History

Established in 2007.

ALB Tech LLC was founded November 9th, 2007 by Adam Lloyd Bell, the owner/​operator. Seeing a need for a quality one stop technology stop in the city, ALB began planning in late summer 2007. By mid-​October, the 1208 W. Main St. location was scouted and secured. By early November, ALB Tech LLC was born and the 1800sq ft. space began its face lift. Although the transformation is an on-​going process, ALB Tech LLC is open for business. Look for pictures of the renovation process soon in the ALBlog section.

Recently ALB Tech was awarded #3 Best Computer Repair Shop in Richmond by Richmond Magazine! We tied for 3rd with the Apple Store @ Short Pump, and followed #1 Best Buy (odd inclusion), and #2 Capitol Mac. We’re excited that Richmond is taking notice. Come in soon and see us.

Adam fixes all kinds of stuff around ALB Tech — desktops, laptops, notebooks, netbooks, iPhones, etc… He answers phones, goes on-​site for customers, rings people up, buys stuff, manages the books, cleans the shop, builds websites, designs graphics, updates blogs, manages social networking, and more. ALB stays busy.

Adam Lloyd Bell is the owner and operator of ALB Tech. You may know him, however, as a human being, a male, a son, a brother, a boyfriend, a father (to dogs), a friend, a college graduate, a computer geek, a web and graphic designer, a home media enthusiast, a musician, a reader, a writer, a joker, and much more. ALB graduated from VCU in the Spring of 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a Minor in Spanish. Although residing in Richmond for over seven years, ALB was born and raised in Williamsburg, Newport News, and Yorktown, VA. They’re honest, personable, straightforward, very fast and if you take the time to check out their site for weekly and daily discount promotions, their pricing (which was one of the most competitive I found even before applying the discount) can’t be beat.

Alb is simply the only place you go in RVA when needing phone repair or computer help. By far the most knowledgable and easy to deal with. Won’t get ripped off or lied to about anything … Just give them a ring and let them take care of the issue. Good daily discounts and easy to work with staff.

I took my Lenovo Thinkpad Twist into ALB a week or so ago due to a dead hard-​drive, and ALB gave me a quoted price. Unfortunately, another issue popped up and ALB needed to spend an extra day to fix the issue, which included upgrading to the newest version of Windows. Despite the extra labor and upgrade, they still charged me the original price (which had been discounted anyway) and were transparent the entire time. Great experience and price!

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. I have been a repeat customer for laptop repair over the last 3 years. The prices are extremely fair, and the staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and open to questions. As a VCU student, going here is WAY cheaper than going to VCU Ram Tech service. They fixed my Macbook in a timely manner. They are transparent about issue and how they’re going fix it. I will definitely be going back with any other computer problems I have in the future.

I recently broke my iphone screen and had taken my phone to get a repair quote from multiple places. ALB was the only place i found that would fix it without trying to rip me off.
Other places refused to fix it unless I paid a quote nearly half the price of my iPhone 5, and tried to rush me into leaving my phone with them because of the «good deal i was getting» Fixing a phone screen for 150 $ is total bullshit.
Not only did ALB offer me a fair deal for fixing my phone (including a 20% discount with their daily deals), the guy was very easy to talk to and I even got to watch him fix my phone up (totally cool for a science dork like me)!
10⁄10 would recommend for getting your phone fixed here. Diagnostics are free and they have an ultra cute office dog!

Over the past 4 or 5 years, I’ve taken several computers to ALB Tech for repair having a variety of problems. Work ranged from virus removal to hard drive replacement. In each case they diagnosed the problem, presented options, quoted prices, and completed the agreed upon work in a timely fashion. I’ve referred numerous friends, and without exception, they were very satisfied.

I have a clunky, enormous desktop that’s a bit dated and was put together by someone from a shop up in NoVa, and it used to frequently have problems. I took it in several times to ALB and their staff was always friendly and helpful, especially since I know next to nothing about computers. They always got it going again, frequently free of charge, and now it runs much, much better than it did. Great staff, and great service, and they’re very honest with you and not trying to trick you into purchases you don’t need. I would recommend them to anyone with computer repair needs.

It’s rare to find a business that is honest, fair, and competent and ALB Tech is all three. My external hard drive with patient photos would not mount on my Mac. I tried disc utility repair, and finally WD tech support offered to replace under warranty, and provided the name of a national disc recovery service that was crazy expensive. I wanted someone locally, gave the drive to ALB, and they were able to perform a disk utility repair, which allowed me to transfer the data, and at no charge for the diagnostics. I would recommend them unconditionally.

Gotta update this review!
I got a new laptop in the mail today, and no wonder it was so cheap… it had a hokey Linux operating system installed on it. I’m stuck in Window’s world and I don’t want to learn a new OS. Called them early in the afternoon, and dropped the computer off about an hour later. At 5:30, it was ready to go, and conveniently, they were open until 7:00 for me to pick it up. I’m happily Unilocaling from my new computer, with everything as it should be (a new operating system I’m familiar with, no preinstalled bloatware, life is good). I’m thinking that every new computer I get is going to go to them right away for a quick clean-​up, so it does all of what I want and none of what I don’t want.
…and I got 16% off of the bill with their daily deal! The price was already fair, but better with the deal. These guys are great!

Brought a broken laptop to them, the owner worked on it personally and called me later that afternoon. He we extremely straightforward in recommending that I not bother getting it repaired and just buy a new one for less than what it would cost to fix it. He was adamant about not wasting my time or money and I really appreciated the honesty. I have been to computer repair places before which charge almost $ 100 for a diagnostic and will literally makeup or try to find unnecessary things to fix just to make some money.
This is only 4 stars simply because I did not get to see the product of their actual work first hand, but next time I have a computer issue I’ll definitely come back.

So, I purchased a computer approximately 8 months ago (new SAMSUNG from Best Buy). Its having a harddrive problem so I bring it to them, and they diagnose it as purely a virus problem and ask me to pay for it to get fixed. I could hear the drive myself so I disregard their diagnosis and went straight to ALB Tech. Diagnosed it, recommended two courses of action, and obviously I said go with a Solid State Harddrive installed by ALB Tech. They hooked it up, were fast (too fast I had to let the computer sit for a day) and gave me some good feed back. I have had them recover numerous hard drives for me, fix my old computer. My pop’s told me about these dudes, and I have since spread the word. I like the fact that they are a small company, and can perform many tasks outside of the typical «lane» you would expect at a larger company. Good all around performance. It definitely helps that I understand computers some what and can get details.

We decided, on the recommendation of Capital Mac, to have a cracked ipad 4 screen replaced here instead of sending to Revamp in Chicago, thinking that it is a very straight forward repair and that it would be done quickly.
We dropped it off on a Friday and were told to pick it up Thursday. We went back Thursday and were told that it was not done and that the repair guy took the evening off to go out on a date. When we politely asked when it might be done, the clerk took on an affronted attitude, as though we insulted him.
It was done two days later. The new screen was put on a little crooked, and the the home button was now below the screen, instead of being flush with it.
So: not delivered on time, poor workmanship, average price, and rude service. We have 4 iPads and five iPhones in the family; next time one breaks, we will not be going back to ALB Tech.

Awesome place. I love that they know me and my computer. I feel special going in there, and the staff is wonderful about answering some basic computer questions and even pointing me in good directions for getting another one.
But I will always bring my machine into ALB. They don’t waste my money on figuring out what’s wrong. They charge reasonable rates when they can fix something, and I trust them 100% with my life (which is pretty much what the computer is). I’m extremely appreciative.
Here is where it would be inappropriate to say these are not unattractive men in there, either. I’m just saying.

I think these folks are fabulous. My options for fixing a computer are usually mail it back (if under warranty) and have it gone for 3 months, take it to a big box store (I’m talking about you, Geek Squad) where it costs lots of money and time and still sometimes doesn’t come back right, or take it to ALB Tech. ALB Tech is always our first stop.
They have fixed three computers for us. They replaced a hard drive in a laptop just out of warranty for about half of what Dell told us it would cost and had it back to us within two days. They replaced a hard drive in a desk top, made a backup of everything on our disc, reinstalled the operating system — this in 3 days. And they have worked on diagnosing a problem we’ve had intermittently for a few months on another desk top. The first time they looked at that problem, they couldn’t duplicate the issue we were having but did a thorough cleaning and testing and gave it back to us at no charge. We began having the same problem today and took it back. Again, a thorough look, this time with the problem duplicated, and they looked at a fix for $ 20 and it was back to me in 4 hours. Their suggestion if the problem happens again is to send it in for service under warranty because they problem may be a problem with a RAM slot on the motherboard and although they can fix it, they said it wouldn’t be cost effective.
In addition, I took one laptop to them that had inexplicably quit working after being returned from mailed in warranty service. They immediately began looking at it and 5 minutes later discovered the problem was a loose screw. They reset the screw, handed it back to me at no charge, and it worked perfectly.
So, they have never kept any computer longer than three days, they have always returned my computers in better condition than when I brought them in, they are so inexpensive compared to other prices I have gotten for the same work, and their diagnostics are always free. I really wouldn’t take my computer any where else in Richmond.

I still have not had time to go down there but after repeated attempts to contact them about the issue with my phone AFTER they fixed it, still has not been resolved. I would certainly not recommend them to anyone if you want the work done right. Now there is even a crack in one corner of the phone and I have not dropped it or done anything to it which I find odd. It was just crappy work.

A friend recommended them to me and I will happily do the same in the future. They fixed my macbook lcd screen for half the price that Capital Mac was asking and did it in about 3 hours. It took Capital Mac like 4 days to even look at my machine and then they charged me $ 75 to tell me it would be $ 300 to fix. ALB is cheap, fast, and honest. Can’t ask for much more than that.

I ran in here after seeing it from driving down Main Street one day. My disc drive on my laptop had decided it wasn’t going to close anymore and it was starting to drive me nuts. Having not had a great experience with Geek Squad at a local Best Buy so I thought it best to take it somewhere not so corporate. I am glad I did. I walked in, told the owner what was wrong and he grabbed a disc drive (seemingly from a random pile of them) and had it up and running in 15 minutes! I gave him $ 20 bucks but he refused it… I slid it on his counter and left. I would say check this out if you need your PC or laptop repaired. I am satisfied, I hope you are as well.
