I had R&S Erection of Richmond fixed my double garage door when one of the torsion spring broke and damaged a cable that put the door out of balance, Marcos & Juan showed up on scheduled apt, I find they both are expert in garage doors, very knowledgeable and fast, a job that I couldn’t have done it myself, they point out the problems and give me an option to replace certain parts as to their recommendations, we end up replaced 2 new pull cables, 2 torsion springs and re-​balance the door, after everything was done, they tested and made all necessary adjustments, all were done within 2 hours and they did a well clean up around the working area, my garage door now works flawless and running more quietly up and down the track, I highly recommend this company for your garage repair needs :)).

Excellent service for many years. Latest call for a quirky wood door that wouldn’t open properly resulted in Marco’s taking the time to call the shop for a background check that resulted in a replacement of springs under warranty, no charge. Was told to expect that our motor will poop out any any time but no pressure to replace it today. We appreciate the prompt and thorough service. Wouldn’t go anywhere else for garage door sales and service.

Dishonest and incompetent technician. Failed to make simple adjustments for a residential roller garage door when called for servicing. Maliciously maladjusted the door motor. Attempted to sell us a new motor, although the door unit did not need a new motor. Not recommended.

Over five years ago they installed new electric garage doors that looked fabulous. The neighbors were deeply impressed, never my priority, but quite the surprise.
Fast forward to widowhood, shockingly not being as strong and agile in my 70s as earlier, being unable to reset the keypads for that reason, and being beyond broke. In a hurry and stressed out, I left the only set remote in the garage and completely forgot about the external key. Kayla was calm on the phone and promised she’d send a crew over first chance.
Within four hours of same day call Marco arrived. He was calm, patient, and pleasantly asked if the key for the front possibly existed as his might or might not work. No whiff of patronizing or disgust over my age and ADHD behaviors, an exception for the majority of young men encountered now. He asked why I had been trying to reset the keypads for over a year myself without any charge or judgement, and hearing, «Broke!» said he might be able to open the door for free. My choice was for him to help me reset the keypads and he suggested he replace the batteries in the keypads and the two remaining remotes. Marco was kind, patient, respectful, helpful, with nil pressure, no judgement, and he worked super fast as well. He explained the details of the charges which were less than expected. Marco’s exceptional service and attitude reflects the young men who installed the garage doors as well. I am a loyal customer of a great company with an exceptional representative like Marco. Calling Kayla back to tell her that, she was enthusiastic and positive too. Woo hoo!

Outstanding Service.
The spring on our garage broke and of course the garage would not open. So my wife calls me and informs me of the problem. I give her the R&S number to call since our experience with Marco back in June was great in every aspect. She called R&S and the admin on the other side of the line was friendly and helpful. She said to expect the tech between 3:30 — 5:00. As I was driving home from BART we were fortunate to get Marco again. COOL… It was 5:00pm on a Friday and I am sure he wanted to get home, but you would never know it. He gave us once again outstanding, professional service. My wife says from now on she will ask for him specifically. He very obvious enjoys his work and helping others, even in the small things. As long as Marco is at R&S we will continue to call R&S. Believe me this is not exaggeration, concerning his service. We are dealing with another vendor on a different issue and their customer service is HORRIBLE. So we had a direct comparison. Keep up the excellent work Marco I hope R&S sees your value and rewards accordingly.

Quality work and fair prices. Marco from R&S came out on time and installed a new garage door opener in less than 2 hours.

My recent experience with this company was excellent, but I would like to add that several years ago I diagnosed a problem with my garage door opener, and found that I just needed one part. The manager/​owner was very pushy and insisted that I needed to have a complete system installed. I gave up arguing, and went to the company’s Oakland (?) office, which sold me the part I needed, with no fuss.
This time, my old opener had finally «given up the ghost». R&S (Richmond) quoted me an excellent price, and did a great installation job, without trying to sell me any extras. In fact, the technician pointed out a mistake in the original installation, which he remedied. In addition, the manager dropped by to check the finished installation.
Maybe the management has changed.
Update, 5 months later. I’m back to saying: «Don’t buy parts from this office». I lost a remote for my door opener and called them, thinking that they could order a duplicate from my installation invoice no. and details. They couldn’t, and needed the model no. from the 2^nd remote. It took 4 weeks and several phone calls to arrive, during which time I was given wrong information 3 times. The final article was not the one I ordered, but a simpler version, which did what I wanted, though. However, no one had asked me if the simpler model would be OK. Also, I accept that a local vendor will cost more, but I was charged 3x Amazon’s price. That’s absurd.

I recently began experiencing problems with my garage door opener. It was 13 years old and was heavily used daily by five of us. The mechanism on the rail would jerk, then fail to close the door. R & S had originally installed the garage door and opener. I called for an appointment and was immediately accommodated for Saturday morning.
John and Brandon (Brendan) arrived at my home and patiently listened to the problem I was experiencing. After assessing the mechanism and movement, John made some minor adjustments and it seemed to work fine. He fully explained potential causes for the problem and let me decide if I was comfortable with the remedy.
There was absolutely no high pressure sales or inkling of being rushed. I decided that I wanted the garage door opener changed since it was over a decade old and I didn’t want to take a chance of a repeat problem. I asked for a new garage door opener to be installed asap. John and Brandon smiled and immediately went to work. They were fully prepared with all the necessary hardware. No corners were cut, old brittle wiring was replaced, my garage was left as clean as when they arrived. The warranty and operation of the opener was fully explained to me.
I am always very wary of any service repairs for any home related services to ensure I am not being pushed to purchase something I don’t need .
I have dealt with R & S four times in 26 years, and each and every time I received excellent service and full value for the money spent.

You have to understand business to understand why they charge what they charge. If you had a business that had to supply your people health insurance, property and yard that you had to rent, trucks to maintain, office staff to pay not to mention workmans comp and lilability insurance do you really think you got over charged? Most companies are not owner operated where they bid the work and do the work along with all the billing collecting of the projects they completed. They would have to shut the doors of your business because $ 250.00 does sound expensive untill you take the overhead it takes to run a business. I dont do doors but I am in the construction field and we have a minumin charge of $ 650.00. its very hard to keep a business running on a $ 250.00 service call. Not to mention you were stuck in the garage with your car and they were right over to heolp you out. i would of given the installers a tip!

Buyer Beware! They have one hand on your wallet and the other on your garage door… But let me tell you about my experience with them. My heavy steel garage door wouldn’t go up. I called R&S to come out. And I must say that the office person I spoke to seemed nice and caring and tried to get them out as soon as possible. (My car was trapped inside.) She even diagnosed the problem (a broken spring) correctly as it turned out. And she told me the price for a new spring $ 219. Well, I guess if that’s what it costs — that’s what it costs.
So they came out that afternoon and in about 15 minutes they installed the spring — which I surely did need — but here is where it gets bad…
As I was writing the check for the $ 219 plus tax — the service man said to me, «Since we’re here — do you want the door lubed?»
«Do I need it?» I asked.
«Well, you just had the springs installed. We recommend it.» He answered. «It costs $ 25.» He replied.
So here is where I pictured him getting a big grease gun out of the truck and oiling up the newly installed spring. Maybe a 15 minute job — that’s what I pictured, but not what I got.
What I got was a job that took LESS THAN ONE MINUTE. His assistant got a little Ace Hardware can of spray oil out of the truck and sprayed the eight little wheels on the track the door rolls up on. And that was $ 25. Gee, at that rate their labor is about $ 1500 a hour! After what should have been an expensive, but good, experience they left me feeling like a ripped off old fool.
