Sushi Sake

Came here for a double date! This place was pretty busy for a Wednesday night! Get here early if you’re going to feast! Hand rolls were awesome. Highly recommend. They give you warm towels to wipe your hands before dinner. We ordered more rolls after our first order and they came out pretty quickly. Don’t forget the special menu on the walls! Place is kinda loud, so I won’t recommend if you wanted peace and quiet for dinner, but I didn’t mind while I was eating too much. Bathroom is clean.

This place is so authentic ! The fish is so fresh and the chefs do a great job.
I will come back soon.

I usually come ther during lunch time so the price is not too expensive. But recently, I don’t like when they put the paper to say how much tip you have to pay. Some restaurants do that too but this one like they «force» you. So I just feel u comfortable about this. Anyway, the food is still good and I still will come back next time.

Was in the area today wth the wife and we wanted something light, so we opted for sushi. I gotta say, this place looks awesome. It has the right vibe and décor for a sushi bar… so they really did a great job with that. The staff was also very friendly, which is a plus.
So, for the actual food, I’m kinda meh. The scallops in butter we had for the appetizer was great, no complaints there. The chicken bento box I got was the definition of yawn inducing. Bland teriyaki chicken with zero seasoning when they grilled it, some pieces of it dry. The rest of the box was some standard tempura stuff. One shrimp and a few vegetables. Tempura batter had next to no flavor. Also came with a California roll which could have easily came from the grocery store. The presentation was really nice though, the bento boxes they use are beautiful. A shame the contents sucked. My wife got a mixed variety of sashimi, as usual. It was good, but it wasn’t anything I haven’t eaten elsewhere and didn’t warrant the price. This place is certainly a little more elevated in cost. Standard rolls are $ 1 – 3 more than at other sushi places.
I will say, they do appear to have a fresh daily selection of seafood that’s not typical written on their chalkboard behind the bar. Also, they look to have a pretty impressive selection of imported sake. I think if you decide to go here, ignore the menu, sit at the sushi bar and just go for that stuff. A little pricey, but a gorgeous restaurant.

Overall good experience. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that this is the best sushi in Dallas. There are definitely much better choices. You’re paying for the «authentic» experience here. Once you are seated, you are told to take off your shoes before sitting at the table. The atmosphere here gives you a little taste of the Japanese food and culture.
I received average service here. We did have a long wait time for our food. The food was good — I ordered an entrée as well as different selections of sushi. Fish was fresh and flavorful, but nothing out of the ordinary. Prices are a little higher than most sushi places.

I guess I’ve grown a lot or experienced a lot more in the past 3 years. I’m sorry to say this is not by far the best sushi in Texas as stated in my 2013 review. I have a few bones to pick after my recent visit:
1) The sushi menu is very limited. A handful of fish without any of the exotics.
2) The daily specialty items such as the beef tongue was dry and cold, the sauteed mushrooms were delicious but that’s because you only taste the butter smothering the mushroom mix, and the $ 18 piece of cod appetizer is delicious but literally 4 small bites.
Overall, it was fresh and good but I’ve had better and I don’t get excited about this place anymore.

The first two things I noticed: this place is busy, this place doesn’t do the giant sauced up rolls you might be accustomed to. The fact that it was so busy bodes well, since they must be doing something right to be so busy. I like a big roll from time to time, but there’s also good stuff out there in smaller portions. I settled on three items: yellowtail nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, and a negi hamachi handroll. The yellowtail itself was very fresh and tender. I think they put a dab of wasabi between the fish and the rice, not my favorite move as it distracted from the flavor of the fish. The spicy tuna roll, while not spicy, had a good flavor and freshness to it. I’ve always flirted with the idea of ordering a handroll but never actually pulled the trigger until today. A cone of seaweed held a mixture of rice, hamachi, and green onion. It was good and it was hearty.

Well that did not go well… just had a beetle crawl out of our sushi. Waitress saw it. She came back and said the manager would make us one new roll. Guess they wanted us to eat all the other rolls and sushi that were on the same plate.
Manager handled it very poorly.

My absolute favorite sushi restaurant in DFW. The quality of the fish is amazing!
The sashimi and nigiri are fresh and flavorful. I especially like the yellowtail, red snapper, scallop, salmon, and uni (sea urchin). We also got simple rolls the first time, but the fish is so good here that I just want to eat nigiri all day!
The negitoro roll (from the specials chalkboard behind the sushi bar) was delicious. It was minced blue fin tuna and green onion rolled with sushi rice and nori. Amazing.
I spend $ 40 a person every time I come here, and it’s definitely worth it. But I need to be careful or else I’ll spend all my money here!

Seriously authentic Japanese cuisine, as a matter of fact, perhaps the most authentic Japanese restaurant on DFW!
Came with a friend for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised! All of the staff was very nice and attentive. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar if you can because then you get to watch all of the sushi masters in action!
Tamago: sweet egg nigiri with a small amount of rice in the middle, very tasty.
Sweet shrimp nigiri: very fresh, don’t forget to eat the fried shrimp heads!
Chirashi: good option if you’re looking for a variety of fish.
What surprised me was authenticity of the restaurant. In Japan when you order nigiri, the chefs hand if to you, or place your order on a plate, then you are encouraged to eat the nigiri with your hands. All of the fish was super fresh, and if you feel like you’re having a ball, buy the chef a beer for only $ 1! Specials are written on the chalk board behind the sushi bar, and there’s a tanuki that will great you when you enter the restaurant :)

My absolute favorite sushi restaurant. The place is super clean and the food is always amazing. Last time I came we ordered the grilled beef tongue and it was so freaking good! I don’t think this is an everyday item but you must order it if it’s available. You won’t regret it. Everything I’ve had here has been delicious!

I had an excellent meal at Sushi Sake today! We were seated at the sushi bar and got a front row view of the chefs at work. It’s a small restaurant but we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The place was packed and energetic.
For our meal, we ordered the sashimi plate which also came with some sushi. The fish was fresh and melt in your mouth.
To complete our plates we also tried the Fried Oysters, which I highly recommend! It was three plates of perfectly fried oysters.
We also had unagi (eel) and uni (sea urchin). Both were very good but when I got the bill, the uni was as expensive as the entire sashimi plate.
Overall, it was a fantastic meal and the service was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it.

Me and my fiancé Keli came here for dinner and were completely surprised by how beautiful and organized everything was inside. This location is very busy but we must’ve picked the perfect time and we’re seated in five minutes within another two minutes we had hot steamy towels for our hands. Everyone is dressed in appropriate attire for service authentic to Japanese cuisine. 8 sushi chefs working at the bar was very impressive, their creations were beautiful. We had the sushi sampler spider roll Louisiana roll two house salads all of which were phenomenal. The fresh sushi they have is some of the best around the fish was so fresh it literally melted in my mouth. The service was spectacular in keeping my belly full and my glass full as well as being fun. So happy we found this hidden gem in our neighborhood what a great place to eat.

Came here for lunch with the kids. We sat at the bar so we could watch them make our food.
We ordered the following rolls: scallop, spicy tuna, tempura, eel, spider, and rainbow roll. All were good with the exception of the spider roll. That just did not taste right. I have had it twice and both times the flavor was off. I think next time I will go back to the volcano crab roll.
Malisa was our waitress and she was attentive Our water glasses never went empty. The place was packed for lunch time too! It’s always a pleasure to eat at Sushi Sake! The price was great at 61 $ for all we ate. (That did not include the 20% tip)

The sushi chefs are kind, knowledgeable and accommodating to any modifications on/​off the menu.
The ambiance is simple yet elegant.
AND they have the freshest uni I’ve ever tasted!

The sushi is good. but the service is so abysmal it hurts. We had a woman that could have cared less. Here is our conversation. «We would like two sushi B combos for lunch with 1 side salad.» (Sushi B combos come with miso soup). She says, «Okay so you want 2 sushi b combos with miso soup and side salads?» I say, «No, we want 2 sushi b combos that come with miso soup right? And we want 1 side salad.» She says, «You want 2 sushi B combos with miso soup, side salads?» I say, «you just said that. Let’s start over. Do the sushi b combos come with miso soup?» She says, «Yes they do.» I say, «if we order the sushi b combos we get miso soup right? She says, «Yes.» I say, «Can I get a side salad with our order?» She walks away.
I guarantee my miso soup had something extra in it along with my side salad and sushi b combo. The worst waiter and service I have had in a long, long time.
Don’t open a sushi restaurant if you can’t treat customers right and communicate!

Best sushi bar outside of Japan. (And I’ve been.) The selection of nigiri is incredible. They don’t really take reservations, but trust me, it’s worth the wait.

Great quality fish and preparation. Excellent venue and nice ambiance. They have a great variety of fish. Prices are average to a bit on the high side. By far one of my favorite sushi places in Dallas. Great place for a date or business meeting.

Best sushi in Dallas. Please note that this restaurant is more of a sashimi and simplistic-​type place and doesn’t have a whole variety of complex rolls to choose from on the menu. It is very genuine, FRESH sushi that is wonderfully prepared by the many talented chefs working at the bar. I eat here at least 1x a week while visiting in town and I highly recommend it to all my friends that come visit and want high quality sushi. It is hard to recommend anything as I think everything is just perfect.

LOVE this place! My family and I have been coming here for 10+ years and still have not found a place comparable. It’s location is not the most convenient, but the fish is always as fresh as you can find in Dallas and the prices are reasonable considering the quality. Sushi Sake is always my go-​to sushi recommendation for people looking for a quality sushi experience.

This place is AMAZING. I stopped by last night around 8PM crossing my fingers that there wouldn’t be a wait… and we were seated immediately. Their interior gives off a very «traditional sushi place» feel. My friend and I sat at a table/​bench but I also noticed that they have a section where you can sit on the floor. As for our food, we both ordered ‘Sushi B’ ($ 22) which includes a handful of nigiri and tuna rolls. Also, each of their rolls and nigiri has a bit of wasabi in them. so if you don’t like wasabi I would ask them to take it out for you.
The only downside of this place is that it is a little hidden behind a couple of buildings in Richardson but if you can find it… it’s definately a hidden gem! Overall, this place looked amazing, tasted amazing, and the service was super quick and professional.

Mediocre sushi… I guess this is considered good for Dallas?
We came around 9PM on a Saturday and didn’t get seated until 930PM. We didn’t mind the wait for the table, but we were annoyed that we had to wait a long time to place an order. Also, miso soup usually comes out prior to the main entrée, but our waiter forgot and brought them out after. I guess our mistake was that we ordered the sashimi and nigiri (mediocre), but we might have been better off ordering the specialty rolls. We did enjoy the beef tongue appetizer though.
Hoping to give this place another chance in the future. Maybe…

Coming from Plano, this place seems of obscure, tucked behind a bunch of hotels and office buildings, but don’t let that concern you. This place is always packed and for good reason — the experience is worth getting a little lost for.
The menu is a compilation of izakaya style small plates, sushi/​sushi combos, and coursed dinners with soup and salad. There is a large L-​shaped sushi. bar along with bench seating, some of which are large enough to sit communal style.
I would recommend always perusing the specials board first — fresh catch sushi, chef’s specials, etc. are posted there and change often. The first time we came here, we had sushi and a couple of small plates and enjoyed it so much we came back. We brought the kiderinos the second time and got to taste udon, steak dinner, and a chirashi bowl along with a few small plates. Hubs loved his teriyaki steak — perfectly cooked. I thought the chirashi bowl was good and the portion right priced however they top their rice with this sweet mushroom mix that I didn’t care for. Udon was… udon. Good but not the best we’ve had.
The reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because of some of the pricing. Saki prices are crazy — $ 15 per glass crazy — and they serve it in these wooden boxes that are impossible to drink out of without spilling and have an icky mouth feel. Small plates are puny and most are barely shareable which is half the fun of izakaya style pub fare.
Over all, however, we’d definitely come back and would recommend.

Easily my faaaaaavorite sushi restaurant in the dallas-​richardson area (without breaking my wallet)!! JR and I frequent sushi sake when we are due for a sushi date night with fresh sushi and overly-​exceptional service in a very clean and traditionally decorated restaurant.
We ordered:
— beef tataki
— shishito peppers
— hamachi kama
— mackerel sashimi
— salmon sashimi
— ikura
— tuna roll
— 2 bottles of sake
First off, the hamachi kama is ALWAYS amazing and is my favorite here. It’s a MUST order each time we dine in. I love the perfect char on the outside of the crispy fish skin! MmMm.
The salmon and mackerel sashimi, like always was super fresh and plated at the right temperature. Succulent, to say the least! Beef tataki is always good and came with a ponzu/​lemon/​ginger/​green onion? dipping sauce that was soooo good, we used it to dip with everything else too! I love ponzu. Shishito peppers are JRs favorite and we had a few super duper spicy ones and some that were of mild heat. They were grilled and charred to perfection and the salt is served on the side, instead of on top. Ikura was the best I’ve had in a long time… Just by looking at it, you could tell how fresh it was. It tasted even better! Not too salty like I’ve had before.
Service was excellent, but it wasn’t to my surprise!
Also, one of our favorite dishes here that isn’t listed on the paper menu is the popcorn crab appetizer! Literally tiny little fried crabs. It’s usually on the «special items» chalkboard menu. Can’t believe we forgot to order it yesterday!
Try this place out!!! You won’t be dissappointed I promise!!!
P. S. Sushi sake doesn’t have a list of «specialty» sushi ROLLS. They have a few (such as spider roll and caterpillar roll. And then your generic salmon roll, tuna roll, scallop roll, etc) but they really focus more on, and specialize in their FRESH sashimi, appetizers, and other special menu items u won’t really find at other sushi restaurants. (Lobster UNI!!! Omg) Sushi sake probably isn’t for the «California-​roll-​loving», «fried-​everything with a bunch of sauces that over power the fish-​roll» loving type of person, if you know what I mean. Come here to try fresh fish and other items you don’t see else where!

This is my favorite sushi spot in Dallas. The Hotetagi Butteryaki (scallops) is to die for — it’s very buttery and flavorful and kind of melts in your mouth. We usually order a few appetizers (Hotetagi Butteryaki, beef tataki, karaage, shishito peppers) and nigiri+sashimi for our main meal. The fish is so fresh and delicious here I don’t like to eat rolls that would take away from the flavor of the fish!
I took my friends who work at Musashino in Austin (best sushi in Austin) and they said Sushi Sake really compares!

I am finally writing a review for this place! I’ve been here multiple times for dinner and it never disappoints. Food and service have always been amazing. I’ve tried many other sushi restaurants around Dallas and Sushi Sake is by far my favorite!

The sushi quality is very fresh, the freshest you can get in Dtown! FYI, they do not have the usual Americanized special sushi rolls, only the simple rolls. I think I’ve tried almost everything on the menu from the sushi/​sashimi platters, udon, tempura, soba noodles, rice bowls. hahah they were all good! ZERO complaints on any of their food items. I would highly suggest the sushi & sashimi combination, fresh & delicious!
They do not take reservations (only reservations for party of 6 or more) so be prepared to wait if you go during busy hours. I definitely recommend Sushi Sake for anyone who’s looking for the best & affordable sushi in Dallas! Delicious!

When I’m in the mood to treat myself, sushi sake is probably close to the top of my list. Of all the sushi places I’ve tried in DFW, Sushi Sake is probably the most traditional… which I really appreciate. Instead of getting massive rolls that have been crusted in tempura flakes, filled with cream cheese, and covered with sauce, the sushi chefs here let the fish speak for themselves. Even though Dallas isn’t exactly close to water, the flavor of the fish here is always bright and fresh. Their uni and torro are very good, and because they aren’t located in Uptown, the prices are at least a little lower than what you’d find in the heart of Dallas.
A couple things to note, this place gets busy at dinner, so depending on what time you go, you may find yourselves waiting a bit. Also, the seating arrangements are bit weird. There are several large tables that are meant for multple parties, so you may also find yourself sharing a table with some strangers. Finally, the omokase here requires 24 hrs of advance notice. I didn’t realize this when I first came here, so if you want the chef’s choice, give them some notice.
All in all, really great place, but a few things unrelated to the food keep it at 4 stars instead of 5.

I think the prior reviews and outstanding ratings stand for themselves– there’s not much new I can say here so I’ll just summarize:
Amazing sushi. Japanese-​style seating. Rough staff service (they’re not gonna bend over backwards for you like typical American restaurants … but its worth it!)

I have had so much sushi that my fingers hurt holding the chopsticks but at sushi and saki the pain is worth it.

This is quality sushi and sashimi. Quality. You will pay for quality, but this is worth it.
I found Sushi Sake through Unilocal — thank you. I had to wait for space for one person to be available, but after 10 minutes a spot at the bar opened up. I love sitting at the sushi bar because it gives you the chance to interact with the sushi chefs and see them in action. The woman sitting next to me was a regular with our chef, so I reaped the reward of that introduction.
I had my usuals, salmon with a paper thin slice of lemon, scallop, tuna, egg plus the most sweet, succulent sweet shrimp with crispy head accompaniment. Each piece was fresh, well presented. Just perfect.
Very busy place. I had to park in the business lot next door, so not quite enough parking when the place is full.
I will return!

I had the best bday dinner with my favorite Japanese friend and her husband. Their uni was straight from Japan priced around $ 12 and we all were impressed with its quality.
Fresh, delightfully sweet, and great color. Decent sushi in right price range. Chirashi was classic example of «Savory» dish and I was pleased with this experience st Sushi Sake.
We went on Monday night (July 13) and it was about 15 minutes of wait. TOTALLY WORTH IT. Try different small dishes to accompany with beers. I don’t usually order fried dishes but since they fry in Japanese way, we ordered white fish and mixed tempura. They were all lightly battered and crunchy. Definitely these plates increaed our appetite for sushi.
After all, I left this place with great mood, great conversation, and great company.

Truly upset right now with sushi sake. Avoid this place if you have children because they will not accommodate.
We intended to come here for a nice Father’s Day dinner but was told that we could not have a stroller in the restaurant. That would be fine but we have a sleeping toddler in a light weight stroller that prob only take up one seat space. We are not going to wake her up just so we can have dinner. This is a ridiculous! This the first time in my life we have ever been asked to put our stroller back in the car at a restaurant, no less with a child in there!
So of course we left and went else where. I understand if this is some fancy 5 star restaurant but it’s not. And yes Unilocal indicated that this place is not kid friendly. But a lot of other places says that too but they are very still very accommodating with high chairs and all.

Definitely recommend their nigiri because the seafood here is so fresh. My favorite has to be the toro, super fatty tuna. It literally melt in your mouth. If you want more bang for you buck, I’d recommend the chirasu Ju bowl. That way, you get to try a little bit of everything, including salmon, squid, shrimp, octopus and more fishes. I also love their scallop roll and it’s fairly inexpensive. The focus here is more on sushi, so don’t be surprise when the cooked food menu is short. With that being said, we ordered the tonkatsu and it delicious. The bread in was thin and crunchy, and the pork was tasty.
The restaurant has an authentic Japanese feeling and very cozy. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Richardson. Shout out to my city!

First, I love the location. 10 bonus points for it being in a secluded area away from other restaurants and another 5 points for it having an actual parking lot with lots of spaces. Then add on, oh let’s say 7 points for the fact that my waitress, Siva was incredibly attentive and friendly and that the food came out really quick even with a lunch crowd.
I ordered the chirashi ju (sashimi mix with rice — $ 15) and kaki fry (fried oysters — $ 8) and both items were amazing. A whopping 35 bonus points for the huge oysters being incredibly fresh, fried perfectly and served with an amazing slightly sweet dipping sauce as well as a spicy mustard sauce. I could have ordered 20 more. The sashimi was simple and tasted very clean and the rice couldn’t have been any more perfect. There were so many interesting items on the menu that I would definitely recommend coming here with a large group and taking your time with exploring the menu. Lots of little dishes, interesting sushi and entrées/​bento boxes in a beautiful restaurant. 4 points for the bathrooms being clean.
