This is actually a review for the Willow Lawn Children’s theater. This is a great way to introduce children to the theater experience as it’s not an adult theater experience. Everything about it is geared to kids from start to finish. The décor is bold, bright, and a delight to the child’s eyes. There is a snack area with sugary things that appeal to kids. The tables are low and covered with paper. Crayons are provided to keep them occupied. The theater itself is small. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. The shows are things that many kids will already be familiar with so it doesn’t tax the small mind. We saw Treasure Island. There was a nice blend of music and story telling. The action was a bit over the top and slap stick– all in kid’s style. Afterward the actors were available to sign programs and meet the kids. I thought it might be more than short attention spans could handle, but it was an absolute delight from start to finish for a 5, 7, and 9 year old. I’d definitely go again and so would they. They completely enjoyed it.

Had a great experience at Virginia Rep’s production of «Fiddler on the Roof.» The November Theater is located on Broad St. Luckily, on the night after Christmas, parking was easy but I imagine it could be a challenge on other evenings. The theater lobby is nicely decorated but definitely fills quickly before the doors to the theater are opened. The theater itself is lovely and much larger than I thought it would be from the outside. We had excellent seats that brought us close to the action but I can’t imagine there are many«bad seats.» The scenery and lighting were very well done. The acting was good. Tevye was phenomenal. So much so, that it almost made the other actors pale in comparison. When in reality they certainly were quite good. The orchestra was recorded which is slightly disappointing but I can understand that small theaters can’t always afford to pay a pit orchestra for 20+ performances. I look forward to returning to future productions. Bravo!

Went to Virginia Rep’s November Theatre last night for The Producers, and it was WONDERFUL! Every element of the show was well done — the set design, the staging, the costumes, the lighting, the sound, the live orchestra, the directing, the choreography, the singing, the dancing, the acting. This is a first-rate production, and I’m thrilled that Richmond’s performing arts scene is blossoming! Bravo, bravo, bravo! If you like musicals with big scores, big voices and lots of glitz, GO see this show before it ends on January 13. You will NOT be disappointed. PG-13 for suggestive language and themes.
