glen and my vet, Dr Wolf? This is a rare clinic because they offer all the most current diagnostics and treatments, yet they do not pressure you or upsell during your visit. Arrive at the front door and you’ll notice a separate lobby for cats and dogs– this really reduces stress for everyone. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful and there are enough staff that you aren’t waiting. They get you back to a room quickly, so your pet can relax while waiting for the doctor. They run on schedule, and you never feel rushed. I have two rescue cats and a dog and I have had Dr Wolf as my veterinarian for 10 years (before she was at Spring Glen) and I highly recommend her. She is compassionate, talented, brilliant and really cares about her patients and their human companions. Go to Spring Glen, tell them Mike the Poodle and his mom recommended you. We promise you’ll love it!

Dr. Cummings is amazing. She is so nice and caring towards my dog. My dog is a little agressive and she’s super afraid of the vet but Dr. Cummings was not scared of my dog and she totally understands my dog’s behavior. She always made sure I understand what is going on and took the time to explained to me. She always asked if I have any other questions and try to educate me as much as possible. The wait to see the doctor was not long and the staff in the from was very friendly. Overall, I really like this vet and thank god its nearby!

These people are so patient with customers ranging from 2 – 4 legs. They were also incredibly accommodating for a last minute, semi-​emergency appointment even though they had a full schedule. Never once did we feel rushed or bullied into having unnecessary procedures. We will be back and have already recommended SGV to others!

I recently came to this vet and was very disappointed. The receptionist was not helpful at all, and worse the vet I had barely Looked at my dog. It seemed like she was In a hurry to leave the room. When I emailed them to notify them of third lack of customer service, thief response was basically «sorry, and good luck at your next vet» very unprofessional. Will highly recommend people to take their pets else where.

I really loved their service. My coworker recommended me to them since I had a bad experience with Banfield. I was a bit early but Dr. Hammond showed up earlier just to help me out with my cat. My cat had these spots on her left eye and I was afraid that it might be a tumor (according to the internet source). Dr. Hammond updated her vaccination shot and checked her eye and she said it’s just freckles that were formed by pigments which was a relief. And guess what? SHE DIDNT PESTER ME! She didn’t «recommend that mittens has to take extra exams» or «we think she has heart murmur» etc etc like Banfield. They didn’t harass me one bit. She just went straight to the point and that was that. And I loved it. They also trimmed her nails (which came with the visit) and it came up to about $ 82? Which is awesome because Banfield charged me monthly AND every other office visits which cost me over $ 100 every time I visited them.
I recommend this vet! Also, they gave me a huge bag of freebies to try out such as cat food that clean tarter off their teeth (which I might buy). Great service, great staff, and no pestering!

I love Dr. Cummings! We got a reccomendation to Spring Glen when we first got our puppies (had been taking our cats to vets here and there and never quite happy).
We started out with Dr. Cloud, whom seemed to be gone within a few months and we were assigned Dr. Cummings. Now 2 years later, we wouldn’t go anywhere else!
She’s great with our dogs. She knows exactly how to make them comfortable and seems medically knowledgeable. We’ve never had any issues with her suggestions and prescriptions.
Besides the doctor, the office staff is PHENOMENAL! They’re super compassionate and helpful. AND they have late hours (7 AM to 7 PM, I believe) … SCORE!
I can’t give them 4 stars because I LOVE this vet so much … but honestly, the cost is kind of high compared to what we’ve heard our friends and family pay at other places. However … for my fur-​babies, there’s no cost on health!
Update: August 2013 — When looking back at this, I’m realizing that since my review we’ve been seeing Dr. Hammond more frequently. She’s wonderful too! Patient, knowledgeable and caring! Wouldn’t go anywhere else!
