Richmond Hill Branch Queens Library

Super noisy .
I came here to study but is a nightmare .
Phones ringing, the front desk people speaking over the (loud) intercom. Lady, throw a ball of paper or a pencil to that person you need to speak to or better reach over and poke him. This place is super small how difficult would be to find the person instead of disturbing everyone. First & last time for me .
I had to remove a star and make this 1 .
This place is horrible & it will eat your PTO from work & you would have wasted your day off with nothing done. I wish I could say little done.

This library is very noisy. Kids running around and nobody days anything.
Libraries are supposed to be a place for peace & quiet.
There is a limited selection of books & always a really long line of people waiting to use the computers.
The good thing is that I can walk here to drop off books rather than taking the bus to the central one on my way home from work.

Everyone is so unpleasant there. When you ask for assistance on the floor everyone acts like they’re too busy to help you when the customer should be the most important thing. Then the women behind the counter are awful. Some don’t speak back to you when you speak to them and they have the nastiest looks on their faces. If it wasn’t within walks distance of my house I’d never go there because they’re just awful.

The staff are very kind and helpful, but they need to better enforce the quiet law! It’s a library, not a club or daycare.

This place is my quiet corner. The books are kept in perfect order, the librarians do their job, and one in particular, Elizabeth, is very helpful and sweet. There’s a beautiful children’s room. Both the adult & childrens section have about 6 – 8 computers each. There’s laptops and free Wi-​Fi available. If they dont have a particular book you want, all you have to do is request it, and they’ll have it in within the same week.

After finding this place closed on Sundays I skipped over after work on Monday. Arriving 35min before closing time I went to the counter with all my necessary proof of residency and asked for my library card. A woman with a severe speech impediment garbled at me that it was time for her to ‘count the drawer’ and told me to ‘go on line’. As I tried to explain that I did not want to wait a week for the card to arrive in the mail she dismissed me and went upstairs. Not giving up I tried a more sympathetic looking woman who was of more help. I filled out the paperwork. I waited in line and presented it to the attendant. I got more crap about how late it was, this other lady hunt-​and-​pecked my info into the computer and presented me my card (25 minutes later). After spelling my name four times it became clear to me that everyone who works at this library is illiterate.
Having only about 10 minutes to find the titles on my list I went to the computer and wrote down all the call numbers. Five titles later none of my books could be found. I left disappointed with a copy of Madame Bovary.
What is up with this place, I have more books in my house?! The state needs to re-​evaluate whatever crap they’re spending taxpayers money on and give the Richmond Hill Library some much needed funding. A total disgrace.

Update– Locals told me to go to the main branch in Jamaica. Sweet now I have to go to the hood.
