Very nice location, great experience! Liberty was a great help. Helping with my appointment and insurance. Dr. Amy was so professional and kind.

Had my first visit today based on recommendation of a relative. Very friendly, professional staff, modern equipment (which made dilating my pupils for exam unnecessary). My concern was more related to general eye health rather than vision, and Dr. Yu was great at explaining what the results of the different tests meant. I’ll definitely go back.

Customer service is excellent here. Katrina, Lisa, Dr. Asmus, and Dr. Yu have been caring and just wonderful to work with. Everything seems very clean, and patients are well-​cared for. Because I live in the neighborhood, they are a convenient location for me to get my eye exam done. I really like the folks here, but unfortunately it’s likely I will never purchase my contacts from them again. Purchasing from an online retailer would have been more convenient.
The 3 stars come from the fact that it has taken almost 4 weeks for my contacts to be delivered. I ordered a year’s supply of contact lenses on December 10, 2015, and I had to contact Point Richmond Optometry last week to ask if they could update me on the progress of my contacts since it had already been over 2 weeks.
When I initially ordered my contacts, I was told it would take a week to receive my contacts, but they just arrived at the office today. In 3 more days, I would have been waiting for 4 weeks. That is totally unacceptable. I understand the contacts are ordered from a third party, but to have me waiting with no updates on my order — that just isn’t right.
By the time I called last week, apparently my shipment of contacts had already been lost for a week, but I hadn’t been notified and I hope Point Richmond Optometry was also not notified because I would be even more disappointed. It wasn’t until I called that Lisa reached out to the manufacturer to expedite another shipment of contacts for me. Where is the initial shipment from Dec 10? I have no idea.
Now the contacts are here, but the office is already closed, and I won’t be able to pick up the contacts until Wednesday when their business hours stay open later. I’ve been wearing the same contacts for about 6 weeks now, so I can’t wait to pick up my new contacts on Wednesday!

I’m new to wearing glasses and have a lot of questions. The staff was very helpful in answering every one.

Dr. Asmus is great, the staff are friendly and professional, the office is convenient to where I live and it’s easy to make an appointment. I’ve been seeing Dr. Asmus for years and have recommended friends and family to this practice.

I’m a long time patient of Dr. Asmus. She was recommended to me as someone who could handle «highly sensitive» patients. Trust me, «highly sensitive» doesn’t begin to fully describe how difficult it is for me to handle having light shined in my eyes. Dr. Asmus got me into contacts (a major feat, trust me) over 15 years ago and I’ve been with the practice ever since. They have the latest technologies to view your retinas so I no longer have to have my eyes dilated. The air puffer machine and I still have «issues» but I digress.. . The entire staff is top notch and friendly. I live in SF but make a point going to Point Richmond because I can’t imagine finding this level of service and professionalism anywhere else.

I saw Dr. Yu a few days ago for a concerning change in my vision. I was able to get an appointment the next day and left reassured as she is very thorough in her questions, testing and exam. As a healthcare provider myself I highly recomment Dr. Yu and will absolutely be seeing her again if the issue progresses. The office staff is friendly and professional, the office is lovely, and they have a very good selection of lenses (with a 50% off sale coming up)!

Dr. Yu is fantastic. She is extremely thorough and is prompt in getting back to you on any outstanding issues. The facility is very clean and the staff is extremely friendly and polite.

For decades I went to a highly regarded doctor in Berkeley who’s way up there in the optometry world, and I thought I was happy. But when I stopped driving about 3 years ago it became a big hassle to get from Point Richmond where I have lived for 23 years to Berkeley. One day, walking the two blocks home from lunch at the Hotel Mac I noticed an optometry practice right next to the Post Office. I had walked by it 10,000 times and never really seen it. But that day I did, and I am so glad.
The warm, personal, and highly professional care I have received here is truly second to none. These women are awesome. I ask a LOT of questions, and they all, including Dr. Yu who does my exams, explain things well and answer patiently. And they are so friendly… whether I am stopping in to get some eye cleaner or get something adjusted for the fourth time, they greet me by name and make me feel welcome.
I totally trust Dr. Yu, and feel empowered to make good decisions about my eye care as I age, because she explains everything so thoroughly. I never ever feel rushed.
So I agree with everything I read in the other 5-​star reviews, which incidentally is how I had the courage to switch doctors… every review I saw when I noticed their existence and checked them out on Unilocal was 5-​star. If I could give them 500 stars I would.

Point Richmond Optometry took great care of us for my son’s first pair of eyeglasses. He felt like he was picking out just the glasses that he wanted.
We’ve received outstanding care from our first visit onwards. The staff remember us by name, and have been diligent and timely with any feedback or inquiry. Getting the handwritten card from Dr. Yu was just the extra touch.

I have been coming here for almost 10 years and have never left a review. …this place is great… family friendly, helpful, and makes sure you are satisfied. I have been a loyal customer and plan to stay. They have convenient times and can accommodate everyone in one visit if needed. I give them 5 stars because I have never had a problem with their quality, service or cost.

They do a great job here. Dr. Way Yu always does an efficient thorough exam and is such a nice person to work with. The folks up front have always been willing to help me find glasses look good. I live in the area and feel lucky to have such a nice optometry office nearby. Can’t say enough good things!

Dr. Asmus was the most thorough, knowledgeable eye doctor I’ve ever been to. Add to that her lovely personality and great support staff and you’ll see why I want to recommend this place to everyone.
We recently relocated and I am starting my search for all the professionals one needs in one’s life. I read glowing reviews of this office here on Unilocal and I can fully agree with all of them now that I’ve had my own visit.
I’ve been having issues with my vision that has frustrated me and sent me from doctor to doctor and eventually to getting Lasik surgery — twice. This was by far the best experience and I really feel like Dr. Asmus cared about finding out everything that is causing my issue.

Dr. Asthmus and her friendly, efficient staff are top notch. They have state– of– the-​art advanced equipment and have always managed to find me an appointment despite my awkward travel schedule.

I’m a lousy patient. I’m late. I show up on the wrong day. I blink at the exact moment the puffer thing puffs. With such a lengthy track record of blunders, one might expect eye rolling and teeth gritted smiles when I walk in the door. Instead, Katrina, Liberty and Lisa greet with open-​armed courtesy. No joke. You will not find a more professional customer facing team than this threesome.
The eye service? ²⁰⁄₂₀. Because I’m a bumbling fool with calendar problems, I’ve had an opportunity to work with both, Dr. Asmus & Dr. Yu. These doctors are at the top of their games, executing with state-​of-​the-​art equipment and perfect bedside manner.
Stuck in traffic? The office open until 7pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Dr Asmus and her team are fantastic on all levels. Professional, friendly service with the most modern technology. I can’t imagine going elsewhere.
