Big Herm’s Kitchen

Have been ordering from here for a couple of months and have enjoyed the food till today. The food was good but an hour after it was delivered from ordering on
Big Herm’s Kitchen called and accused us of not paying the driver. This was delivered to a office building. The Driver was paid and tipped with cash. If we did not pay for the food why did the drive give the food to us? Not good customer service when you call the customer and accuse them over the phone for not paying. The responsibility for this should go back to the driver as we did give him the money and he in return gave us the food we ordered. Overall not a pleasant experience when you have a business call you and state you did not pay them. This will be the last time we order from them.

I didn’t try every item on the menu, but my guess is it’s all very good. I tried several things however that include peach bread pudding, wings, sea food combo and they were perfect! The corn bread here is out of this world kind of good. I recommend highly!

I went there as I was moving into the area and I happened to be trying all the food places I could with my Co workers and this by far was the best in the area I tried in December 2015 with a group of 6 people. We all ordered something different and tried each others dishes. I could not find anything I tried to be distasteful or bland unlike the few paces nearby I had tried. I will be returning in the very near future when I’m not working at my newly formed restaurant nearby.

My absolute favorite comfort food place in Richmond. I almost always get the catfish basket and it never disappoints!

This place was amazing! We ordered the chicken finger basket and the shrimp basket and the loaded cheese fries, it was a ton of food! The highlight was definitely the cornbread, sweet, moist, and delicious. The service was great even down to giving me a courtesy call because they ran out of canned soda and upgraded me to a bottle at no cost. Definitely will order again!

I had the blue cheese and bacon burger and my wife had the blackened chicken sandwich. And both were beyond expectation… the taste was beyond words. The meat was perfectly cooked and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. We will definitely be back again.

I hate to do this because I LOVED Big Herm’s for so long.
Always got the chicken tenders, salads, and wings. Always excellent!
Except for this time…
The chicken tenders no longer have the loving breading/​crust that they previously had. Now, it’s just some sandy type of coating. Basically, the tenders are fried naked!
My chicken tenders were so dry! I couldn’t tell if they were just over cooked or had been frozen too long. They were tough and dry and scratched up the roof of my mouth. Not to mention didn’t have any seasoning at all. Kept trying to eat them, but eventually threw them away.
So sad.

Ordered delivery. Got a burger and fries with a side of potato salad and two drinks. The delivery was fast, but they forgot my drinks. The driver was nice about it though and went and got drinks from the drink machine. It wasn’t too bad, but the fries were soggy and the burger was a bit undercooked (for my liking). It was OK, but nothing special. The potato salad also had way too many onions in it and I like onions. It was worth a try, but for a first time ordering experience I probably will not order from them again.

I ordered delivery for lunch. The catfish and fries were good. I was unsure about the coleslaw and I was extremely disappointed in my pie. My sweet potato pie looked black and unappetizing. It appeared to be discolored and old. I tried to give it away and no one would take it.

One word. Delish!!! I’ve ordered for delivery from BHK twice now and both times I have been completely impressed. It’s great to have another option for the downtown RIC area.
The Blackened chicken sandwich is to die for. It’s very well cooked and arrived still hot and on time. The southern fried wings are perfectly crispy and seasoned very well. The cornbread at BHK is ON POINT. the Mac and Cheese reminds you of something you get in a southern Grandmother’s kitchen. And can we talk about those collards? Oh my!!! Definitely ordering from here again. Keep doing your thing BHK!

All I can say is… WOW!!! I ordered the wings (buffalo sauce) and a variety basket of Macaroni & Cheese, Potato Salad and Cornbread. Hands down, the BEST cornbread I have ever had and the wings were delivered crispy. Everything was delicious. Delivery was faster than expected during the lunch rush. Not one complaint. I look forward to trying many more items very soon!

I work downtown in Old City Hall and we get tired of the same stuff weekly. I used Unilocal to find places that deliver and we decided on BHK. Food was on time and still hot and it was delicious. I got the chef salad and it was humungous, the guys got burgers and they said it was great. We definitely found a new spot!

AMAZING food, but I will never order from here again. I was eating from here maybe three/​four times a month, but gave it up after one of the delivery drivers ripped me off a second time. The first time, I paid with a $ 20 for my $ 12 order and tipped him a couple bucks. But he had no change, so he said he’d «hook me up» next time. Not sure how that was even supposed to happen. I thought it was weird since he knew I was paying cash. So next time I paid cash, I asked that they bring change for a $ 20. Same thing happened. I brought up the fact that this is the second time he’s pulled this stunt. He went to go look for change in his car, but drove away. He never brought change back or discounted my order either. So, if you eat here, pay with a card or exact change and beware the delivery driver in the green Honda. Side note: this guy needs to be fired.

This is one of those places where the entire menu is good. One of my favs is their buffalo chicken sandwich.

It was great. I enjoyed my meal. I ordered the shrimp basket.
Only thing it, the wings should be full chicken wings, not wingettes, if you order the basket. The garlic patmeseam sauce is great, though.
I’m glad to know that the people that brought Richmond the restaurant named The Corner (on Leigh St.) years ago, are able to bring their great food back to the people, again.
I will return to get more.

Had never heard of Big Herm’s before today, ordered just to try something new, my co-​workers and I ordered, and OMG, it was delicious. the corn bread gave me life!!!

WOW! Ordered from Big Herm’s via GrubHub and was so pleasantly surprised, I’m ordering again today! I got the fried chicken sandwich with fries, and a side of the mac & cheese with drinks. One of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had, I love the pepper on the fries, the delivery driver was super friendly and it came much quicker than the quoted time, which is a miracle downtown. The mac & cheese was delicious– I want a big dish of it for Thanksgiving! The prices are also really great and I like that they have free delivery and minimum is only $ 10 since I’m ordering alone. The only reason I can’t give Herm’s 5 stars is because the chicken sandwich was pretty messy– instead of a flat or even whole breast, my sandwich seemed to be two tenders. I have nothing to say about the chicken itself, which is amazing, or the quality of the sandwich because I did devour it, it’s just putting tenders or a split breast on a sandwich like that makes it really hard to eat and I couldn’t really enjoy it like I wanted to because it was falling apart. It’s also pretty carb heavy so this isn’t somewhere I want to make a habit of ordering from, but all in all Big Herm’s is awesome and a new favorite for lunch.
*UPDATE* I know I literally just wrote this a few minutes ago, but my lunch came and holy friggin’ cow. This blackened chicken sandwich is everything… and the chocolate pound cake? It comes with a side of chocolate sauce (!!!) I had one bite and it was amazing. Still only 4 stars though– little inconsistencies. I ordered a Dr. Pepper and got a Coke, and the other day I got a can but today I got a 20oz? Oh well, more soda for me with this fabulous sandwich: D

Yesterday I thought it would be wise to take advantage of the Monday 50% of wings special. Because of my growing hunger, I decided to order 3 helpings of wings and specifically wanted all of the wings to be Southern Fried. When I received my order, only one helping of wings was Southern Fried, the other two were BBQ. On top of getting the order wrong, the BBQ wings were doused in BBQ sauce which made for a very messy eating experience. Needless to say, this will likely be the last time I order from Big Herms.

Big Herm’s is awesome. The online ordering is easy and you can specify when you want to pick it up or have it delivered via Quickness, the bike delivery service that is equally awesome. Search for the online ordering site, its different than listed above. They’ve always had my food ready on time and a nice person at the register.
The Monday ½ off wing deal is epic, I pick up wings for a couple people at the office. The hot wings are amazing and my coworkers have tried the other ones with good reviews. I’ve also had the blackened chicken sandwich and my girlfriend the fried chicken sandwich and they were delicious.
I haven’t explored the menu too far but what I’ve had has been excellent.

I had take out lunch from BHK today, a co worker drove to pick it up for me. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and sweet potato fries. I am a lover of all things quesadilla. And this place did a pretty good job. I took my chances ordering a quesadilla on takeout. Its much better fresh from the kitchen, no wait. But I wanted to try this place I took the risk. The sweet potato fries were another story. They put cinnamon on them… I didnt care for the cinnamon taste making the fries sweet like that. I love my sweet potato fries plain with a dab of salt. They were also pretty sooggy, that doubly (pretty sure thats not a word, but oh well) ruined the, for me completely. Nothing worse than soggy fries.
I will try them again, i can tell the foods good, just might not be a take out place for a quesadilla though.
