The Discovery House, a drug and alcohol addiction treatment center located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, utilizes a variety of treatment programs that allow each client to receive the individualized care they deserve. Our Southern California substance abuse rehab center offers a variety of inpatient residential and outpatient drug treatment programs to help drug addicts and alcoholics achieve and maintain sobriety. Each client at The Discovery House receives customized care to end their dependence on prescription drugs, heroin and other opiates and/​or alcohol in order to live a sober life.

The Discovery House is a Joint Commission-​accredited facility, which requires we meet the inspection and safety standards that are demanded of every U.S. hospital; fewer than six percent of all treatment centers in the country are so accredited. We are licensed by the State of California Department of Healthcare Services and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The Discovery House is also licensed with both the state and federal government to conduct drug tests. Each of our certifications and licenses ensures that we provide the highest quality of care to all of our clients.

History

Established in 2008.

The Discovery House was founded in 2008 for the purpose of helping individuals and their families recover from drug or alcohol addiction. Our beautifully landscaped homes were built from the ground up exclusively for the residential treatment of drug and alcohol addiction, making it easier for residents to commit to treatment in a private, home-​like environment.

The staff at The Discovery House understands the effects of addiction and believes that everyone has the opportunity to live a sober life with the help of the right treatment. Counselors are assigned no more than three residents at any one time. And we maintain expanded staff to ensure that our highly credentialed treatment team can deliver the highest level of care to our residents.

Today, I have serenity and peace thanks to TDH. My loved one was a patient here. This by far has been the hardest thing me and my family have endured. TDH and its staff are amazing. When our loved one was take in, we didn’t know what to expect; however, Melanie (councilor) was always keeping us up to date on everything. The staff and everyone was so nice; my family and I always felt welcome when we visited. Thanks to TDH my loved one is in recovery. I know that ultimately is ones responsibility to put in the work to stay sober, but I believe TDH empowered my family and I to better support our loved one in recovery. Thank you so much guys! Today I have one year clean and sober thanks to The Discovery House for guiding me and allowing me a safe and loving place to recover. TDH treated me like an adult and respected me. Usually rehabs don’t allow you to listen to music or go on outings to the beach to swim but TDH did, and that really helped me learn how to LIVE sober. My insurance was running out and the owner even sponsored me and let me stay an extra month for free! She only did that because I was taking advantage of all the opportunities there to learn and grow.
I am celebrating with many of my friends I met there, that are also now celebrating their one year clean and sober. That is absolutely amazing! I still feel so blessed and changed by TDH. I will always remember it as start of my brand new life.
Some of the reviews on here are not very nice and you can see that some people blame everyone else for there problems. But honestly you can always find people you don’t like everywhere u go. I went there for me. not to make friends. even though I ended up making quite a few good friendships. You just have to find the people you feel comfortable with to talk to and communicate your needs maturely and be assertive. It’s a life or death situation. Plus, it’s good to learn how to be around different personalities… that’s life!
So I do HIGHLY recommend The Discovery House. if you are ready and serious about making a change in your life… I mean CHANGE because NOTHING will ever be the same again. If nothing changes, nothing changes. Get ready for the brand new YOU!

Discovery House is a great treatment center for anyone. I was very reluctant and nervous to come to treatment and the second I got off the plane I felt welcomed. There is staff available for you 24⁄7 to help you get though any difficult times and deeply care about all clients. I have made very close relationships with a number of staff members and I know they will always be there for me. The support group I was able to build through The Discovery House is non-​comparable to any other type of support group I’ve ever had. If you would have told me 3 months ago I was going to be sober today, I would have thought you were crazy. Thanks to The Discovery House, I am well on my way to a happy and healthy life that I could never have begun to imagine. The owners of the program, Tom and McKay, truly care about the well being of all the patients and will do whatever they can to accommodate your needs. They have built beautiful homes for us that are better than a standard facility due to the homey feeling. One of my favorite aspects of The Discovery House is that I never felt like I was institutionalized, just at a different home than my own getting better. The program director, David, also is very caring and is 100% there to make the clients stay more comfortable to whatever degree. He has helped me out on many occasions when I was struggling with whatever I was facing, as well as many other clients. He puts together weekly outings for the clients just so they can go out and enjoy themselves and each others company. The Discovery House really has changed my life, and for that I will be forever grateful of the facility and the staff members.

I discharged from TDH in June. I was very pleased with the professionalism of staff and the integrity of the program. I’ve been to multiple treatment facilities over the past 10 years and TDH is by far the best! The food and chef’s were amazing, the respect from staff is beyond what I imagined. The program taught me to live a normal heathy life and to live responsibly while treating others and myself with respect. The the staff were always available to counsel and to be helpful even with chores. The TDH helped me get my life back and live free from the addiction that centered my life. Id without a doubt recommend TDH to anyone that needs inpatient treatment and would like a safe place to gentility guide them back on track. TDH saved my life and I 100% satisfied with the treatment I saw and was given.

Like any program your treatment is what you make of it. First thing I learned was the problem wasn’t everyone else, it was me.

I entered the Discovery House in complete need of help. I was in desperation, it was life or death. I was warmly welcomed by staff and treated with respect and dignity during my detox. After my detox things got completely weird. I was pulled out of a group and told they went through my phone and found inappropriate texts and photos while I was in group. I was very angry as I didn’t sign anything that stated that they could go through very personal information on my cell phone. The Director David DeQua then became extremely aggressive with me, and basically tried to intimidate me. I received my cell phone back and was allowed to put a lock on it. I contacted the BBB and ADP about the incident and when The Discovery House was informed I did this. The owner McKay came in as soon as I woke up and discharged me for contacting these agencies which is absolutely illegal. David DeQua the director has offended clients, used intimidation tactics and became aggressive with clients when he didn’t like something. David will use intimidation tactics to try to keep you in the facility because he receives a commission of 5% off each client who is there. I’m extremely disappointed with TDH’s policies, they tap and record your phone calls, there are cameras all over the facility, they also have a program called mango where staff can input their opinion of clients that clients do not have access too. Even staff members have called it the «wrath of David». If you want to go to a treatment center where the director who makes all the final calls uses intimidation tactics and brings you into his office and verbally abuses you then this is the place for you. Other than David completely ruining the therapeutic atmosphere of rehab, the other staff are great. But, they are intimidated by him too. So BEWARE this is not a good treatment center. If your looking for a great treatment experience I would recommend Passages Malibu, Spencer Recovery Centers, or Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach.

I can not say enough good things about The Discovery House, so I will narrow it down to a few. I have been to a few treatment centers and while all claim to be able to integrate you back into society and the real world, TDH actually has a program in place to do so. The staff genuinely cares about the clients and are always available. The facility is clean, comfortable, and modern. The program set in place for addicts and alcoholics to rehabilitate there lives are unparalleled and have helped restore me to sanity. I truly owe my life to this place.
