Midas / SpeeDee Oil Change

I started using this Midas about 6 years ago for my Nissan’s regular oil changes. I always enjoyed them because the individual at the desk was friendly, the mechanics completed the task in a timely manner, and overall — they didn’t try to sell me on extra services to be done. I would always get their breakdown of the visual inspection completed and on occasion, the gentleman at the desk would review the «urgent» items I needed to make note of. The last time I took my Nissan to them was in early 2014 and I left feeling slightly disappointed with them. I had never seen the gentleman working the desk prior to that day, I waited for much longer than usual for my regular oil change (1 gentleman was ahead of me, 2 cars were in the garage when I arrived, and more than 1 mechanic was on-​hand), and when they finally finished w/​my vehicle, it was basically a buh-​bye after I paid, with no inkling of interest to review anything about my car.
Fast forward to the early part of 2015 when I needed a oil change for my current vehicle. After my last visit to them, I was hesitant to return, but after a DB mechanic at a different shop tried to up-​sell me, I decided to just stop by Midas «one last time.» I was pleasantly surprised to go in and find Charles back at the shop, and his return may be what makes this Midas a 5-​star in my book! Charles went over everything with me as a part of their visual inspection, and he didn’t try to sell me any additional services. I was out of there in a timely manner, just like the ‘ol days when I first started going to them. What made the service so great that day was the fact that even after nearly 2 years of not being a customer, Charles remembered my husband and I! I went back during the summer to have them rotate the tires on my husband’s vehicle, and they managed to get me out of there in record time despite having a busy shop that day. I will continue going back as long as Charles and individuals like him are working because that’s the type of customer service you want when it comes to people dealing with your vehicle.

I purchased a car from Courtesy and my purchasing experience was fine. Months, thereafter, I noticed some damage due to some previous body work done to the car. I was provided a loaner and my car was fixed. Months, thereafter, the same thing began to happen, again. I was placed in John McSpaddin’s care and I must say he is the best. John not only ensured that I was provided a loaner, but he stood by the job until it was handled correctly and went BEYOND the call of duty to ensure that I was a satisfied customer. One simple example of that is this: While they had my car my registration sticker had expired. With the new Texas law, I had to have my car inspected. John ensured it was handled at the lot for me and faxed the paperwork to the tax office for me. :-)
I’ve read some reviews that John has responded to. Please know that this is a great place to purchase a car. If, for any reason, you experience any issues — CALL AND ASK FOR JOHN!

Refused to inspect a 1993 Ford. Asked for a price on tires for a 2003 Focus. Said they would call us. They never did. I have spent thousands of dollars with Midas over the years, but now they do not want my business.

Took my dad’s car here for its inspection since he doesn’t have time. I called ahead to make sure someone was there today to do it. Tony was really nice and helpful on the phone and I stopped in a bit after to drop it off while I ran errands with my sister. He said he would call if any red flags came up that would keep it from passing. I went back later to get it and dropped my sister’s car off for an oil change. We went back 30 minutes later to pick it up and he told her she needed $ 2700 worth of services (fluid changes for the winter weather, her tires were cupping). It might have been legit, but she didn’t get any of it and I won’t hold it against him. Overall he was polite and got both of our cars done quickly. He also explained how the inspection process will work as of next year just to warn me. I don’t live in the area but I would use him again for other standard services if I needed to.

May all of your lovers be as «SpeeDee» as their oil changes. I was asked if I was advised that it would be upwards of 1.5 hours for my service appointment when I made the appointment. I replied no, but consider me so advised. Two hours later I inquired about the status & was told yes your car is ready, you need an air filter… that will take a half an hour longer. (In SpeeDee time I had already learned that was not actual time so I declined.). It took another 15 minutes for the check out process.

Took my car to place close to home get state inspection and they told me there was «moisture» in the brake fluid so it needed flushed out/​changed and that my front brake pads were low and offered to fix everything. The verbal story sounded more critical than what they wrote on their report. I thanked them and said I would discuss with my husband since I wasn’t experiencing any issues with brakes.
Next day I took to Midas in Richardson where they did a complete brake inspection and told me there was nothing wrong with the brake fluid and that front/​rear pads were over 50%. No charge for their inspection and no need for brake work.
Have used this location several times — going somewhere closer to home for state inspection sounded like a good idea… should have started here! They have always done a great job for us.

Con artists. I had a Groupon for an oil change. After a two hour wait (with 2 other customers inside), I was brought to the front desk and told about the array of expensive fixes my car would need. All four of my tires had low tread, my fuel pump was leaking, my windshield wipers needed to be replaced, etc.
I’m 8 months pregnant, and Midas told me without these repairs the car wouldn’t be safe for myself and my baby.
I had just bought 4 new tires the week before and had my car inspected by the Ford dealership for my 100,000 mile maintenance check. It is impossible my tires had low tread or my fuel pump was leaking. I showed the man at Midas my Ford checkup results, and I told him I wanted something in writing that I could take back to Ford. He mumbled something about the fixes being ‘options’ for ‘preventitive’ issues and weren’t really necessary at the moment.
Just to be sure, I went back to Ford and told them the issues Midas claimed. The service guy was really nice and showed me inside the car each item they’d mentioned and why it was in perfect condition. I’m furious Midas tried to use my baby’s health to try and scare me into $ 1,500 worth of false repairs. I would never come back here.

I needed a 3″ donut exhaust gasket and was having a hard time locating one. I called up Midas as a hail mary and Tony answered.
«I need a 3» donut exhaust gasket. Preferably one that’s flat on one side and beveled on the other. Do you even have gaskets that big?“
Tony: «Yeah, I think I have something that big. Let me go check.»
He goes back and measures with a tape measure, «Yeah, I got one that sounds like it will work.
„Great, I’ll come by in a minute.“
So I go up there and Tony is running the front counter and can’t take me to look at the gasket until he clears the people waiting at the counter. People are coming in left and right. I noticed one with a Groupon. One of the customers said, „My car has 121 thousand miles on it, it probably needs the high mileage oil, right?“
Tony: „This Groupon will knock $ 17 off this price.“
The lady: „Is the regular oil good?“
Tony: „Sure. It’s just fine.“
The lady: „Okay, we’ll just get the regular oil then.“
She was ready to spend more money on the high mileage oil and Tony didn’t take the opportunity to take her money with a higher profit item. I thought that was great and I respect that.
He finally cleared the customers from the front counter and took me to the back to look at the gaskets. He shows me the one he had looked at and I measured it. It wasn’t the 3» I was hoping as it came to 2.83″.
«You don’t believe me?» Tony says.
It’s not that I didn’t believe him, I just needed to see it for myself and well, truth be told, it wasn’t the size I was looking for.
«I need it to fit a 2.98″ pipe, if it’s not 2.98 or larger, it’s not going to fit.»
Tony: «Why don’t you take it and see if it works?»
Me: «Okay, I’ll have to see if I can expand it to fit. What do I owe you?»
Tony: «Just send me some business.»

I brought my car here for a state inspection and had a good experience. There’s not much to this place, but the people were friendly and had bottled water, free wifi, and a slew of magazines. Really, no different than any other car service place. But for a state inspection on a Saturday afternoon, this place was just fine.

This place really needs an updated review!
I took my car in on Saturday for an oil change and tire rotation. They gave me a great deal and took wonderful care of me. Many places I have been in the past will give you that «you’re a girl so let me see what I can get you to agree to» attitude. I did not get that here. They treated me kindly and with respect, explaining anything they thought there was a problem with, but did not pressure me at all into buying parts or service from them.
The waiting room looks recently re-​done. It’s awesome! There’s lots of chairs, it was very cool and clean. There’s also a TV that they leave the remote out for you. No longer am I stuck at a service place watching Judge Judy (unless I chose to!). They also offered free cold drinks and coffee.
The service guy Alex that I dealt with was just the nicest most helpful person I’ve ever experienced at a car place. I know it was just an oil change but I will definitely be back!

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! They have no clue what they are doing and do NOT know how to fix problems!
I brought in my car since the engine was making a slight squeaking noise and after looking at it, they said both my tensioner and pulley need to be replaced… at the cost of $ 1,070.00!
After taking it to another mechanic for a second opinion, he informed me that my make and model of my doesn’t even have a belt tensioner and is easily fixed by tightening a bolt!
Midas MADE UP a part on my car that doesn’t exist then tried to charge me for it… they should be ashamed of themselves…

An honest, competent shop, based on my few visits. Has assessed what needed fixing with a free inspection, but no pressure to sell me services.
Usually not busy, so getting in for service has been easy, even as a drop-​in.
But I’ve experienced better: the service manager isn’t a warm, engaging fellow. Kinda all business, which left me feeling my business was, well, almost an imposition. No comfortable waiting area. And while what I have had done was fair in cost compared to other places, a few things I passed on were quite expensive (like almost twice the cost of Wal-​Mart auto service).
