I had the bún tht heo nng ch giò and cà phê sa đá and they were both really good. There was a good amount of pork and egg rolls on the bún and the noodles were a really good texture. The fish sauce blend it came with was also really good. The coffee was good but it came in a pretty small glass.

Oh my, this place is a hidden gem. Great service, quick and awesome food. Rocket shrimp, spring rolls, miso soup, phở, and the best crispy chicken I’ve ever had. Definitely authentic Vietnamese food. So satisfying!

I wish I could give this place a higher rating but service is slow and the phở broth is sweet. Why is it sweet?! I’ve never had phở that tasted sweet. Their rice paper rolls weren’t impressive either. Definitely go with the crispy rolls.

A long while back, I came here at the recommendation of a friend. She loved it so I thought I MIGHT love it. Wrong. I hated it. Hadn’t been back there since. And then another friend more recently told me that he loved this place. I was like, um, no, we’re not going there. But we ended up going there. So I huffed and puffed(inside, of course) and looked over the menu. I was impressed that their menu was more extensive and they have all sorts of dishes. I felt that I could have forgotten about that in the time I hadn’t been there all of these years. I wanted to try the Phở here but I also wanted a vermicelli dish. So I got the bbq pork with vermicelli dish and waited for the horror that was sure to come. Which never came. I got my dish with my sauces and my friend got his Phở. He let me taste the broth– okay, have to admit, I didn’t spit it out– and then I took the deepest breath possible and dug into my bowl. The bbq pork was actually pretty good, not too heavy on the char and not too undercooked. The rice wasn’t soggy, which is something I have had a problem with in other Vietnamese places, and I found that their version of the fish sauce was quite refreshing. It was a little sweet but I figured that I needed that sweetness to offset my slightly salty bbq pork. I finished the whole bowl except some noodle on the bottom and my friend finished his Phở. The décor was the same as when I came in here years go but there were more people sitting to eat than I remembered. Good sign. This is actually a good second choice for me since it’s not so far from the city, but I definitely need to come back to try a whole bowl of Phở.

After experiencing the delicious Vietnamese cuisine Manhattan has to offer, I was looking for something that comes close here in Richmond. This is the place! I have been coming here since 2008, and ever since have had the craving for it every month or so. I am always greeted warmly, and the food is top notch. My favorites are the phở, vermicelli bowls, noodle soups, and shredded pork rice paper rolls. Absolutely outstanding in every way, shape, and form, and I am proud to give them my undying business and appetite!

I was so scared to try Vietnamese food but thanks to reviews of friends and Unilocal, It was delicious. I ordered the Vermicelli BBQ pork and it was a winner. I’m going back tonight since it’s been a couple months. SO yummy!!!

So much better than Mekong! The phở is on point and piping hot when it arrives to the table. I love their shrimp phở! Plenty of shrimp and noodles along with the basil and bean sprouts they serve on the side. The service is attentive and the restaurant is clean.

We enjoyed Vietnam 1 for lunch and loved it. The beef Phở and summer rolls were delicious. They only give you one roll in an order though and don’t accept Amex. My mom got the seafood delight and thought it was too sweet. I highly recommend this restaurant for the Phở.

After reading all the reviews my husband and I decided to go here for dinner. The food and the service were below average. I had ordered stir fry noodles and it was very bland. The noodles were also a little under cooked. My husband had ordered lemongrass stir fry and although it tasted better than my dish it certainly wasn’t spicy like it said on the menu. We won’t back.

Best in Rva phở sho! I always come here for my Viet-noms. P-2 or P-3 is solid order. This broth will fix all of your problems and make you happy.

Delicious, inexpensive, great for vegans. Their BBQ tofu vermicelli bowl has the fish sauce dressing that I crave when I think Vietnamese food and they’re totally into subbing for peanut sauce if you ask(if you’re vegan).

Really solid bun thit nuong– BBQ pork on vermicelli. Not fatty or gas aroma soaked. Well flavored phở. Fast service. Single crispy and fresh spring rolls only 1.75.

Shrimp phở is yummy and really hit the spot yesterday during the rain. So are crispy spring rolls, but Mekong still has the best crispy spring rolls. Simple, casual décor. Fast service.

I’m a long time fan of Vietnam 1. It used to be that they were almost never crowded, but these days it’s pretty busy most of the time. I can see why. The food is fresh, tasty, affordable and usually pretty quick. Parking is usually fine. If you are not sure what to get, you’ve got to try the Phở. It’s excellent– but not to go. It’s not the same. Eat it in the restaurant. The place is super casual, so whatever you are wearing is fine.

Vietnam 1 is a very special restaurant for me because this was where my first date was, ever! Not much has changed in the last 10 or so years that I have been coming here. Most of the employees are still the same and décor just simple. On my most recent visit I got the combination seafood noodle soup(hu tieu mi) that comes with both vermicelli noodles and egg noodles. The protein included: shrimp(only 2.), scallops(only one piece), sliced fish balls, and I think also chicken as well. The broth was very tasty! Not too salty, and didn’t taste artificial. Noodles were also delicious and soft. I wish there was a little more protein though and that they didn’t skimp out on that. Service was fast like usual and the food came out in less than 5 minutes for our table. Bathrooms are always pretty clean and I’ve never really had a bad experience here. As for the phở when I do get it, it’s average for RVA. It’s not the best, but it’ll satisfy my craving if i have one. When you’re done you pay up front at the register and tell them what you got. Parking lot is a little small and shares it with several other small businesses so parking can be a little crazy on the weekends when it gets busy.

Soup. They have other things that are really good but for me it’s usually P3, Phở with sliced eye of round and brisket. I have to say that currently these folk are making the best Phở on the RIC radar. It’s not fancy or huge, but the dining room is clean, well attended and large enough to accommodate a rush without lines out of the door. Yep, they are full up sometimes. :) I promise to try something different next time.

With so many Vietnamese phở cuisines in Richmond(2 others within one mile radius), why should you choose this one? Here’s the equation: Vermicelli + BBQ pork + large portions = no brainer. As you can tell, I absolutely love vermicelli* and I particularly enjoyed their flavorful BBQ pork. Plus, there is plenty of parking and the restaurant on a late Friday evening appeared less crowded than its fellow surrounding phở restaurants. Long story short, I’ll definitely be giving this another try should the desire for noodles hit me again. *A hint for those who think vermicelli is plain tasting: pour in the sauce that comes with your noodles – that’s where all the flavor is(yummm).

On my never ending quest to try all the phở in Richmond, my fiancée and I ended up eating at Vietnam 1 tonight. There were some highs and lows of the meal, but all in all it was pretty good. Note that my review is based mostly on the phở, so if Vietnam 1 has the best BBQ plates and other dishes, I apologize in advance for tarnishing the star rating. –Food: I ordered the Phở Tai Chin(beef phở with steak and well done brisket) and a Salty Plum drink. My fiancée got the Com Thit Nuong(BBQ pork on broken rice). –Salty Plum: I’ll start on a high note. For anyone who hasn’t had a salty plum drink before, picture it this way: You just take a drink of water, just to realize that it’s salt water from the ocean! But wait! Instead of that gross salty ocean aftertaste, you have a pleasant and slightly fruity plum taste in your mouth. What’s this? Small pieces of plum fruit at the bottom as well? Delicious! That’s basically how it is. Get it. It’s great. –Phở: Vietnam 1’s phở comes with all of the normal fixings that you find at other phở places with sriracha and hoisin sauce readily available. The broth was a bit darker but still tasted great and the steak had a nice flavor. The problem I have is that the brisket was super fatty, almost to the point of being«crunchy». I get that brisket is fatty, but the other four places I’ve had phở in RVA have had non-crunchy brisket. My other problem is that the noodles were all clumped together. They tasted fine, but they almost formed a single entity instead of individual noodles. –BBQ Pork Broken Rice: My fiancée said that this was very good, and it came with a lot of rice, more rice than the others she has tried. –Cost: The above 3 items came to about $ 18. For the amount of food we got, it seems like a pretty good price. –Atmosphere: The inside of Vietnam 1 is rather plain and spacious. While that might sometimes be a bad thing, it works. The tables are nicely spaced and there are plenty of them. –Service: The staff was nice, food came out quick, and our water was filled before we ran out. No complaints. –Overall: Don’t get me wrong, Vietnam 1 was still good. If I were to come here again and get phở I’d skip the brisket as the chewy and crunchy fat was really offputting. The clumpy noodles weren’t my favorite either, but at least they tasted good. All in all it wasn’t bad, but with all the other phở options in RVA, there are a handful of other places I’d go first.
