The Annex Short Term Accommodations

I stayed in the studio for a little more than 2 months while interning at Chevron. Linda is a very attentive and accommodating landlady. She seems to have thought of everything. There is a kitchenette with a mini fridge/​freezer, a microwave and burners and the place is totally stocked with everything (pots, pans, spices, condiments etc). The bed is also huge.
The location is great, it is easy to take the 72M bus right at the top of the street to the BART station to go to Berkeley, Oakland, SF, etc and it runs ~every half hour all night.
Before this stay I had never been to Richmond, but I had heard the reputation. This studio is in quiet historic neighborhood with a couple markets, some shops, artist studios and restaurants nearby. A short walk up the street is a waterfront park complete with a mile long walking loop around a pond and great views of the bridges, Oakland, and SF. There are also a couple miles of hiking trails in the hills nearby. If you are a runner/​biker, there is access to SF bay trail practically at the end of the street and you can take follow it along the waterfront all the way to Albany, Berkeley, or longer if you wish. If you like to hike I would also recommend taking the short drive over the San Rafael bridge to explore Mt Tamalpais state park and Stinson beach.
If you are concerned about the Richmond BART, I would add that I have come and gone through Richmond BART many times this summer (during the day and in the evening) and I have not felt uncomfortable. I’ve actually felt much more unsafe in certain neighborhoods in the Boston area. I found this interesting because if you read reviews or listen to the rumors it sounds like Richmond BART is the end of the world. Granted there are usually some homeless people around, and people handing out bibles. For context I am a 25 y/​o male and I am pretty comfortable in urban environments.
To summarize: The Annex studio is perfect for a stay in the bay area, everything you need is either here or easily accessible. I highly recommend and would definitely stay again. The only potential downside is there is no laundry available in the studio, however there is a laundromat a short walk down the street. Note that they have limited hours during the week (something like 8am-​7pm) and are closed on Sunday so if you are working during the week you will have to resort to doing laundry on Saturdays as I did.

I rented the cottage for several months, and then the studio apartment for almost 2 months, during my relocation to the Bay Area, after living in New York for several years. Both the cottage and the studio have been ideal, as temporary living arrangements. Linda is a kind, conscientious, and respectful landlady. Both the cottage and the studio have wonderful amenities and thoughtful decorations. The studio apartment is in an historical building, and it maintains a certain old world charm. The light fixtures, the wood work, and the furnishings are elegant, but homey too. Point Richmond has a village quality, with small grocery stores, restaurants, and boutique shops. Gorgeous vistas of the San Francisco Bay are just a short walk up the street. The studio apartment requires street parking, but it is very easy to find a spot. Berkeley and San Rafael are about 20 minutes away; San Francisco is about a 30 – 40 minute drive. Overall, the highest recommendations go to the Annex Short Term Accommodations!

Who would have thought that a 550 square foot house would be soooo perfect! It was our home for 2 months and from the terrific landlord to the amply supplied kitchen to the well-​appointed EVERYTHING, we were most comfortable and lacked for nothing. (And, very importantly, the bed was a gem.) It rarely took us longer than 30 minutes to get to the Duboce Park area of San Francisco (longer in rush hour) and a 10 minute walk from the house was rewarded with views that stretched from the bridges Bay to Golden Gate. A great spot for lap swimming (and water aerobics) was at the Plunge, just 3 blocks away.

I stayed at the Annex for a month in their studio apartment. (It appears that their description above is for the one-​bedroom cottage, but they also have a studio available.) The room was clean and beautifully decorated, and well-​stocked with various food items. I liked that there is a kitchenette with two burners and a small fridge, adequate to prepare meals for one or two. Also, the hot water for the shower is instant-​on, which is a nice bonus. Linda was a great host.
Point Richmond is a nice quaint town and most of your daily needs are walkable– two small markets, pharmacy, post office and a few restaurants. For any heavy duty shopping you’d have to go to Richmond or down the freeway. The Asian supermarket 99 Ranch is a couple miles away, and it’s about a 5 minute drive to the Richmond BART.
A few things to be aware of if you are interested in the studio, a few minor inconveniences that bring this down to a 4-​star:
1) It does not have wifi, but it does have an ethernet connection and they are fine with your bringing your own router.
2) There is no dedicated parking but street parking is easy to find.
3) There’s no laundry on site (the washer-​dryer is exclusively for the cottage), and the laundromat down the street has pretty short hours and isn’t open on the weekend. I was never home during those hours and ended up doing my laundry in Berkeley instead.
