Rent-A-Wreck

USED to be «Rent-​A-​Wreck», and run by a Guy named Jay, whom over the past decade and now & then needing a Moving Van, Rental Car for the day, ect. I’m not quite sure as to what name this ADDRESS is currently running by, so CAUTION! I was told Jay «sold» this Company a while back. I rented a Car from that location. Due to a possible legal problem with them, I cannot comment further-​But that in itself should tell a consumer plenty.

Never and I repeat never rent from this place. I say this place and not the others. It’s because the Management/​Owner is a shister. I went in to rent a car and first thing was told 5 day minimum. Only needing the car 3 or 4 days per my mechanic. So back up against the wall I agreed to the 5 day minimum. Which by the way coincided with the registration of the car expiring. I did a night drop on the car and called the next day with no answer and no return call. Called the next day no answer, no return call after leaving again another message. After the fourth day I went in on the morning of the 5^th day because after calling other Rent A Wreck location and looking on the internet I discovered this location has closed. So I went the location to see if there notices on the door what had happened to the car I dropped on the same day the registration has expired. To my surprise the business name had changed as did the phone number. However the same staff were there working as was the Managers. After quickly explaining who I was and my situation With as described above I was told I am a scammer and a liar. And that my $ 220.00 Deposit (approx beacuse 180 would be taken out for the rental days) would not be given back and in fact I owed them money. After I explained the problem with no one answering or calling me back I was told that I should have come in. Again I was called a liar and that this game has tried on them all the time. I explained the car drop they said they don’t do that anymore even though there’s still a car drop slot and was never told this. I explain to him the expired registration, and was told you can still drive the car on an expired registration. That’s news to me. He even said I could have dropped the car off last nite, insinuating I was trying to scam him. Even though it had a weeks worth of bird droppings on it from the tree it was parked under. I showed the manager every call two and three times a day for the past 5 days on my phone with just nothing more than a blank stare. I asked him why no call back after repeated messages, again a blank stare. So I asked him point blank you’re not going to refund my deposit and he said quote «hell no why should I». I have rented from this location several times and not only have they lost me as a customer but I will tell everyone I know in person and social media of their games, poor customer service and insults. A side note a week later I was in need of another rental car for work purposes. And after vowing and I would never go back I checked with Budget rental car and for $ 5 more I got a brand new car, not a hundred and sixty thousand mile POS. There is a reason I believe they have changed the name. It doesn’t change to service, this I will promise. The only reason they get a 1 star is you can’t do — a star.

I chose a sporty Mitsubishi Eclipse it had minor start problems but was a decent ride, didn’t look like a wreck, rents for $ 120/​wk only if you use it all week, it goes for $ 20/​day.

About 6 years ago I had to rent a 15 passenger at the last minute so I wasn’t too shocked by the low quality of the vehicles they have here. Even though the guy in the office gave us a quart of oil to take with us incase the engine leaked the van we got then did the job of getting me & my friends to Vegas & back home for the weekend.
Fast forward to March of 2015, I needed a rental for the week while my car was in the shop & foolishly I didn’t bother reserving a car online at a major rental chain & was S.O.L for a car. As a last resort I remembered this place & stopped in. They had 2 cars available. A newer modern nissa versa for $ 30 a day, & a piece of garbage 04 Nissan Sentra with a bunch of dents & dings. Being the cheap skate that I am I took the old beat up Sentra that I later found out after driving didn’t have lining on the driver side door so when it rained that week the entire driver side seat was soaked, the hood would start shake like it was going to pop open if you drove over 60 mph & the starter would take about 5 seconds to turn over & get the engine going.
Despite how crappy that car was & how bad the rest of the cars are (and I felt like this car might break down any second) I give this place 3 stars because I already knew what I was dealing with & the guy that worked at the front was helpful even though I rented the car early in the morning & couldn’t return it till the evening on Friday they didn’t charge me for an extra day.
Only rent from here if you’re in dire need of a car & don’t mind being laughed at by kids going past you in their school bus.

I rented a Uhaul online to be picked up and dropped off at this location. The attendant didn’t seem to have control over scheduling which meant I wasn’t getting my full 24 hours. I had to call uhaul myself and have them change the computer input and event still the attendant put up a fight with customer service. They just didn’t make the process efficient or provide much assistance.

Very helpful. Much better and cheaper option than a uhaul. It cost 35 dollars for a cargo van and you receive 100 miles free. Compare that to a uhaul where you pay 20 dollars and then pay by the mile which can very easily add up.

I love the idea of renting a beat-​up car when that’s exactly what I need — got a can that was perfect for my needs.

This company doesn’t even deserve one star! I have used their services a number of times, so I knew what to expect — I THOUGHT. I’m not complaining about the car — although the gear shift was just a very scary piece of metal! — I’m unhappy about their dishonesty and customer service.
First, I called to see if there were any cars available. I told the man who answered the phone that I wanted an economy model. I was told there were plenty. I arrived about a half hour later to find that there was exactly ONE! He said he would give me a deal — $ 20.00 a day. (It is interesting to note that I subsequently rented a car — BRAND NEW — at Enterprise for $ 22.99 a day. What a difference $ 3 makes!) Anyway, even though I have excellent insurance, I opted for the additional insurance that they offer @ $ 12 a day. He apprised me of the fact that despite the coverage, if I were in a car accident, I would also have to pop for the $ 500 deductible. (I’ve rented many cars and never ever heard of such a thing!) He also said — pointing to his little sign on the wall — that I had to pay for the car for two days. Okay. If I had had any other options, I would have walked out, but I signed on the dotted line.
Came back 24 hours later to return the car. I understood that I would be charged the additional $ 20, and I was fine with that; but he also insisted on charging me the $ 12 for the insurance. I tried to ask him how he could needed insurance on a car that I would not be driving, but he would not stop talking! He actually would not allow me to say anything, telling me he knew what I was going to say and didn’t need to hear it. I could not believe anyone would talk to a client this way! It was shocking. He further complained that he didn’t make any money on me. Was he kidding? He got an extra days rent on a car sitting in his lot. That’s extra money. The total came to $ 64 for one day!
Then when he gave me the credit card receipt to sign, I wanted to see the amount. I didn’t trust him. He immediately grabbed the receipt back and wouldn’t let me see it! I asked him «How much did you charge me?» several times, but he would not answer! It was unbelievable. At one point, he answered, «I will tell you when I am ready!» Who does this??? It looked like he was changing the amount. I wonder what I would have been charged had I not asked!
I was so upset, I called corporate to complain. In addition to the manner in which I was treated, I didn’t feel it was ethical for him to charge me the insurance. The gentleman I spoke to agreed, but basically said there was very little he could do. He said each owner could do what they want. Unbelievable! He said he contacted the owner, and that the owner should have contacted me; he did not. He — nor his employee –suffer any ill consequences for behaving anyway they want. I can’t believe that anyone would ever go back!
You go to franchises thinking that corporate cares how their brand is being represented. Not this corporation.

People who give a bad review because of the condition of the vehicles is like someone complaining about the quality of the food at Taco Bell. It is what it is, used decent cars at a little cheaper rate. Personally I rented a U-​Haul cargo van to pick up some furniture i bought off Craigslist. Vehicle was clean and ready to go when I got there. The man working the front counter and was very friendly and helpful.

Loved driving around LA in a 93 Toyota Carolla. Seriously! I love the concept of Rent a Wreck and it is cheaper if you do a 20 dollar option. The corolla had cold AC and drove great! Nice people too!

Can I rate this place minus stars? DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE. The cars are disgusting, they don’t look safe either. The grill was missing on the front of the car. I asked for an upgrade car because the first car they were going to give me was disgusting. The upgrade stunk like smoke, I told the manager I can’t use that car because I have allergies. He said he had no other car other than a van that he would not rent at the same rate. I told him I was not going to rent a car and then he told me he was going to charge me for two days because I reserved the car and they have a minimum of two day rental. I asked to show me on the website where it says I have to pay for reserving a car but he said he didn’t have Internet. For as long as i have been renting cars, I have never had to pay to reserve a car. He also wanted to put a hold of $ 300.00 on my credit card, which I’m sure the car is not even worth that much. 18.00 a day is not close to being worth it, you can get a safer and new car for the same price and sometimes even cheaper. You can only drive the car 100 miles and that is because it won’t go any further. They have a sign that says if the car breaks down after hours, then leave a message and they will get back to you the next day! Don’t waste your money here.

I was a afraid to make a reservation here and put my family in a unsafe car like the reviews here and other sites had on this place too. I had no choice last weekend and booked a mini-​van @ 45 vs 90+. So I hold my breath and walk in… Jay tells me «Good News!, the mini-​van is not available but I will give u a nine seater @ the same price!» He then worked with us about the debit card amount they put on hold and took my word for my situation! Genuine guy there! We did paper work and then walked to get the van to discover it was a VERY NICE unit. We rode in style (Great A/​C and MPG) for just under $ 150+gas for THREE DAYS and 448miles! The check-​in was PAINLESS with Merchant too! THANKS RentAWreck

STAY AWAY. These people rent death traps for maybe a dollar less than the big guys!

I dont mind renting an older car but the rates are not that great! Could get better on HOTWIRE or advance rentals from the BIG companies such as DOLLAR. The key was bent and didnt open all the doors. The Check Engine light was on which they stated was a «minor» thing. I got stopped by LAPD for a tail light AND ® blinker light. Do they say sorry? Do they compensate you for your inconvenience? RIP OFF!
