Strange’s Florists Greenhouses & Garden Centers

Terrible Business and most expensive in town for plants and flowers. I bought over $ 150 in flowers to plant and they all died. The few I wasn’t able to get in the ground I brought back with receipt expecting that the flowers I brought in would serve as an example for the condition of the others. That was not the case, they’re so cheap they would only give me a refund for the ones I brought in and they want me to dig all the other dead ones up and bring in if I want a refund for those. I think that’s absurd as I’ve already spent the better part of a day planting them and will never get that back.
I have had a few similar experiences previously but this one set me over the edge bc I was reluctant to spend my money there to begin with. I WILL NEVER MAKE A PURCHASE HERE AGAIN!!!

What an awesone customer service team! You know that hoarding gean we’ve been trying to overcome? I found a gift certificate… dated 1996! And it was honored. A great thank you to a fantastic crew and an awesone florist. Come see their unique inventory. The ‘silk’ flowers are the best quality!

I sent my wife flowers for our anniversary and opted for one of the pre-​sorted arrangements. Website was simple enough to use, confirmation came, all looked fine.
$ 55 for flowers + $ 10 Delivery fee+ $ 3 extra for delivery before the office closed.
Add tax and we are right at $ 70
Result: The smallest bouquet of roses I have ever seen. She brought them home on the second day and they were already starting to wither and brown.
I went with Strange’s because I want to try and support local businesses whenever I can however, I believe they are trading on name recognition alone.
I hope I may serve as a cautionary tale, my advice would be to shop around!

Last week I visited Strange’s for the first time. I decided on the spot I needed to redo my front yard and replace some overgrown and mismatched bushes.
Kevin was the first to greet me as I arrived and answered every question I had about the plants I liked and which might perform best with the light exposure on my front lawn. He knowledge about the plants was like looking up each plant on Google! This was customer service at it’s best. He helped me pick the right plant for my desired landscape look. Then he took the time to explain how to plant them and what type of fertilizer I should use.
The plants were priced very reasonably. Once I was ready to leave, Kevin then loaded the plants and bags of fertilizer in the back of my vehicle!
I will return here on my next yard project, no doubt. Great Job Strange’s and Kevin.

Wow. This is hard to write. For years, Strange’s was my go to spot for upscale gardening. Loved their water garden plants.
Well, this review is on the florist side of the business. It hurt. Bad. It was my 25^th anniversary. You know how important that is? How many opportunities you get to do that as a do over? Yeah, better get it right the first /​only time.
So, I was thinking ahead. That was novel for me. Over a week ahead of time, I go to
to place my order. I was off on a business trip and wasn’t going to be home for my own 25^th anniversary. It’s important that I go overboard and have quality flowers delivered. So I go to Stranges and order 2 dozen. Ok, they didn’t do it by the stem (or I couldn’t find it) so this was close enough. And a couple dozen roses has a huge love quotient on them.
Yeah, you know the end of the story. Didn’t happen. My wife was very pleased with the dozen roses. Even texted me a picture and they were. Only problem was that they were far short of what I ordered and was charged.
Here’s what is important: five times they had the opportunity to get it right and not once did it work. Yeah, five times to cure this and it never worked. That’s a systemic failure. I will NEVER trust an important order to them. There’s too many local and on-​line competitors for that.
First off, when I ordered online I entered the date of our anniversary, chose two dozen and in the notes said: «Two dozen roses for our 25^th anniversary».
Number 2: Several days after the order, I got a voice mail asking if I wanted them as two separate dozen roses or as one large bouquet. I scratched my head why the note didn’t work, but I called back and left a message: «25^th anniversary, I want two dozen. One bouquet fine». I didn’t get a call back confirming. So, I went to bat again and left a second message. Still no return call, but hey — I still had faith.
Number 3: The day of the anniversary: wife loved the dozen, I secretly bummed I missed the mark and paid a LOT. I confirmed on-​line that I was charged for the 24, but only got 12. So I called in. This was good. Hope you’re still with me. I told the person on the phone that there was a mistake on my order. I ordered 24 and 12 was delivered. She said, no my order was wrong. I said, no someone changed my order. She stalled. Could someone change an order? No, you ordered 12. I said no, I ordered 24 and my card was charged for it. She said to hold on and I waited for a very long time.
Number 4: Manager came on line. Admitted that they changed it and the notes the phone person put were «wants one arrangement». How did that turn from an arrangement of 24 to 12. I still had hope at this time. The manager said that they would send the other 12. Woo hoo! Tomorrow. What? Late to my 25^th anniversary? You know how your wife is going to take that. After 25 years of white lies, she’s going to think I fubar’d the order. Not this time. The company I had most trust in failed me and wanted to come by the next day. And it was still 11:00am. I asked him nice if he would and he said no, they’ve already gone out and he’s not going to do it. Wow, they made the mistake, admitted it, failed three (maybe four) times and this is customer service? Said fine, send me a refund and I called Company B to send an emergency dozen over.
Number 5: Week later, I check my card. Guess what? Yeah, they refunded one dozen roses and nothing on the delivery. If you order shoes from Zappos and they send you one, what’s that worth to you? Order a suit and get the pants, that have much value? You get the point. They could come get it if they wanted, I was already forced to go somewhere else to cure the problem. My only option was to dispute the credit card fee. First time in my 50 years I’ve disputed a card. They agreed and I had to force my way to a refund.
Way too much drama on a major life milestone. I had trust in their brand and they didn’t even come close in the floral department.

My son and I went here to get flowers for his girlfriend for prom. You can only choose from ten standards designs and then choose the ribbon color. I was concerned about matching the eggplant color of my son’s girlfriend’s dress since there are so many colors of purple so I suggested my son choose a silver ribbon. The attendant said purple would look better. I explained my concerns, but she was reassuring. The ribbon didn’t end up matching. The flowers were really spent by the end of the evening. $ 16 for the lackluster corsage.

If you are a daisy lover like me don’t buy them here. I think Kroger has a better bouquet of daisies and fresher. Really!!! This place is not cheap either and for the second time my niece and nephew send me daisies from here and they were dead and old. I’m so mad cause I want this bouquet to last me for more than one day !!!

My boyfriend has decided to grow us a garden this year, so we stopped in to see what they had. Their pre-​sprouted plants were cheaper than the seeds we had bought and had to start ourselves. Why had we waited so long to stop in here? They have everything. EVERYTHING! This place is huge. Flowers for your yard, plants for your garden, herbs to keep the bugs away, cut arrangements when you need a few brownie points, lawn décor, seeds. Any outdoor enthusiasts needs to make a trip here first. I see more visits in our future.

Came here on 1÷22÷14 4:30 after reading all these great reviews and I was very disappointed. I was visiting VA and needed flowers for a family. As I walked in I saw 4 employees, none who greeted me and stayed away from me. But they did see me.
As I tried to find my way around the place, I went into the cooler to look at flowers. I guess I left the door open cuz one of the male employees came and closed the door, while I was inside. Rather than come inside and ask if I need help, he just closed the door and walked away.
The choice and variety of of the pre-​made arrangements was lacking and prices were high. Because of that and since no one cared to help me, I walked out and went to Whole Foods. Bought three sets of flowers from there, went home and made my own arrangement. Family loved the flowers I got for a much lower price.

Love this place for everything for the house and garden. We frequent Stranges throughout the year for all of our plants and garden needs; the staff is super helpful and more than willing to talk through ideas with you. Plus they have the cutest gifts and trinkets for décor for the house!

Be ready to be overwhelmed. By nature, by beauty and by any type of plant, flower or tree you can imagine.
I have been to Strange’s a few times over the years to pick up flowers. I love that you can choose from pre-​made bouquets or enter their giant flower fridge room and create your own arrangement. To me, that’s super fun AND it makes a bouquet more personal. However, last weekend was the first time I’ve ever entered the greenhouse section of the store, and I was not at all prepared for the amazingness that awaits customers with a green thumb.
Rows and rows of flowers, trees, and houseplants stretch way farther than I would have expected. If that’s not enough for ya, exit the greenhouse to the left and you’ll find fruit trees and lots of other outdoor plants to explore. I was there for at least an hour and half and still didn’t have time to fully explore the entire shop.
I would recommend setting aside a good chunk of time when visiting the greenhouse, unless you know exactly what you’re looking for before arrival. And if you need a pick me up, head to Strange’s. The colors and patterns of some of the flowers will leave you in awe of the amazing natural beauty in this world. It might even inspire a novice to pick up gardening. Well, it had that affect on me at least. I’ll let you know how that turns out…

Strange’s seems to have anything and everything you could need/​want for your garden and yard. Their huge facility is loaded with tons pots, planters, anything plant related, herbs, veggies, perennials, annuals and trees… anything you could want. While some of their prices are ever-​so-​slightly higher than Lowes/​Home Depot, they have a larger selection. For example, you might be able to find a Camelia at Home Depot, but they may only have one color when Strange’s has several colors.
Strange’s staff is also super helpful and knowledgable… I am always asking questions like, «so, what’s the difference between this pepper and that pepper and which is best for my needs?» And, they seem to always know and if not, they find someone who does.
Strange’s is truly a candy land for yard and garden lovers!

Very helpful staff and good selection. You can get plants cheaper at other places, but if you have questions this is the place to go.

Strange’s is a beautiful place to be, and as someone pointed out, many people think it is just a florist, but there are two locations with a garden center, greenhouse & nursery. This location is the biggest, and the greenhouse alone will take your breath away when you see it. Its huge!
While Strange’s has a fantastic selection of plants and décor for your home and garden, they really pride themselves on being knowledgeable. More than a couple of the employees are certified horticulturists, which means they recognize different types of plants easily. Bring in a sample, and they will tell you what you are looking at. Bring in a problem and they will figure out a simple solution. Looking for African Blue Basil, Mardi Gras Abelia, a purple flowering, drought tolerant plant that only grows to 3 feet tall? Ask Sunnie, Megan or Michael and they will tell you where to go or will have a list of suggestions already on the tip of their tongue.
I will admit that the prices can be a little high for my taste, like these adorable «Alice in Wonderland”-looking containers that are $ 50 each! Unfortunately, the manufacturer sets the price for things like that so Strange’s can only carry the awesome merch and hope a certain customer doesn’t have a limit on their garden & home budget. :)

They have a terrific selection of plants, flowers, garden equipment, you name it. If it’s connected to gardening, you’ll find it here. The greenhouse at Short Pump is huge! And the prices are really reasonable. I live in Northern Virginia, but I will drive down to take advantage of the better prices. The staff is very knowledgeable, and the great whimsical artwork and advertising adds to the overall positive vibe of this place. I love it here!

They always have the plants I want (and I’m pretty particular) and if they don’t have it in stock, the knowledgeable staff is always up-​to-​date on when new stock is arriving, especially in the spring. Their prices are in line with the quality of plants you’re buying, which is to say: this is not a bargain-​basement nursery with half-​dead twigs. You’re going to get great, healthy plants for the money.
Today I bought a beautiful 5 gallon oak leaf hydrangea and an enormous lacecap climbing hydrangea. I’ll be back in a few more weeks when the rest of the lacecap hydrangeas are in! :)

this is my favorite greenhouse. their staff are what make them special. they are very customer service oriented. you can bring in a diseased tree leaf and they will recommend something that works. i know it sounds simple, but with so many greenhouses focusing solely on profit, this is a hard service to find sometimes. unlike many greenhouses, they carry organic and systemic pesticides, such as rotenone, which are often a necessity when gardening. their florist is somewhat expensive, but you will never be disappointed. they have a very extensive selection of trees and bushes behind the greenhouse and are a great source of information on landscaping. very good selection of drought resistant, hardy perennials. they are a little bit expensive, but they really want you to be happy and if your plant dies right after you plant it, I’m sure they would gladly replace it. i typically have great luck with their plants, though. if they don’t carry it, it probably doesn’t exist!

There are Strange’s all over town, and most people only think of them as florists, but they have a really nice garden center at this location near Short Pump.
I went to a free seminar here and bought some tulip, iris, and daffodil bulbs since I love spring flowers. My tulips and daffodils came up great, but I think the squirrels ate my iris bulbs.
You can find crêpe myrtle trees, boxwoods, garden furniture, and tons of herbs and garden plants here. They have weekly specials and online coupons that are good at all of the locations.
There’s a fun kids’ program called the Pea Pod Club to teach children how to grow things, and in the spirit of greenness, they even recycle old plastic garden pots here.
