La Mirada

When I moved to La Mirada Apartments, I had a vague idea of what I was getting myself into. And to put it quite simply: you get what you pay for.
That said, my $ 860,1,200 square foor apartments with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths has it’s problems.
Parking does suck. We managed to finagle our way into getting 4 parking passes for my aparment and 3 for D’s townhouse. He lives there as well. We have no problem with parking but we can pretty much never have visitors. The towing has died down from it’s sharky viciousness ever since Lone Star Towing’s permit was suspended.
Safety hasn’t been too big of an issue. True, shady looking teenagers walk around once in a while. However, there is a 24 hour guard now and they are actually very strict with the 10 o’clock curfew. There’s definitely some shadiness going on but I wouldn’t say we live in the slums. There are way too many families to let that happen.
My apartment is old. The model apartment that suckered us in looks nothing like what we got. Our walls are that icky 70’s era textured kind and we have bugs. We’ve sprayed, laid out traps but they come from everywhere. Maintenance is usually pretty fast but I’m pretty sure we have mold and they still haven’t done anything about it.
The office staff is rude. My Caucasian roommates were convinced that maybe the staff was racist towards them but I went in (I’m Hispanic, btw.) and they treated me just as terribly. Of course, it does help that they can’t converse about me in Spanish and think I don’t understand.
The other weird thing is the mail. The mail doesn’t ever arrive to us on time. Sometimes, it can takes months. I’m convinced there’s some portal eating our mail out there.
The apartments are a diverse and ethnic mix of loud people, traditional Hispanics (loud Tejano music, working on their cars outside, and kids who run around like crazy. However, if you are a struggling college student or someone who isn’t picky or is a tough guy or gal (read: not a Dallas snob); you can deal with it. I paid $ 260 for my portion of rent and that’s the cheapest I’ve ever paid for any apartment in my life. Reiterate: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. However, the townhomes aren’t bad. They’re very spacious and better kept than the apartments. Also, the neighbors on that side of the complex are friendly and watch out for each other. D and his roommates haven’t had any big complaints aside from parking and the occasional shady incident.
I wouldn’t live there again but it hasn’t been as terrible as I thought. If there were less bugs and better parking, I could even suck it up if I had to. Cheap living with a different kind of price, ya know, not the financial kind.

My apartments suck. According to the city’s monthly newsletter, it seems I live where crime and theft are very abundant. Yeah, just look up zip code 75 080, very shady for a suburb. People that live under us smoke and sell weed. I can smell it on the weekends as I walk up the stairs to my apt. Just tonight after my roommate and I did some grocery shopping, we pull up to park and we see several hoodlums going up to a car for a quick transaction. How very inconspicuous.
Where the heck are the recently hired security guards? Good job on hiring an attentive security agency, La Mirada Apartments! ²⁴⁄₇ my butt. At least Richardson’s police officers drive by and post up every once and awhile.
Then there’s the issue of blaring music from cars that are adorned crudely and are needlessly ostentatious. Seriously, just because you (the apparently deaf and tasteless) like that kind of music doesn’t mean I like it. When I can feel the bass inside my apartment and the pictures on the walls are vibrating, it’s too damn loud! Your car wasn’t engineered to be a THX sound stage. I guess this isn’t so much an issue about the apartments, but more about inconsiderate residents.
Another issue is parking; two parking stickers per apartment. Uhh, what about the people in one bedroom apartments; they get an extra sticker? (Assuming they have one car because of our shabby area.) What about us three bedroom renters with three lease signers? We get gypped. WTF?!? Why do I complain about this? Visitor parking gets full by 6pm! If you park anywhere else without a sticker, they tow immediately. Yes, you get the chance of getting your own car towed away if you live here! Getting your car out of tow isn’t cheap.
Damn you Lonestar Towing.
Based on these reports, I don’t understand why La Mirada would want to have a contract with an unscrupulous company.
I’m so glad that my lease is about to be up.
