A & J Resurfacing

I have used A&J for multiple projects during the last few years. Each time the team was professional and the quality of the work was great. The main work was in rental apartments built in the 1940’s. Tubs were old cast iron and had stains and dings. The new finish makes them look great. I plan to use A&J again for my future projects.

I research everything and am very calculated with how I chose to spend my hard earned money and I know you are too! From the moment I emailed A&J Resurfacing I knew that this was going to be THE company I chose to work with for my bathroom’s makeover. If you want to do business with a company that makes you feel like a priority and delivers the quality work you want, LOOK NO FURTHER.
As soon as I emailed A&J for an inquiry (on a weekend), I received a response from April within minutes and had an appointment set for the following week. I also received reminder calls for the initial appointment and the actual appointments to complete the job. John was punctual, courteous, patient, meticulously clean (I mean not a single piece of evidence they were even there) and extremely knowledgeable!
The end result is far better than I could ever imagine and it is a COMPLETE transformation. I no longer feel embarrassed to show my guests this bathroom and I am not overwhelmed by this ugly mauve bathroom looming in the back of my projects list. The price I paid is simply incredible for the work I had completed!!!

My tenants used some highly abrasive stuff on my tub and it looks like they took off the finish. I didn’t want to put a new tub in there because it has a tied wall and it would be too expensive. I spoke to someone who showed me their redone tub in a house they were selling and they told me the name of their realtor, who recommended A an J. Since I had heard stories about how the refinish doesn’t last, I called the realtor. She told me that her own tub had been refinished by A & J, 15 years ago, and that it still looked great. They key is to use liquid nonabrasive cleaners and to keep it clean.
Talking to her made me have more confidence in getting my tub redone. I will update later!

I don’t feel too bad about the delayed review for A&J Resurfacing. This is the type of work you want to know will last.
We hired A&J Resurfacing in October 2008 to refinish our 58 year old original cast iron tub at the recommendation of our «Tile Guy» who was renovating our bathrooms. He pointed out the dingy scratched up tub against the crisp white subway tile he had just installed. I reluctantly agreed not knowing how durable a resurfaced tub would be.
A&J Resurfacing fit us into their schedule on short notice. John arrived on time and completed the work within 4 hours. He left detailed instructions on how long it needed to cure and followed up several days later to ensure there were no issues.
I must say the fully cured product and workmanship has far exceeded my expectations. The resurfaced tub has remained scratch less even at the hands of two children’s multitude of bath toys. Some that stick, some that sink and some that run into every point along the waterline.
I have been extremely satisfied.
So why write a review 6 years later? A) I did not know about Unilocal in 2008. B) I basically forgot about the work even being done until I had a leaky pipe repaired in March of 2014. The new drain spout the plumber installed was slightly smaller in diameter than the old one. This left a ¼ inch of the old dingy dub visible.
I contacted A&J resurfacing who again worked us in on short notice. I fully expected about a hundred dollar invoice for the touch up but, John did the work gratis.
If you have an old tub that needs new life, I highly recommend A&J Resurfacing. If you can follow instructions and resist the urge to use the tub before it has fully cured, this is a great alternative to replacing your tub with a modern version that is certainly built with less quality that the original.

A&J Resurfacing resurfaced my tub in April 2010. The paint peeled off with blue painters tape 5 months later and they re-​did it again under warranty. 2.5 years later same problem. And the paint has been coming off in large chunks. They say when I had it done they only offered a 2 year warranty. Now it’s 5 years. So they offered to strip it for free but charge me the full amount to re-​do it a 3^rd time for $ 299 again.
Frustrated I let it sit for a long time wishing I had just replaced the tub. I then got the recommendation from Caravati’s to try Miracle Method of Richmond. They were far from cheap. $ 770 in the end. They stripped it and found it dirty with sharpie marks still showing underneath. The two patches easily came off and looked like bondo. The technician couldn’t believe how dirty it was underneath the paint which is what caused the poor adhesion. Steer clear of A&J. Miracle Method was a lot more expensive but it looks like you get what you pay for.
