I picked this outdoor rink for our first time ice skating. I have had no other experience with any other rinks but this seemed to fit us perfectly. When we arrived, the process to get started was very organized and quick. We had to fill out waivers at a separate table and then take them to the cashier to pay(what I thought was super affordable $ 5) the entry fee. We then walked down the aisle to get our ice skates. The person that designed this process really knew what they were doing. Extremely seamless and quick! Once we walked outside, they had a step and repeat for us to take pictures in front of which was an adorable touch. Then they had a comfortable tented area for us to change into our skates. My only complaint would be that I didn’t feel super comfortable leaving anything but our shoes out but oh well. Luckily, I hadn’t brought my entire purse. The rink was not crowded at all which fit us first timers perfectly. No one was getting run over by the other experienced skaters and my girls had plenty of room to figure out how to skate. After 2 times around, I was done(ice skating is a work out for me) so I was able to exit and stand and watch my kids as they went around and around safely. They had a firepit with log seats on one side and a huge food truck on the other. I did have to pay for parking which annoys me but sometimes I just give up finding street parking in the city. I’m looking forward to coming back to this rink every year!

I always wanted to check out RVA on Ice. I decided to stop by and try to ice skating for the first time. I’m always willing to try something fun at least once. The admission and ice skate rentals are reasonably priced. The ice skating rink is located outside at 7th& Broad St. There’s street parking and a parking deck near the rink. I have a new found respect for ice skating because it’s tough in my opinion. I had a ton of fun trying to ice skate. I held onto the border for safety! Hopefully with practice I will get better each year. The hours vary, so check the website. The staff was professional and very polite. There’s a fire pit outside the rink for skaters who are cold. RVA on Ice has beautiful scenery because you’re ice skating in the heart of Downtown Richmond. A lot of families were at the rink ice skating. The food options on site are limited but its restaurants nearby. RVA on Ice was a cool experience. It’s a good choice for fun ice skating in RVA(all levels). I give RVA on Ice a 4.5 rating rounded up to a 5.

RVA on Ice is a nice way to spend some time in the cold outdoors to socialize and get some exercise. Ice skating for me has always been one of those rare treats(something I do maybe once every 7 years) that always makes for a memorable time. Because RVA on Ice is a «portable» rink that disappears when the season does, it’s not a «full-service» experience. There’s nowhere to sit if you want to take a break. The seating area is pretty much only big enough to accommodate those coming and going, putting on/taking off skates. There’s nowhere to put your shoes or other belongings, so ladies, don’t bring a big purse or anything you can’t carry with you while skating. And the bathrooms are port-o-potties. Yep. The rink itself is small, and the ice not only has dips in it, but it’s also bumpy and has slushy accumulation around northwest edge. So be careful! They have two EMS personnel on site, but they make you sign a waiver! They do have a food truck there with standard junk food options, including smores! Admission is $ 5. Skate rental is $ 5. Just keep your expectations low, and you’ll have a good time.
