Established in 2010.

As a high school junior growing up in the suburbs of Washington D.C., Joel Holland started shooting video clips of the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and other D.C. landmarks, and burning them on DVDs that he sold on eBay. His customers were wedding video producers and others who needed background shots for their films.

Today Holland’s company, Video Blocks, is a leading online stock footage vendor. Based in Reston, Virginia, Video Blocks hires freelance videographers to shoot original clips that the company owns.

Unlike traditional stock companies, which typically charge high fees to license individual clips, Video Blocks customers can download unlimited clips and digital effects in exchange for a monthly subscription of $ 79.

«I shot the sights and scenes that any editor worldwide would want to pop into a video about Washington,» Holland recalls.

After graduating from high school, Holland deferred admission to Babson College’s entrepreneurship program for a year in order to run his video business full time. Today, the Video Blocks offers unlimited access to over 100,000 stock media elements with a team of 20 professionals looking to support the company’s thousands of customers.

Spammers! — Got ¾ way through signing up for a trial. Caught myself and read the reviews before proceeding. Decided not to complete trial based on the reviews. Now I have been getting bombarded with spam email from them once a day. Have unsubscribed 7 times, and called once and was assured my email would be removed. A week later I am still getting bombarded with spam emails. Only wish I had found these reviews before starting the subscription process.

I am glad I read this reviews before I even try the Free Trial. I think the new customer service person they hire to monitor this site will have a lot of cleaning to do from the bad rep. this company is getting.

The worst — user unfriendly, and deploys every means possible to prevent successful free-​trial cancelation.
I canceled after a day usage — or so I thought. But when I was charged a week later, looking back I couldn’t find a confirmation email. So I chalked it up to my mistake and tried to cancel again. But my log in didn’t work and when I tried calling, I got an answering machine (yeah — a machine!), and no return call. Few days later I tried again, and couldn’t even log on! When requested my pw resent, got an «internal error» message. Guess I did unsubscribe! What the frak!!! Going straight to BBB!

What an absolutely great service! When I need a motion background or a piece of beach I know just where to go. I don’t always have the time to go out and shoot my own little pieces. Video Blocks, Audio Blocks and Graphic Stock sites are excellent. Saves me time and then in the long run saves me money.
To those of you unhappy with your free trial. Please remember it is a free TRIAL. It goes for only so long. Gives you the opportunity to try grabbing a piece or two to see the way it works and the quality. I have never had any trouble with quality. Perhaps it is not best to try and get as much from a free trial as you can, but instead, test the waters?

I had signed up for the free trial and cancelled it with no hassle after 6 days. A couple months later I needed it again so I signed up for a year and have been happy with the content overall. Some of the files download with funky names so it can be difficult to keep track if you are downloading multiple files, but that is really the biggest user beef I have.
Those complaining… If you go past a trial period, you are no longer on a trial period and they can legally charge you for what you signed up for. I agree they should respect your wish to cancel just to protect their name, but they technically have you. Just like fighting overdraft fees, late fees… They legally have you, it just depends on the relationship and reputation they want. Moral of the story… if you you are going to cancel, cancel WITHIN the TRIAL period.

The reviewers posting for videoblocks must be special needs or something. It’s all very plain as day. You sign up for a trial and if you do not cancel within designated time frame you will be charged. Have they never used an online subscription service before?
I have signed up and cancelled with 2 credit cards and accounts and also have had friends who have done the same. I also have a recurring subscription I pay for.
I wonder if these bad reviewers sign up for Amazon Prime and then get angry when it re-​ups a year later. :)
I like the service and have had nothing but a positive experience.

DO NOT TRUST THESE CROOKS!
I don’t even need to say it because everyone else has had the same problem I had. They use shady business practices by enticing you to sign up for a free trial. They lie to you and say they aren’t going to charge your credit card when they do. They hide extremely crucial information in the fine print.
Plus lets face it, an F rating at the BBB. Ouch.
And their stock footage kind of sucks anyway. A lot of it is standard definition and horribly interlaced. Don’t trust them.

I was lured to Videoblocks by an offer for a 7-​day free trial with unlimited downloads. Turns out, «unlimited» = 20 (or maybe it was less, I can’t recall). Anyhow, almost as if by design, I forgot about the trial and missed the cut-​off time to cancel my membership before billing commenced. That much, I own up to.
Seeing as how they got me for the monthly subscription, I started downloading. Music, video, animations & effects. By far the most useful items were a couple of music tracks. The video quality is sub-​par, at best. Clearly, there are no standards in place for submitting content to video blocks, because the compression is the worst I’ve seen for «HD» content from any stock footage source to date. There are specks of dirt on lens for entire collections of footage. Image sequences being passed for time-​lapse ‘footage’, and questionable focus and exposure across many different clips I’ve downloaded at the highest-​available resolution. Even the RED 2k and 4k content is amateurish.
There is no ability (that I have found) to select multiple clips to add them to a cart, save for favoriting things to download later. It’s all done one-​by-​each, requiring multiple clicks to download, and lots of using the BACK button in your browser. Lastly, there is no way to tell if you’ve already downloaded something or not. This would be very helpful.
All told, I have to say your money is better spent with some of the other stock footage /​audio outlets. If video quality is important to you, look elsewhere. Don’t fall for the free trial unless you’re OK with interface and quality shortcomings.

Totally unacceptable, sleazy business. You get a 7-​day free trial, which is awesome! Until after those seven days when they *automatically* and *without notifying you* in any way start charging you $ 79 monthly. I wish I had looked on Unilocal before using this so-​called «service.» I would have seen the others who have been scammed. It’s not so much the fact that I have now lost $ 237 to this scam that I am speaking out, but thay I cannot support sleazy business tactics like this beçause others are getting scammed, and there are other good, honest businesses out there.

Yes, they could very well have good reviews and I was ready to pay them voluntarily. But honesty is not their business model. They have their money not from selling the video, but from a trap arranged on their website …

Careful of this company. Their whole business model seems to revolve around offering a 7 day free trail and if you go over just a bit, they got your money. There are more honest stock footage companies with better product. I would strongly suggest you not use VideoBlocks. I contacted them and they weren’t interested in hearing my story. They don’t seem to be interested in having happy customers.
Also, with the 20 clip per day trial, many of the downloads were corrupted. Again, there are better services.

So after a phone call, a Unilocal review, a complaint filed with the BBB, and several drawn out e-​mails I have gotten a refund. So I am giving you another star for «I’ve experienced better» because I am not confident this won’t happen again to fellow peers. I was charged by
automatically with no notification for two months after a 7 day free trial expired. Why was I charged without notification? Because I downloaded videos during the free trial period and not after. There is no sense in it. I contacted the blog that e-​mailed the «free trial» offer to make sure they knew what was happening. They responded by forwarding me an e-​mail from the owner of the
explaining that they where being taken advantage of some ions ago, and need to charge me in return to make up for it. There was not apology for the charge just a «I hope we are headed in the right direction» from someone further up the chain.
is still very textbook corporate, and needing some good ol fashioned common sense. I will give you another star if I receive an e-​mail with an updated terms and conditions that includes notifications after the 7 day trial offer, and upfront pro-​rated refunds.

Horrible customer service! Very deceptive «Free Trial» offer. The footage isn’t even that good. They have a lot of garbage in their «over 30,000 downloads.» Don’t use this company they don’t care about the customers and they are very sneaky and greedy. They say «Guaranteed» in there ad, well that is false advertising and they should be shut down.

They have a deceptive «Free Trial» offer and while the terms are stated in advance, the offer is very short and your credit card gets charged for a subscription very quickly.
Very poor marketing tactics and even poorer customer service. Stay away!
