Love, love love these guys. The burek here are heavenly, as is the yogurt that you can(and should) buy to eat it with. Hands down if you’re in the area and hungry, don’t walk by this unassuming little spot as you’ll be missing out on a wonderful and filling meal. The girl who works the counter is the jack of all trades and does it all in true Balkan style — with a smile on her face and much hospitality.

Burek is awesome! It competes with my dads! Good amount of cheese and moist. The best burek I ever bought. The owners are very nice people. I will be going back every chance I get. If you’ve never had it, you don’t know what you’re missing!

Hands down the best burek in the city. there are some other good ones, but Burek’s Pizza is tops. don’t forget to get a small yogurt to enjoy with it(mali jogurtom). they have it with spinach, with cheese, and with meat. If you call ahead they can make you a special pie with apples — it’s like apple pie, but balkan. This is a little place, which can fill up fast when they are busy. not much décor, it’s just all about the burek. also next door is nice little grocery store with specialty products from former Yugoslavia and the region.

This place was such an unexpected discovery. We were walking home and felt like having a slice of pizza for lunch. This was the 1st joint we saw. We asked for 2 slices of regular and the lady behind the counter looked at us «funny» She said — «we don’t sell regular pizza, we sell burek» Oh well, we were so hungry, so we decided to try this burek! It was amazing. So burek is not really pizza. It is more like French flaky dough with stuffing. We had meat and cheese(feta) slices. They also have burek with spinach. We are definitely coming back to try that one!!!

I absolutely love the cheese burek. Buy a pie, take it home and reheat it when you want to eat for 10 minutes at 350. It is absolutely delicious and satisfying. This is a great Serbian meal or snack and it is made perfectly at Burek’s!

Excellent home style burek. I almost said better than my mothers, but laid off the kajmak just in time. The cabbage and cheese is my favorite. Try Burek’s pizza before it becomes the next Cronut and Jean Georges starts serving burek stuffed with avocado and peas at ABC Cocina.

What a no frills place. Authentic Burek, hot, crispy, traditional. Accommodating counter help, great prices. Serious ethnic fast food gem. Only draw back is that it’s super hot inside(summer).

Burek’s Pizza is a neighborhood staple. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for almost 19 years and everyone raves about the Balkan pastry pies. My favorite is the cheese filling. I will occasionally get a craving as I pass by this place. Clean place and decent service. My sons love them too.

Generally, the burek here are very very good. My favorite is the cheese. I always just pick up, take home and reheat in the oven. Cheese and spinach are pretty consistent in quality(very high). Once or twice with the meat, however, the ground beef quota was pretty stingy and I found myself eating mainly pastry.

Wow! The food here is just incredibly delicious! We ordered two cheese burek & one meat burek. They both were just absolutely tasty! Big slice! Anyone with a big appetite will definitely be full & satisfied. $ 4 for each. The place is pretty small. Friendly service. Helpful too… We’ll definitely go back!

Ahhhhhhh. .. Burek Burek. .. Would you believe there’s a song in the Balkans about this wonderful little dish? Well, it’s true! I’m from the Balkans and grew up on these layers & layers of paper thin dough filled with either ground beef, onions & spices OR cheese OR a combo of cheese & spinach. Grandma is too old and frail and mom has arthritis so neither of them will spend the hours it takes to stretch that dough so I must find a vendor to help with my occasional cravings of home-town flavors and Burek’s Pizza is the answer. Each and every time I bring one of their beef pies home and take a bite. .. the thin crispy layers with ground beef & onion & the perfect amount of seasoning in the middle, combined with a cup of yogurt is DELISH! Yes, I want to sing the Burek song with each bite! As for décor. .. it’s nonexistent. It’s a small place with not much seating, a fridge with water, soda and yogurt, and a counter to order.(Speaking of ordering, if you don’t speak Serbo-Croatian, then use your most primitive speaking skills. .. in other words, use hand gestures to indicate the number of slices or pies you want and limit your flavor requests to 1 word. .. beef or cheese. .. and use either«slice» or «pie». .. trust me, your life will be much easier).

Spinach pie is one of my all-time favorite foods in the entire world. I was told that this somewhat resembled a spinach pie, and from what people told me of the burke, I was incredibly excited to try it. When I got there, the owner was on the phone and I was the only customer. Still excited, I ordered a piece. She made two, misunderstanding that I only wanted one. The communication barrier seemed a bit too difficult, and figuring that it would still be delicious and satisfy my craving, I agreed to pay for the two slices. There were tons of little flies flying around the place, and no air conditioning to speak of. She gave me my two slices in a paper bag to go, and I began to eat on the way to my friend’s house a few blocks away. Just as I lifted the flaky slice to my mouth to try a slice, I saw one of the tiny flies from the pizzeria burrowing its way into my food. It literally burrowed its way underneath the flaky pastry layer and did not resurface. Then I saw another one emerge from the other end. Absolutely disgusted beyond belief, I threw both slices into the nearest wastebasket I could find. I’m sure that under normal circumstances, this might be a good slice or a delicious treat. Unfortunately, I rather lost my appetite for dinner.

First, education requirement for all Americans: Burek [BOOR-ehk]- thin packets of cheese-filled pastry popular in Southeastern Europe and Turkey. Incredibly delicious. Won’t make you fat. Now the review: With food this tasty who needs décor? Just give me a plate and seating and I will enjoy good tasting food. Goodness! I only wish that more upscale places had food this good. Only one comes to mind, and it’s far more expensive than this place! Order a pie for pick-up or buy a single slice of burek with yogurt and enjoy. A hungry man doesn’t discriminate; a hungry man eats. Hungry men, come here!(women too, of course *rolls eyes*)

No, this isn’t a pizza joint owned by someone named Burek(despite the apostrophe). This is a seller of burek(Balkan-style pastry pies with various fillings). In fact, there’s no pizza in here whatsoever that I’ve ever seen. We arrived at the end of the day today, and all they had left was two slices of the cheese burek. Thick, moist, you can taste the oily undertones of the flaky dough and cheese. A filling meal. Décor and atmosphere are pretty nonexistant, but are superfluous with food this good.

1. the guy behind the counter(and bussing everything in and out to tables and his car) is top-model level GORGEOUS. enuf said. 2. their burek is pretty darn good(and, yes, i’m one of those who’ve been there — a joint in Mostar was de riguer and by far the best with me and the boys back then). i must add, however, unless it’s directly fresh out of the oven i almost always prefer to take my burek home and warm/crisp it up on my own. 3. drawback: while the place looks like your average non-descript local pizza joint, the location is quite charming and would have a degree of interest for urban sociologists — it’s in the middle of nowhere! 4. try out this greeting upon entering, «dohbar-DHAN!»(good day!), and lemme know how it goes.

The guy behind the counter barely speaks English so if you speak Yugoslavian(Sebo-Croatian, Bosnia etc) you got a bit of a heads up although all you have to do is point to what you want. Ridgewood has a sizable Balkan population(try Bosna Express which is a few blocks away for some Balkan burgers) esp from Montenegro, Albania, Bosnians and Serbs and Burek is their speciality. It’s like spinach pie but thicker. You can order Bureks by the pie or the slice. A slice is 3 bucks, they have meat, cheese and spinach. Sometimes they have apple. One slice is more than enough for a meal. Enjoy!
