Texans Credit Union

Called them today because they pulled my credit without my consent. During a visit 2 weeks ago they asked «what purpose is this loan for?» And I said for business and they informed me texans credit union doesn’t do business loans yet. They should have ripped up my application at that point.
Why pull my credit when you can’t give out business loans? Obviously this is not going to help when I apply for other business loans from banks that CAN do them. Train your staff to ask that first! Also, dont pull anyone’s credit without their permission!

Worst financial institution to deal with if your information has been stolen. They call you to notify you about fraud then they have you call the branch to reissue you a card and to see if you can eat your money back. Been trying to call the branch number but you cannot get to anyone nor does anyone call you back. I’m out of state and now I’m stuck without my money! Other banks handle these issues right away and credit your money back as well. Only reason why I use this bank is because I made a mistake on the search engine selecting this bank instead of the Credit Union of Texas for my auto loan. Can’t wait to leave this banks. Has Been nothing but headaches since I signed up!!!

Both times I’ve been to this particular branch, I’ve been greeted right away and treated to awesome customer service. This is a very large branch and there is never a long wait in the lobby. This is probably my favorite Texans location.

Easily the worst customer service I have ever dealt with from any banking institution.

SHARP decline ever since they went belly up and had to be taken over. Read about that here if you weren’t aware:
Fees fees fees, FEES EVERYWHERE out of NOWHERE! I am CONSTANTLY calling to dispute totally fraudulent overdraft fees. The last time I called, the agent said that if I was better at managing my money then I wouldn’t get fees. Uh, no… it’s not my problem that you take 5+ days to process deposits but you INSTANTLY charge an overdraft fee even when the charge is still PENDING, plus you split up each charge into 2 or more separate piecemeal charges and charge overdraft fees on EACH. That’s you being deliberately predatory, not me being bad at managing money. The only blame I will accept is not having switched to a different credit union sooner!
Their dividend rates are so low and the fees are so jacked up, the only benefit of being with them is the low interest rates on loans, credit lines, and credit cards. Those are still good, luckily. Get one of those products, but ignore literally every other service this credit union offers — forget their checking, don’t use it!
Also, on their credit cards, the only way to access that account is to go to the texans website, sign in, click through several menus, get routed to a second external site, then sign in AGAIN. Then you can finally see your balance and pay it. It’s like they WANT you to default on it because you forgot about it.
This has been my only financial institution… ever. I got my first savings account here at 14, ffs. It was always a truly wonderful organization, I was proud to be a member and I felt taken care of. But no longer, that institution is DEAD AND GONE and replaced by this poor imposter.

Not a bad location. The staff here is quite friendly and helpful. One of the problems I frequently run into at this particular Texans is that one of its two drive up ATMs is on the fritz. It either has a problem reading my debit card or it has trouble with its image recognition for check deposits. One of these has been the case on at least eight visits I’ve made in the past six months.
Other than that, I’ve had great experiences here. Efficient, convenient place to do my banking. :)

I can’t say that I ever enjoy going to this bank because the lines are always long. They never have enough people working, especially during the peak hours of lunch time and after work.
They do however have pretty good rates on loans, so consider it when you shop around.
Overall, the bank is okay but I prefer banks that are open later hours and don’t have such long lines.

I have only been a member for 10 months new to The state of Texas. Joined took out a small loan. To establish credit with them. Went in to make another small loan to buy an extended warranty for a car I recently purchased 10 months later.
Not only did she offer me a comparable warranty through Texans for 1000.00 less.
**She refinanced the car I had just purchased 3 months prior. Slashing my interest rate in half.
**Lowered my payments by $ 20.00 dollars
**Knocked a year off the years I would have to pay for the car. Saving me THOUSANDS!
**This included the warranty I origally went there for AND GAP coverage.
This all took a couple of hours.
VERY FRIENDLY!

Been a member for over 15 years now. Have been banking with them ever since and have had auto loans/​credit cards through them as well. I have always had great service at Texans no matter which location you go to. The one Plano at Custer and McDermott has the best Manager ever. I have not had any complaints in the last 15 years, so that speaks volume for their service and offerings.

I’ve been with Texans Credit Union since I was in high school. Yes, that’s somewhere around 18 years. That’s back when it was called Texins. I can only think of a couple times that I’ve had a problem with Texans that wasn’t my fault and each time, they either fixed the problem to my satisfaction or they stuck to their policy that I knew of, but was hoping they could waive. It’s what they have to do to be a business.
Internet banking is very convenient and works great. ATMs are plentiful in the North Dallas area, so I’ve never had a problem there and my ATM card works at any PULSE ATM, so I’ve withdrawn money overseas without problems either.
I’ve had other accounts at other banks and have always kept my Texans account because it’s always been reliable.
Last year, I refinanced with Texans because they had the best rate vs closing costs. It was handled professionally and quickly as I would expect it to.
We also use Texans for financial planning and have had no problems there.
The only thing we’ve come across that we didn’t like is the business account is charged a maintenance fee. We’ve moved our account to another bank because of this.

All benefits of a Credit Union are evident. As compared to other credit unions though they are bigger and better! What I like most is that the representatives don’t fret about every little thing or paperwork. They were helpful and flexible in terms of helping me get the paperwork done during the weekdays while I was at work.

Just last year, I would’ve told you how great Texans CU is. However, they recently implemented a new policy to charge $ 25 a MONTH for any business account. After speaking with a customer service rep and a manager, they told me nothing could be done. I will be closing all of my accounts with Texans and steering my friends away from them. Highly disappointing. They clearly do not care about their customers.

I refinanced my house through Texans. They had the best rate and lowest origination fees. I’ve had an account with them for a long time. I used to move my account every few years because I’d get so pissed off at my bank I’d quit em. I’ve had a few experiences that weren’t perfect, but the fact I’ve stayed with them so long says they must do doing most things right.

I personally work for another bank in DFW and my ex wife works for Bank of America. We both kept our accounts at Texans and used them as our primary checking, savings and loan despite working for other banks and even living out of state for 9+ months.
I still only bank at Texans and after seeing the service and policy’s of other banks know for certain I’m a customer for life.
We have only had an auto loans from Texans. So this review does not include boat, home, etc.

I’m disappointed to have to to give Texans 2 of 5 stars because a few years ago I would have given them 5 of 5.
I’ve done 3 car loans through Texans in the last few years and they were flawless. Quick approval, fast communication, easy paperwork signing. Everything else with them has been an act of congress.
I tried to do a mortgage with them and they sent me documents with the wrong information (wrong names, wrong amounts, etc). Ended up going with another lender.
I’ve tried to do a boat loan with them twice. The first time they said they could do it no problem and came back asking me to pay down over 50% of the value of the boat.
The second time around, I was approved and spent several days trying to get someone on the phone to help me finalize the details. As of this moment in fact, I am still waiting for some documents to be faxed so I can sign them and return them so I can take delivery of my new boat.
It seems like in at least the last six months the staff at Texans works with no urgency and is not proactive.

Zachary K. wrote everything I was going to say, so I’m just going to amen his review and add more detail. I feel like Texans is pretty much the best place to do banking, from my own experience with other banks and comparing my experiences to my friends and family who have other banks.
Texans is very close-​knit and personal, and yet they are fairly large and have been around for quite some time. The reason behind this is because it used to be TexIns, a credit union for Texas Instruments, but then they opened up for the community. My father was part of TI, but he was so satisfied that he kept the credit union long after he left TI (and Texas, for a bit), and I don’t blame him! I’m glad he’s still with them, or else I’d never have been introduced to this credit union.
Without getting into more specific numbers and politics about why local credit unions are better for you financially than big business banks, there are still a huge number of reasons why they’re nicer in general. Not only is the customer base fairly tightly knit, so is the administration. You’ll get much faster and much more care and attention than bigger banks, and if there’s ever a problem, they actually –care– about what you have to say.
I was stubborn for a while and kept an account with a much bigger, more well-​known national bank, and I cannot tell you how many times I had problems with them, and how many times those problems fell on deaf ears (and how LONG it took for those problems to fall on said deaf ears).
At Texans, if I have a problem, it’s dealt with immediately and quickly. If I walk in and there’s even a 5 minute wait, they’ll sit me down and ask me if I want some coffee, diet coke, water, snacks, etc. Someone will work with me until the problem is dealt with completely; there’s never a «we’ll get back to you» or «this isn’t my department’s problem». If they have to contact someone in another department, they apologize profusely even if it wasn’t their fault! They’re so attentive to customer care that they’ll be calling my phone and work phone days after the problem is fixed, just to make sure everything is A-​OK.
Even when I am at fault, I seem to get just as much attention and help. I had a dumb moment last year where I overdrafted a bunch of times replacing things after my apartment was burglarized. It wasn’t their fault at all, but they contacted me about it (Note: They called –me-​, asking if I was having trouble with the account), and after I explained the situation, they ended up waving all three of the overdraft fees. I didn’t even ask them too, because it was completely my fault. This is just how the credit union is. They care about you as a customer personally, and they know that if you have a good experience with them, you’ll keep them forever. Very different from big business banks, who just want new customers, and could care less about their old ones!
When I walk in there, the cashiers recognize me and greet me (this is the same for both the Richardson location and the Garland one), and I don’t go to the bank in person that often (perhaps once every two or three months). They’ll ask me how my dad is doing, why my mom doesn’t come by as often, etc etc. All this, and the bank itself and the atmosphere still conducts itself professionally and efficiently as possible. It’s just what you’d expect from a true Texas company: a serious business with southern hospitality.
Now remember, I am just talking about the general positives about Texans Credit Union. Financially, they’re also fantastic. Loans, savings, investments, insurance, etc; they have great options, service, and rates for all of these. I don’t think I’ve met a single person disappointed with Texans Credit Union in my life. I’ll mourn the day I might have to leave Texas and be far from them. All in all, fantastic quality, fantastic service, fantastic rates, fantastic company in general. Unless something drastic happens, I will stay with Texans as long as I possibly can.

The best place to do banking in the DFW. They give a real personal approach and they aren’t sticklers about waving overdraft fees and such. I believe the reason being is because it is a community credit union as opposed to a bank. Credit unions tend to have better customer service for there members. My family has been apart of this credit union since I was born because my dad used to work for Texas Intrsuments who’s employees still use today. However, Texans Credit Union is open to the public, and they have great interest rates on CD’s and mutual funds as well. They offer a broad range of loans and credit services. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!
