Pappy’s Pet Lodge

Okay, so the employees here are truly amazing but this place is just not meant for cats. Here’s why:
1: Their «cozy cattery» honestly feels like an isolation room for human prisoners. It’s not cat friendly in the least. It’s like they reserved their broom closet for the cats. No bueno. And there isn’t even a window where my cats could look out of! I know there is this perception that all cats do is sleep all day but that is furthest from the truth! Yes, they sleep a lot but they also enjoy watching birds and playing with strings — none of which they were able to do. They were stuck in this windowless room all day. –_​–
2: A cat’s world is vertical. They LOVE climbing and prefer to scope out their territory from a high vantage point. There were no cat superhighways anywhere, which was very disappointing. The only vertical space available for them were the cubicles (which, are quite spacious but I would not want them cooped up in that all day).
3: It was super SUPER noisy! I get it, it’s a dog’s daycare and cats are second-​class citizens here but if you’re going to have a space for cats at least make it noise-​proof as possible. Cats get stressed out very easily in places they don’t know so add all the commotion of the barking/​whining dogs and we have really upset felines. The room the cats are in has a door but it doesn’t at all cut the noise much.
All in all, I would come back BUT ONLY if I had to and had no time to drive to Cat Connection. PPL is closest to my office which is why I chose it but I will definitely have to pick a daycare/​boarding facility that caters to cats only.
The price was also very reasonable. I dropped off my two cats around 8 AM and picked them up around 3 PM and was charged only $ 19. Really, my only gripe is that this place is not very cat-​friendly. Otherwise, they are wonderful for dogs! All the dogs I saw leaving this place had wagging tails.

I was nervous to leave my dogs for day care since they have never been before and especially Pixie because she is 6 years old with no boarding experience (and very anxious around other dogs/​people). However, from the moment I dropped them off to picking them up I felt reassured and encouraged by the staff. I was able to watch my dogs throughout the day on the webcam. They also gave me a great progress report about the day and how it went/​who they played with. I peeked in (or maybe stalked) on the web cam quite a bit throughout the day and didn’t notice a lot of human interaction (besides coming in to clean up mess). However, I did not get to see when they were outside or during nap time. So there may have been more interaction during those times. Overall, it was a great experience for our first time with Pappy’s. I loved the vibe I received from the staff at drop off and pick up.
Also, I was surprised to find out when I picked them up that the first visit was complimentary. Bonus!

I, in good conscience, can not bring my dog here. I reviewed the website and loved it and decided to check the place out. I loved the services and training they offer, but that quickly changed. This may be my first review when I didn’t actually try the location. Before checking the place out I decided to watch the Web cams to see the space the dogs play. I had no idea what was in store for me. There was a tall, heavy set man in the room. He was just walking around through the dogs, not interacting with them. No biggie, though playing with them would be nice. Then all the sudden I noticed he was using the water spray on the dogs for no reason. Dogs scurried away and he just kept doing it. No rhyme or reason. I’ve only seen water used as a way to keep the dogs back or help gain control. This seemed like it was almost malicious. Then my mind was blown when I watched him grab a black dog that wasn’t doing anything, and put him on his side. Then reached back and popped him on the butt. Didn’t look like a hard hit though. When the dog tried to get up the man put him back down with his foot. The man then cleaned the room (that’s a plus) and left. I was concerned and kept watching. Later both him and a female were in the room. The girl played with the dogs and pet them. I do want to add that the male did kick some balls around when he was in there. I called the location and told the assistant manager what happened. She thought it might have been his own dog (rottweiler) but I let her know it wasn’t the rottweiler. I do not know what course of action has been taken at this time and people should know what happens during the day.

RIPPED OFF AND UPSET at the unknown conditions my dogs stayed in. I paid $ 316.60 to board Phoenix and Harlow from Tues, June 9^th @ 8 am — Sunday, June 14^th @ 530 pm with a bath before they came home. They both came home with a rash on their bellies. A visit to our vet (Wesley Taylor D.V.M. @ Highlands-​El Dorado Veterinary Hospital) and the diagnosis was staph infection. I now have paid an additional $ 343.38 to treat the staph infection. They are on 18 days of antibiotics, 10 days of steroids each and have to be bathed 2xs a week in a medicated shampoo.
My veterinarian, said for such a quick onset they would’ve had to stay in a kennel that was infected or wasn’t cleaned well. The fact that my dogs stayed 5 nights in possible squalor, itching pisses me off. My dogs are pitbulls, they don’t whine they just suffer stoically — until someone gives a damn. And these dogs live in an immaculate home, courtesy of an OCD-​military boyfriend.
My dogs are now crated from 745 am to 545pm — while we’re at work, because the medications flush out their system, making them more thirsty and have to urinate more often. I came home today and let them out of the crate. Phoenix couldn’t hold her bladder and she peed by the door. Her head hung low, eyes apologizing.
5 nights at this place. My dogs came back with an infection. I’m out $ 660. And you’re effin with my dog’s self-​esteem and upsetting our normal routine. I wish I had never brought my dogs to this place — it’s cost me more money and been a complete inconvenience, to have had my dogs stay in unclean conditions. Honestly, I wish I could have dropped more cuss words in this review than I have.

5 for 5. First of all, Stephanie is GREAT!!! I recently moved to the area and was looking for a day care place to take my pitbull who is very friendly. This place has exceeded all expectations. I can honestly say the dogs here get their FULL amount of playtime! The staff are very friendly and knowledgable, I know my pup is in good hands while I’m at work. I love getting report cards and updates because as any dog lover knows, their pet is like their child! 5 stars+!!

I take my dog here for grooming. Mystie is wonderful to work with and knows her stuff. My dog really really dislikes the blow dryer, so he can be a little tough to work with. The bathers are so calm and really try to work with him. They even used some treats to get him used to the dryer. My favorite part about bringing my dog to get groomed here is that I can assure my dog is taken care of very well and always comes back out looking beautiful!

Well, I finally returned to Pappy’s after taking my animals home for the winter break. Early part of the semester wasn’t as busy, so I was able to exercise my dogs a lot more. However, it’s that time of the semester when things start picking up, and my dogs deserve to still be socialized and played with. I’m happy to be back and so are they. Molina is always exhausted after her time at Pappy’s, and she has also started training with Mary at the Ohio location. She is a slow learner, but Mary is patient (and teaching me to be patient) with her.
I also noticed that Griffey was getting a little more aggressive with dogs ever since I stopped taking him to Pappy’s. He usually warms up to them after a bit, but he was becoming a mean doggie to other dogs on walks. Seeing him on the webcams at Pappy’s today makes me realize I really shouldn’t have stopped. He needs to be socialized so he doesn’t get so nervous or anxious about other dogs. This is so good for him and her (and not to mention me).
I also noticed some new employees at Pappy’s, but it is nice to know that they pick up on your dog’s names really quick and the service hasn’t been lacking. Sadly, prices have increased :(So I might not be able to take them as often as before, but with the deal this week for free days of daycare with a purchase of a package might just make it all worth it.

I love bringing my dog here! The staff is great and they honestly care for your pets as if they were their own. The facility is clean and organized. When I board her, I even get a report card when I pick her up! It helps to know how she is when I’m away. I absolutely 100% recommend Pappy’s for daycare, boarding and grooming (7 days a week!)

AMAZING!!! I boarded my 2 boxers this weekend and have not been happier with the service provided by Pappys Pet Lodge on PGBT. I called a few times each day to check on the pups to see how they were doing and everyone I spoke with was pleasant, friendly, patient and knew which dogs were mine. I have tried other places and NONE compare to this. My dogs were clean and smelled fantastic (and no, I didn’t get them groomed/​bathed, even though that is an option) and all of the bedding that I had taken was washed and folded. I immediately knew this facility was clean and safe. the staff at Pappys Pet Lodge on PGBT is the only place I trust to watch my dogs.

I’ve been taking my dog Riley to Pappy’s for 2+ years now, mainly for Doggy Day Care. The staff at this location is excellent to deal with and they take great care of my dog. The webcam option is also a cool feature. It gives you the capability of checking in on your dog to see how he/​she is doing while you’re away! All in all, a great place for socializing your dog and for much needed exercise! I definitely recommend it.

I’ve given Pappy over 3 years but I’m starting to doubt our relationship. We started out so good — my fur baby CB really seemed to enjoy day care and lodging. But, then we started having problems in our relationship…
We took CB for group training classes at their Plano location & my poor 10 lb baby was mildly attacked (eye and nose scratch) by a German Shepherd whose owner swore was the mildest dog ever just before she lunged at CB. CB peed and popped on the spot. Pappy apologized and I could see where it wasn’t Pappy’s fault so I took him back.
Then we noticed that the dogs weren’t being checked for booger bugs at drop off… not even quick once overs. I mentioned it to Pappy and he smoothed it over, and so I took him back. Again, I started noticing CB was lighter and hella thirsty whenever I picked him up… like he hadn’t had water for hours. Me and Pappy chatted about it, and I, of course, walked away thinking it was a non-​issue.
So then, I pick my angel face up and he starts limping… badly…when we get home. I was ready to break up with Pappy at this point, but after Pappy assured me that baby bear just «wore himself out» playing and was «a little sore» and that they would be happy to foot a vet bill if he didn’t improve over a couple of days… I mean Pappy means no harm? And CB did get better after a couple of days… so I took him back.
But I started dating on the sly… other boarding facilities, friends, etc. and I noticed that CB never limped when I picked him up then… But you know how you start reminiscing and you start missing your old boo (especially when your old boo is cheaper to date than your new boo)…and so I dropped angel face off at Pappy’s for a few nights’ stay. I pick him up and baby bear is limping badly. At least this time they tell us upon arrival and we don’t have to find out on our own.
What made me write this review is the answer to this simple question, «What would I do if it were me caring for a couple of my friends’ pups?» Here’s what I’d do, I would pay attention… you have to because dogs can get into things — check in often. If I noticed one of my friend’s dogs limping or struggling, I’d pull him out of romp and play and crate him to let him cool down… knowing me, I’d massage the little critter’s legs until he dozed off first. After some down time, I’d try him out again… if he were still having trouble with all the action, he’d get more down time, and at this point, I wouldn’t charge my friend for daycare, I’d just let the pup chill out… maybe walk him solo if that was doable. I don’t think I would let a friend’s pup get so bent out of shape — it’s avoidable if I’m paying attention and if I take action right away.
I like Pappy’s because they are reasonable in price, they offer the daycam, and it is a clean place. But I’d be crazy if I kept ignoring that sometimes, baby bear doesn’t seem to be getting treated like a beloved granddog by Pappy. I don’t know where we go from here in our relationship… big sigh. Try them though, and you can guage for yourself.

I like this place better then the wonder land joint. Clean, and the pets get a tv. if you want to get one for your pet while away.

My fiancée and I had our dog (Jada) board at Pappy’s Pet Lodge during our trip to Italy. She stayed there for 11 days. I picked up Jada on ¹⁰⁄₅ and was told that she ate all of her food during her stay. The total amount we paid for her lodging, grooming and daycare was $ 339.00. My fiancée decided to take Jada to our vet after we discovered some scratches on her nose. Our vet told us that Jada had lost 20% of her weight. We explained that Jada was boarding at Pappy’s Pet Lodge and we were told that they have a reputation for dumping the food and telling customers that their pets have eaten all of their food when that isn’t true.
We contacted Bonnie, who is the VP of Pappy’s Pet Lodge. In the beginning, she apologized but then said that Pappy’s shouldn’t be held responsible. She spoke with our vet and was informed that Jada’s weight wasn’t an issue until she boarded with Pappy’s. My fiancée and I have requested a complete refund for our services, since it has become crystal clear that Pappy’s mistreated our dog. Bonnie has refused to give us a refund and filing a BBB compliant is the first of many steps we are going to take in order to get a refund and have our concerns addressed. We were both disgusted with Bonnie’s lack of concern for treating animals properly and her inability to understand our perspective.
We will never ever allow Pappy’s to care for our dog because she didn’t receive the care that their mission statement suggests that is provided.
I just want other people to be informed about Pappy’s! Take your dog somewhere else!!!

Boarded my dog’s there and was able to check them out on the webcam while I was out of town! When I picked them up, they seemed happy and content and well taken care of!

The staff are polite, but I really don’t think they pay attention to what their clients ask them to do. We had two issues come up during our dog’s nine-​night board with Pappy’s:
1. Since his room was equipped with a Web cam, I could see what was going on in his room the whole time he was there. I’m glad of this because the staff neglected to put his toys, blankets, etc in the room with him. It took me sending two emails (we were out of the country and on different time zones) until I got a reply. The manager on duty immediately remedied the situation, but it should NOT take almost 48 hours for my dog to get his things.
2. When we dropped him off, we requested that he be bathed the last morning he was there. I’m glad I called before I went to pick him up because they didn’t have on record that we requested this. Not a big deal, just one other little thing they didn’t pay attention to.
Overall, our dog seemed happy when he got home, which is what’s most important. We had him in daycare every other day he was there, and from the Web cam he looked like he was having fun. The room is pretty small, though, and I didn’t see any toys in it for them to play with. We will probably take him back, but not for a long stay. And we will for sure use a room with a Web cam again.

I have utilized Pappy’s daycare and boarding services. After several bad days of daycare, I will not be bringing my dogs back here again.
Boarding was fine for the most part: We boarded him late around a busy holiday weekend, so we were left with a small cage in the grooming room for him. We had to pay extra (about $ 10 per day) if we wanted him to get out and get some additional exercise, which of course we did… so we paid a pretty penny for boarding.
Daycare:
–My dogs always come home ravenous for water! The 4^th and final time I picked them up from daycare I brought a couple bottles of water and a dog bowl – they killed off the water in a matter of seconds, and then attacked their water bowls at home. I’m under the impression that they give the dogs water when they take them out of the room around midday, but while they’re in the playroom (for a majority of the day) they get no water.
–The dogs don’t have anything to play with
–They aren’t let out enough… most of them have accidents in the playroom throughout the day.
–Thank God for the webcam! The last time I will EVER take my dogs there I watched the webcam all afternoon: Half the dogs were never taken out of the playrooms. Most of them spent a full 8-​hours in a room with no food, no water, and no potty breaks… except for the potty breaks done on the floor in the room.
Overall they have a friendly staff, and are reasonably priced, but they are not very attentive of their dogs.
I would not recommend Pappy’s.

I initially brought my dog here since it was SO much cheaper than any other pet boarding place I could find — $ 17/​night for a 3′ x 3′, which is plenty of room for my 23lb corgi. I looked around for awhile, and most other places are around the $ 25−30/night range.
After Zoe’s first stay here, the staff was in LOVE with her and couldn’t wait to have her again — which was all the more reason to bring her back, right? They remembered her after her first stay and I could call in and check on her when I wanted.
One great thing about Pappy’s is if your dog is in Day Care, they have live cameras where you can watch your pup play online by going to their website — granted, it lags a bit and is blurry, but still a nice option to have. I was still able to point out Zoe on the computer screen!
If you end up liking Pappy’s enough to become a regular, don’t forget to ask for a VIP card — you get 2% of any service back on the card, which you can use later on. I didn’t ask until Zoe’s 4^th stay, but they still put all her previous stays and services onto the card, which was nice.
Unfortunately the last time I took Zoe to stay there, she came home with fleas. When I called, they said they do a screening before Day Care, but I find it difficult to believe that my dog could have gotten fleas within the half day I had taken her home. I’ve moved since then so I probably won’t be going back, but for the price, I was pretty satisfied with Pappy’s.

My dog stayed at this location once and I would say the experience was okay. They didn’t seem to really be listening when I gave them specific instructions about my dog, but the staff seemed pretty friendly and my dog made it through alive. I would take her back here, but I would call the Coit/​Spring Creek location first.
