North Point Sunoco

I have been to North Point Sunoco many times for oil changes and inspections on our four cars. Can’t blame them for trying, but more times than not, they tell me repairs are needed on our cars and then proceed to quote high prices for doing the work. I save a significant amount of money by going to my favorite repair shop, Dranesville Auto. There have been a few cases where the second opinion resulted in the repairs not being needed.
My car recently failed inspection at North Point Sunoco because of hazy headlight lenses. North Point Sunoco charges $ 188 to clean the lenses. Dranesville Auto charges $ 60. I purchased Meguiar’s Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit at Advanced Auto for $ 30, and cleaned the lenses on three cars in about an hour. They look like new.
If you want to get your repairs done immediately and aren’t bothered by high prices, then N. Point Sunoco might be the answer. But if you want a better price or want to verify that the work actually needs to be done, I would suggest a second opinion.

These guys are go out of their way to ensure that you are a happy customer. They are honest and straight-​forward. They take the time to explain what is happening with your car and want to ensure that you keep coming back.

Took my car to get the third break light bulbs replaced (there were 5 bulbs, 3 burned out) I was told to drop by anytime because it would only take 5 minutes. Well, it took 30 minutes because the tech was taking to another person while he was supposed to be working on my car, and I was charged for that time. Then he told me all 5 were burned out, when I knew there were only 3 burned out. I was charged $ 21 dollars for labor to change 6 dollar light bulbs. So $ 29.10 to change tiny light bulbs which YouTube showed could be done in under 3 minutes with no tools. I only went here because I could not find out what type of bulb my car took, otherwise I would I have done it myself.

I love this Place. Andrew and Hector are both great guys. They are honest and dependable. They have very good, experienced technicians working at this shop. They are polite and always have smiles on their faces. This is the place to take your car to have it fixed!!!

I have to take my car here to have it inspected. The last time I take my car in they rejected the safety inspection. They said my SRS light was on but it was not on when I took the car in for inspection. I’m not sure what they did to it but it did not pass inspection. Now I have a new problem trying to get my car inspected because I need to have a SRS light fixed which they created. They said they did nothing but it will cost me hundreds of dollars to have it fixed. I will not have my car inspected here ever again.

I’ve been going there for 10 yrs. Great, friendly and fair. Another place told me that I needed an $ 800 brake job and the Northpoint guys came over (3 miles) to look at my car and told me that my brakes were fine.

These guys saved the day!!! I was driving down 7 in the construction zone and got a flat. I pulled off and opened Unilocal to find a service station and this one came up. I called and they said they could send someone. The repair guy was there in under 10 minutes and had the doughnut tire on it in no time. They didn’t have my full size tire in stock but could order it. I was going out of town and couldn’t wait for a new one. I asked what i owed for the service call. The manager said it’s on the house just come back again. With service and a friendly attitude like that I’ll drive the 10 miles to get my car serviced there regularly. Thank you!

It’s a gas station and they were not out of gas, nor did I have to wait to pump gas. I rarely agree with energy costs, and that’s not necessarily this station’s fault, but I paid it, I filled up, and I left. Kind of hard to write a review on a gas station, unless you’re having service done there, and that wasn’t the mission on this trip.

I have never been here for service or gas and now I never will. At 7:55 on the night after Thanksgiving, someone from this service station BANGED on our front door, convincing me that something was wrong. When my husband opened the door, someone from this station tried to sell us something.
Inappropriate at the best of times, scary, and sketchy since we live on the exact opposite side of Reston.

I moved to Reston from Los Angeles one year ago and it is difficult to find trustworthy doctors, dentists and mechanic wherever you go. I’ve yet to find a doctor but as far as my automotive needs are concerned I’m coming here. First off Hector met me and was very helpful. My car had broken down at the Boston Market up the street within the same mall. Tyrone, another mechanic at the shop went up with a charging box and started my vehicle so that I could drive it to the shop. I thought for sure that the problem was my alternator because I had already replaced the battery. The job was going to cost me easily over $ 400! I went to work and received a call from Andrew, the Manager around lunch time. Andrew was very professional, polite and helpful. Andrew told me that the only problem was that the battery cables were lose and that the battery, alternator and everything else was working just fine! My bill was then $ 51.50 plus a little more because some small lights needed to be replaced. Such honesty in today’s world is rare and I am so grateful to them for placing a newfound hope in a mechanic. Special thanks go out to Gustavo who actually worked on my vehicle as well. If you need auto advice and/​or repairs you cannot go wrong with Andrew, Hector, Tyrone or Gustavo! I highly recommend them! Thanks for reading my review.

The place is clean and at night it is lit up pretty well. The gas on the other hand can be on the pricy side. Also, key point of fact: This location doesn’t carry any alcohol.

Tremendous customer service! On my second to last visit, I brought my car in for replacement of the brakes, and Andrew (service manager) looked at it and told me (although he would like my business) my brakes still had life left and did not yet need to be replaced. An honest evaluation that some other service stations might not provide.
Today, I needed my battery replaced and Andrew and his team accomodated me quickly so that I could take my daughter to camp on time.
I have been a customer of North Point Sunoco for a number of years and have consistently received a high level of service.

I have an outstanding personal relationship with the manger Andrew. He is one of the nicest and most trust worthy people you will ever meet. When you take your car to North Point Sunoco you can assure that Andrew will be professional and reasonable estimate for repair.

BEWARE! My dad brought his lexus in to get a engine light taken a look at. Looks as if it needed a new mass air flow sensor. My dad knows nothing about cars. Fortunately i do and happen to work for Carfax and am in constant communication with dealers and service shops. These guys not only over charged him $ 200 for a $ 50 sensor but also charged him labor for the part. Be careful when working with service shops. 2 and a half hours for a induction service and new sensor. Come on guys that takes an hour and a half if your moving as slow as you can.

I went to North Point Sunoco for an oil change and was impressed by the place. Sitting outside, I observed mechanics walking around with clip pads and haven’t seen that before. It’s good to have a well run service center in the community and everyone seemed to be smiling and have a spring in their steps.

Mechanics, like hair stylists and dentists, are people that I like to have a solid, long-​term relationship with.
North Point Sunoco has had my business since I moved to the Reston area about eight years ago. I buy almost all of my gas there and they are my station for service. All in all, service has been very good.
Oil changes are convenient. I live close enough to the station that I can drop off the car in the morning and pick it up in the evening after work. I usually get a call around mid-​morning to tell me that the service has been complete. The station also sends a reminder for oil changes that includes a coupon for the service. They also note service that I should consider – not required, but things I need to keep an eye on.
I did have one accounting issue come up. Because I picked up the car after the service department had closed, I wasn’t able to get it taken care of on the spot. I had expected some hassle and push back, but when I called the next morning, Ken (the manager) took a look at my record and immediately took care of things. Because of that responsiveness and the excellent service to my cars over the years, I can’t imagine looking for another mechanic.
I believe that you can now schedule your service appointments online. I haven’t done that yet, but it sounds like it could be a good feature.

This gas station is very convenient as it’s across the street from my apartment. I’ve had mixed reviews about the mechanics here. I’ve brought my car here for inspection and oil changes and they’ve been very helpful there. However, I called them to make an appointment for an oil change and it didn’t even sound like the guy checked the appointment book. He sounded like he just wanted to get me off the phone.
The staff in the convenience area of the gas station is usually very friendly. There is this one guy who tries to have very odd conversations with me about whatever I buy in there. However, I think he’s usually there pretty late at night. I haven’t seen him recently. Anyway, other than that one creepy guy, and the rude mechanice, I’d say this was a pretty good place.

Liars and law breakers.
After failing to return a damaged part from my car for which I asked (this is illegal), they did hundreds of dollars’ worth of unauthorized work and then lied to me about a part my car didn’t need.
To be avoided.

Do not use North Point Sunoco for your repairs or service needs. Last December I brought my Pontiac Grand Am to North Point Sunoco in Reston for a safety inspection and emissions test. The vehicle passed the emissions test but failed the safety test, according to the inspector who examined the car. The reasons it failed were blown rack seals on the steering rack, which according to the inspector was a lack of power steering fluid, the inability to remove the right front lug nut and stud and a right front outer tie rod that has «worn play.»
I was told by the sales manager that my car was a «safety hazard» and if I did not do the repairs immediately that I was likely to be spotted by a police officer and given a ticket that costs more than $ 1000. I believe that this is deception, if not potentially outright fraud. Feeling nervous and threatened, I consented to the repairs, which cost almost $ 1500. The sales manager did not tell me that I had 15 days plus the day of inspection to make necessary repairs to my vehicle. He said that «some people have wanted to wait a day or two before making repairs but then they got caught by the cops and had to pay the fine.»
Later that day, after the repairs were done, I learned from the Virginia State Police website that I had 15 days plus the day of inspection to make necessary repairs to my vehicle. After consulting with the state police by telephone, I was told the reasons my vehicle failed did not constitute an emergency. I would not have been ticketed for not having enough power steering fluid.
If I had known that I had 15 days to drive my car with a rejection sticker and not get ticketed for it, there is no way I would have consented to the very first offer of service I received, at a high price to begin with. I have no idea if North Point Sunoco actually worked on my car for 6 hours as they claimed, but regardless, I would have shopped around. It is not good business practice to try and make sales under duress.
I believe that North Point Sunoco practiced deception and it is my recommendation that you find another place for service.

These guys have been pretty good to me so far. The oil changes are cheap and quick and I’ve also found that other work has come in lower than the quoted estimates.
When I was tire shopping for my wife the guys even advised me that I should just buy it online and have them do the labor since that would save me money.
I think I’m about to bring a car in for a more major job and I’ll update my review based on that outcome. Until now I’ve just been doing pretty minor things.
