This is good BBQ at a good price. Nothing fancy inside but good Texas BBQ. Definitely worth you giving it a try!!!

I live in Houston but drive out to Richmond just to get Bar-B-Que and home made Sausage from Galvan’s. They make the best sausage around and bar-b-que is also out of this world. I am 71 hrs old and have eaten bar-b-que all over but this is one of the best. As an added bonus, the prices are lower than most all byat least 2 dollars a pound. The service is excellent. There are 2 ladies that have been there for years. They make me feel at home. Just good country folks. My wife and I eat there and then bring Bar-B-que, sausage, and Boudain home. It is great

Great place to get some sausage. Overall the Bar BQ is ok and not bad. But the sausage is delicious and the place is nice and small and simple. Its great to go in and grab some food and go quickly unless you come in the lunch rush because this place is a workers stop so all the workers stop in for their food. Pricing is not that bad either. Sausage has good flavor and taste.

Buttery beef sausage. I’m usually the brisket guy, and their brisket is ok(a little fatty, but you can order low fat for a little more) — but, Haleluiah! This sausage will get you daydreaming about the next time you can get by. The atmosphere is definitely 1950’s diner-like, but overall, I can’t wait till I can make an excuse to go back by and try something else(to go with my sausage)

Ok people it’s simple. This is a place for workers and passers by. It’s not gourmet bbq just good food at a decent price. Fat on the brisket? Easy, tell them to cut it off. Not hard. Of course there is better out there but it’s a good spot to grab a quick lunch during a hot day at work

My husband and I stopped to get some bbq for dinner and were very much dissatisfied. The brisket were extra fatty, the ribs were weak and bland and dry, and the sausage was extra dry and crumbly. The worst was the sausage because they broke apart before I can even get it to my mouth. Sides were below average as well. I would not go back to this place for bbq. Rather go down the street to swinging door.

Wasted my time by not being able to accept my debit card. These things happen but the lady didn’t take the time to enter the card information in, just kept repeating it doesn’t work. This is very poor customer service in my opinion. Now at CiCi and card worked fine. I won’t be wasting my lunch time at galvans again!

We just found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it despite negative reviews. We were hesitant at first because of its unassuming appearance but we’re so happy we did! We both had brisket sandwiches and the meat and sauce tasted great!

I still go to Galvan’s and I still think it’s some of the best(if not the best) bbq in the county. I laughed at the comment below from RS. Seems to me he has issues about bbq or perhaps he’s a competitor. I for one, have never tasted«cardboard» so I can’t comment on his statement. I think Unilocalers know good bbq. Either way, what can we expect from someone who comes from Washington DC. :) For the record, I’ve been to DC. I tried their bbq AND their Mexican food. Neither one was good.

We always stop in for lunch usually on a Saturday. Workers lunch specials and a few pounds of boudin sausage. Yummy! Very friendly even when they are busy.

Best damn bbq I have had in a long time. Sides are great and sausage is homemade. Brisket was tender and tasteful. Definitely slow cooked. Don’t miss this place.

One of my favorite places to get sausage in Texas. I usually stop in when I’m passing through the area and heading to south texas. I can’t resist getting a little of everything they serve. Cheap bbq sandwiches, and just a nice little hole in the wall to stop into. They have a few tables inside to sit and eat also. Usually order a root beer to wash down my bbq.

Love this place! I’ve never had anything bad. Just have to get there early, they do run out of items if they get busy.

Stopped with my wife today bc it looked packed and looked like a whole in the wall. We weren’t disappointed, briquet was super juicy and tender, sausage was the same and had an amazing pecan smoke taste. Highly recommend, and we will defiantly be back.

Decided to stop at Galvan’s for lunch on a Monday afternoon(apparently every other small business is closed on Mondays…). The outside appearance is cute, and paper signs in the door advertised some of the currently available specials. We walked in and noticed a few people grubbing on some barbecue. The menu is situated on the wall behind the counter, so we browsed, and finally chose the three meat plate. This included two sides(I chose greens and blank eyed peas), as well as three meats(brisket, house made sausage, and ribs), with white bread, pickles, and onions by choice($ 10.95 total). Plastic cutlery was available by the counter, but I did not notice this until after I sat down. Assorted sauces, paper towels, and a bottle of hand sanitizer decorated each table. In regard to the food, I was moderately impressed. The brisket was my favorite meat with tender smoky beef, but far too much fat. The beef sausage was a nice thought, but I felt that the meat did not have enough fat to have proper coagulation. The ribs were only mediocre, and a little too rough for my palate. I did enjoy the greens because they had a nice spice and seemed fresh, as well as the nicely thick BBQ sauce. The staff was sweet the whole time, and even came over to take some trash off our table while we finished eating. I feel that this restaurant truly deserves 3.5 stars. The price seemed somewhat escalated, especially considering that silverware was not available(that’s just a personal preference though). I did take a pecan brownie to go that was a tad dry with yummy flavor, so that helped raise my review score. Not entirely certain if I would visit again.

I don’t mind hole in the walls as long as the food is good. My party was disappointed with the food, price, and portions. Ordered: two 2 meat plates, ½ chicken, sausage wrap, brisket sandwich, Spanish rice, corn on the cob, beans, potato salad. The 2 meat plate was $ 9.25. I was expecting a heaping plate of food but didn’t get it. Instead I got 2 small pork ribs, 4 small slices of brisket, a little bit of beans and potato salad, 2 slices of bread, and a scattering of pickles & onions. The brisket sandwich didn’t have much meat. The brisket was tough & dry and the sausage was oily yet crumbly. The chicken and ribs were not too bad but nothing special. None of the sides were memorable. Except the corn on the cob– it was slathered with butter and then wrapped in Saran wrap. Wish it was plain & dry. Unfortunately it was a blah experience all around and we left hungry. Where’s the beef?!

I love hole in the wall BBQ places and I’m lucky enough to live close to this one. While stopping to pick up some New Year’s Fireworks next door(apparently this is a big tradition in our new neighborhood) I had to try some BBQ even though I was already smoking a brisket at home for New Year’s Eve, that’s how I roll. Brisket — Tender, good flavor, not much bark though. Ribs — excellent, I really liked their ribs. Great flavor, smoked perfectly. Sausage — Tried their beef, pork and jalapeño sausages and really liked all 3. I’m not a sausage person but I could become one with this places nearby. Sauce — I liked it, it went well with their brisket and I’m not a sauce person. Will definitely return.

For it not the annual trek of buying a Christmas tree, I would have missed Galvan’s BBQ altogether as it is sandwiched-in(no bun intended) between an Exxon gas station and a Tree business. Luckily for this procrastinator, the parking lot was jam-packed as people were buying up trees as if a hurricane were coming. Yet, as if the force itself were guiding me, Jedi Master Galvan telepathically leads me to an open parking space right dab in front of the restaurant. Not too sure if parking is for patrons only, before buying a tree, I decide on grabbing lunch just to make sure the truck is not towed. Upon entering I’m instantly impressed with the quaintly environment. Patrons and staff are on a first name basis, shaking hands as they enter, and even chit-chatting about local gridiron legend, Jacquizz Rodgers(Quiz as he is known around these parts). As an out-of-towner, the owner glances up from the chess board and greets me with a homely«Welcome to Galvan’s». Seeing a game of chess being played tapped at the force within and served as a reminder that things do not always have to be right, somethang’s can be wrong. As a chess hobbyist, my competitive juices started flowing as I imagined striking at the table, crushing my opponent with a brilliant queen sacrifice and delivering an annihilating Kasparovian mate in 1 if my opponent does not first resign. Oops, back to the review! I walk over the register and place my order, Brisket plate with 2 sides — pinto beans, potato salad — and a can of Pepsi for $ 9.06. My truck is safe, after realizing the owners of the tree business and the restaurant are the same so I comfortably take a seat and prepare to battle the plate in front of me and to watch other patrons play a game of chess while doing so. Delicious, the brisket is! Of beef and smoke, tickle the nostril the smell does. Any of the fat, I would guess they trim not. Ridiculously soft falling apart with the slightest of tug from the fingers, the slices are. Found in a bottle on the table, sauce is. Unnecessary, but is. For taste I add, a little. With each bite, the initial taste of sweet smokiness, is. Sweet, the sauce had, smoky flavor, as well. Good, the beans and potato salad are. Yummy, eh eh eh eh eh he he. With exceptional atmosphere, somewhat surreal, especially if you have long missed small town charm, I wholeheartedly recommending stopping by Galvans in historic Richmond, TX for some good ol’ fashioned BBQ.

First time at this place. After watching some MVF(Man vs Food) on TV seeing them eat BBQ made me hungry so jumped on Unilocal and decided to come try it. Just a hole in the wall like most have said already. I first ordered a 3 meat plate but found out it incuded spare ribs and knocked it off the order. Sorry I hate spare ribs. I much prefer the baby backs. So no review for that. Brisket was good good smoke flavor. They do cut it a bit thick for my liking it was like getting a roast then a slice of brisket but it was good. I would eat it again if i get a craving for BBQ. Sausage well like everyone else has said its crumbly. My guess is not enough fat content in it. Plus it was Saturday so my guess is Fridays left overs reheated. Has good smoke flavor but like i said crumbly. Beans are bland no flavor at all! May be they should try tossing in some of them burnt ends they gnaw off the brisket to give them something other then nothing. Potato salad… Well reminds me of store bought nothing special. Over all I rate it a 3 its ok, just not omg i have to go back and get me some more right now. Other places I have eaten at. Rudy’s(The best so far) Hinze’s Bar-B-Que(Bay City) Mustang Creek Barbecue(El Campo)
