I enjoyed this Chinese restaurant because they have appropriate food portions and it was priced great. General Tsos chicken was great and not overly saturated with sauce. Service was phenomenal. We received our food very fast.

Chinese American food is given a bad name sometimes, mostly because it is loaded with sodium and other things not found in fresh ingredients. «It is our goal to provide the finest, most healthful Chinese dining experience in Richmond and we guarantee it!» is Peking’s motto, and as strange as this sounds, I wonder if it is also their downfall. –Food: I ordered the Szechuan Chicken lunch combo which came with fried rice and a soup, which I chose to be Hot and Sour. First thing’s first, the soup is delicious. I’d order that any day of the week. However, the entrée itself was incredibly lackluster and the fried rice was rather bland. Some of the rice was a little crunchy and some of it was a little soft and mushy, almost like some was overcooked and some was undercooked, however that happens. The chicken pieces itself were tasty enough, but few and far between, and the szechaun sauce was neither spicy nor flavorful. I’m not against health food, healthier options are always welcome in my less than healthy normal lunches. My problem is when dishes lack in flavor, and I just found myself not enjoying my lunch. I don’t doubt that it wasn’t more healthy than other alternatives since it didn’t have that salty aftertaste, and the ingredients tasted pretty fresh, so that is a plus. –Cost: About $ 8 for the lunch combo. On par with other places in the area. –Service: We ordered takeout, and it seemed pretty fast(they delivered). –Overall: I didn’t hate Peking and I’d try it again. I think if I do, I’d probably go there in person, hoping that my experience was due to delivery take out. I would definitely get something different as well. I sadly have that feeling though that eating there isn’t going to make the food less bland, so I haven’t been back since.(Other than the Hot and Sour Soup, that was really good.)

My husband and I only went here because we didn’t have energy to go to the west end. I ordered Ma-Po Tofu. It is basically a whole container of chopped up raw tofu dumped in a brown sauce with a few frozen peas and carrot chunks. I found 2 water chestnuts pieces. It was not spicy as advertised. Not artfully prepared and not worth the money. The fortune cookie was so stale it had no crunch. I enjoy a wide variety of food, this was a huge disappointment, but I should have known better because it has been every other time we tried as well.

$ 35 for an order of fried rice, sesame chicken, and egg drop soup. I was disappointed when I saw the food, but hey, it’s the Chinese food I wanted and they delivered. It wasn’t until I was spitting out the –whatever meat they put in the sesame chicken– that I decided to write a review. Super disappointing, especially for the price. Go to Good Taste in west grace. It’s worth the pick up.

I was trying to find a Chinese place within walking distance. It is sad that this is the only place, short of driving to Carytown. I ordered take out, my food was ready in 5 minutes. Which should have been a big red flag. I got my general tso and fried rice, and found that compared to other places I have gone, Peking was the worst! I would recommend trying any other place.

I visited this restaurant yesterday and enjoyed(what I thought was a lovely meal). I could not finish my entrée and asked our waiter for a to-go container. This morning when I went to heat up my leftovers, I noticed what appeared to be a striped– shaped piece of rice with a black head. What was posing as a piece of rice in my leftover Chinese food was actually a cooked maggot! Needless to say, I will not be dining at this filth of a restaurant EVER again.

I’ll just be simple with this review. This place looks nice on the outside, but once you head inside, this place looks kind of sketchy and it is very old and in need of renovation. However, that shouldn’t steer you away from the quality of the food. The food at the Peking in Henrico is way, way better than here. some of the waiters are a little odd, and the food is marginal. I’m not really crazy about the food, but when I’m downtown and I want Chinese food, I’ll stop here just for a simple meal. Overall, Peking here in Richmond isn’t the best, but it hits the spot. I would definitely recommend the one in Henrico than the one here.

Unimpressed. Had beef and broccoli and it tasted like shrimp. Meat texture was mealy and gray looking. Broccoli was fine though. Chicken fried rice and lemon chicken were average. I got takeout and had to ask for utensils and napkins. No sauces either so don’t forget to ask. I wouldn’t go back. I guess they moved to the corner restaurant location but it looked more depressing than an office cafeteria

Do not waste your money or time. I don’t really understand why someone has allowed this formerly fine restaurant go down hill on so many levels. Having eaten here years ago(several times), it felt like a good choice when my husband and I found ourselves close by around dinner time. Big mistake. The interior furnishings have definitely deteriorated; worn carpet and booths that have seen much better days. On this particular evening, we dined early for dinner on a holiday. The entire time we were there, there were only two tables occupied and this included ourselves. Service was extremely slow. Husband’s soup was inedible. Crab Rangoon appetizer was clearly frozen before deep fried — no flavor. The chicken and shrimp dinner we ordered had more raw broccoli than anything else. And on top of all of this, the wait between each of the courses was ridiculous. With all of the competition amoung restaurants in downtown/Shockhoe Bottom, this restaurant cannot afford to rest on its previous reputation if it wants to stay in business. Very disappointed.

My partner and I ordered Sweet and Sour chicken as takeout this evening and while she enjoyed it, I was not content. One order was completely lacking pineapple and vegetables. The big complaint is that the chicken has absolutely NO flavor and is far too dry. Nothing about this dish was sweet or sour. My recommendation to out-of-town guests: Go elsewhere.

Very good experience! We came here on a Saturday night with a group of 15. When you have a group that large, you can almost expect to get orders messed up, very slow service, and inattentive servers, but this was not the case for us. Our drinks were never less than half full, and our orders came surprisingly fast. Some friends and I shared an order of crab rangoon. I’ve had better, but it was still good. For dinner, I ordered sweet and sour shrimp. They were delicious! The shrimp were large, crispy, and perfectly cooked. All orders came with a giant, communal pot of fried rice to be shared. I got a side of steamed, mixed veggies as well, which were also tasty, and prepared perfectly. Everyone ended up sharing a bit, and swapping food, and from my understanding everyone was very pleased! Also, the orders are very large! Almost everyone ended up with plenty to take home and enjoy later. There were a few hiccups with the bills — a few checks messed up. But with a group of 15, and individual checks, it’s expected. Overall, a very good experience. I kind of wish they were closer so I could enjoy those sweet and sour shrimp again!

I just ordered delivery, and everything was perfectly adequate. I got Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice, a veggie spring roll, and egg flower soup. Soup and chicken are totally tasty, the veggie spring roll was a bit mushy but decent, and there is SOMUCHFOOD. I’ll have plenty for at least one more meal. Definitely worth it for the convenience and ease of ordering. It arrived in 25 minutes. It’s also worth noting that the lady I spoke to on the phone spoke very good English; since my beau has food allergies he worries about ordering through a language barrier. I don’t think that will be a problem here!

Peking is a solid choice for takeout or dine-in. I usually go for some sort of fried rice. The people are friendly, and the food is fast and pretty good.

I only go here for lunch and it’s always FANTASTIC. They are Johnny on the spot with the water and know exactly how to handle the lunch rush. The food is typical Chinese take-out stuff but it hits the spot. Your mileage may vary but for a quick lunch in Shockoe Bottom I have no complaints. :)

I’ve only ordered sweet and sour chicken the few times I’ve gone to this restaurant and it has been amazing! Not like the usual take out kind of food– I’m eager to go back again!

Tried Peking again for dining in, and still only two stars. Definitely not going back again. We had a buffet dinner, and I only ate half the food on my plate. The beef lo mein made me gag. If I hadn’t been surrounded by professional colleagues who were pretty much strangers, I would have spit out the chewy, gross piece of beef. The noodles had a very strange flavor, and I couldn’t eat more than two bites. The pork dumplings seemed packaged, not fresh, but I’m not really sure. They just weren’t good. The only actually good food were the egg rolls. Crispy, full, crunchy veggies, not too greasy. Otherwise, no thank you, Peking, I’ll be getting my Chinese food elsewhere.

General Tso and Sweet & Sour Chicken is so fresh and flavorful. The amount of breading on each is just right and not overbearing. I have been here a few times and these dishes are consistently great.

After many of the nearby restaurants having super long waits, we stopped in here. They seated us right away. The first thing you notice here is the décor. It’s a little outdated and getting to the bathroom is truly a maze. The service was excellent. Our server was beyond helpful and my water glass never got more than half empty. The food was surprisingly good(based on the décor, we didn’t have high expectations). The honey sesame chicken was in the most delicious honey sauce. The beef and broccoli was very good, not too greasy at all. The prices were pretty average for a dinner. Overall, I would go back here if I were in the area again. I would like to try their lunch specials sometime.

Stopped in here for lunch while in Richmond. The one thing that stands out about this place is the décor, and not necessarily in a good way. I’m all for capturing the authenticity of a chinese restaurant, but the décor gave off more of a 1980’s vibe than anything. Anyway, food wise the place was good. Nothing crazy, but good. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and a spring roll. The spring roll was actually pretty good. It could have been hotter, but it was good. The Kung Pao was decent but not nearly as good as some I’ve had in my life. It could have been both a little sweeter and spicier. But none the less, it was decent. Service was very fast and on point. This place makes for a great place to have a quick lunch and be out in 25 – 30 minutes.
