This store has lots of cute things. We don’t like generic things, and like that you can find real items here. The store is well stocked with lots of trinkets and cutesy products. We mainly stick to the right-​hand side of the store where all the Hello Kitty stuff sits. We love Sanrio items; especially, if they are practical. The prices are normal, and you can find lots of Hello Kitty products that are not so easy to find at other stores.

My friend and I were bored so we started wandering into the stores in Pacific East mall. I was surprised when I stumbled upon this store because I wasn’t expecting much from this store. This store carries lots and lots of Hello Kitty stuff here along with stuffed animals and other things. They have huge Hello Kitty stuffed animals which would make great gifts. I would definately recommend coming here to get a gift for a little girl.

There are a lot of cute chachkahs here. I like this store because it’s manageable but also has a good selection of every favorite icons, like Hello Kitty and Angry Birds. You don’t feel totally overwhelmed.

We took our 2 ½ year old grandson to Saigon for Phở couple weeks ago, and it quickly became apparent that he was not going to sit and behave himself… so I ran over to Something Special with an innovative idea in mind: trainer chopsticks. and yes, they had several to choose from. I quickly purchased the dinosaur-​headed pair and ran back to the restaurant.
My grandson was delighted! For the first time in that child’s short history, he sat quietly and ate the entirety of his delicious noodles with his trainer chop-​sticks making for a blissful, albeit messy, lunch.
I have otherwise purchased many other little things for stocking stuffers and gifts in the past and always find something interesting for the kids in my life, as well as myself (an ugly doll wallet, for instance, which I love!)
Three cheers for Something Special for having just was I needed at just the right time!

I found this place using the search link on the Sanrio web page. I was delighted to find it in the Pacific East Mall, so close to home. I didn’t have to travel all the way to San Francisco for Hello Kitty items. This store has a lot of Hello Kitty merchandise. I looked at all of them, couldn’t decide what to buy, being careful not to overspend. The couple there were friendly. I will go back again soon!

Located inside the Pacific Mall in Richmond, there is Hello Kitty items galore here. Everything I cared to check seemed to be true Sanrio, even Sanrio Germany? A quick glimpse inside reveals a sea of pastel colors, most predominantly pink. They don’t have a lot of floorspace, but what space they do have, they stack to the 10’s with inventory.
The selection ran the gamut of little trinkets. Paper fans, incense holders, small bowl sets, cloth carryall bags, stuffed animals, umbrellas, fuzzy thick blankets, small handbags, and hairclips.
It’s a little girly girl’s dream come true. For everyone else, it’s more of a morbid curiosity to browse through the selection here.
I just don’t understand why the background music choice was italian opera both times I stopped by.

When I feel like getting my Hello Kitty fix I go here. It’s the closest place to me that carries Hello Kitty stuff. The two owners remember me and some times give me a deal depending on what I buy… Which is sweet of them.
They also carry beanie babies, car accessories, hair products, knock-​off handbags and some home appliances. Strange combination, but what do you expect from a store called Something Special?

This is a wonderful little store. They have everything from stationary, purses, pens and jewelry. The prices are reasonable– cheap actually but their quality is not cheap by any means. The owner (I believe) is a very cordial, nice woman. I didnt feel rushed or that I was being watched. She was very pleasant. I will be returning soon to stock up on more pens

In the otherwise ordinary and pedestrian Pacific Mall/​Ranch 99 of Richmond, Something Special specialty gift shop really is a diamond in the rough. The sheer amount of merchandise is overwhelming at times but the owners/​proprietors (who I believe are Korean) are truly two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet as they’re always incredibly warm, friendly, and genuine even though English isn’t their first language.
Sanrio, Beanie babies, Kerope, and other cute asian import gifts are plentiful in supply and a lot of times they’ll have special seasonal items too. Recently we saw Angry Little Girls being offered and their offering of air freshners and other car accessories is second to none.
Finally their prices are significantly less than many other similar stores that might carry some of the same items. If you’re looking for a true «Mom/​Pop» shopping experience with a great selection of merchandise, great prices, and of course the cutest/​friendliest proprietors in East Bay definitely stop by here and check it out and you’ll enjoy the visit even its just to window shop…

Nevermind about the dinginess and cold looking-​ness that I wrote about in my last review; I walked by today and they got new lighting! They even got some Christmas lights, but it’s tasteful.
And they definitely got a ton of new inventory; it’s a pretty decent-​sized store, but it’s overflowing with cute, pink, fluff, sparkles and other shiny objects!
