I probably should have read the reviews here before ordering delivery from this place. I have no idea how it’s still open. I ordered for delivery on a Sunday night and after an hour and 10 minutes, I called to check on the order. They tell me it’s on its way(that’s pretty much the standard answer anywhere so that’s fine). 15 minutes later, I call . They tell me the restaurant is now saying it will be delivered in another 15 minutes. Anyway, the food arrives almost 2 hours after placing the order and the scallion pancakes are crunchy and my lo mein smells and tastes like roll-up cigarettes. I genuinely took one bite and envisioned a sweaty old Chinese man stirring the noodles with one hand, holding the pan with the other, and letting a cigarette hang free from his mouth. This may or may not have been the case – the delivery guy could have just been hotboxing his car while driving around for an hour with my food, who knows? That one bite made me sick(not the first reviewer here to say this, I see). And it should be noted that I can drink month-old milk without being sick.

It smells amazing and the food may even taste good but I’ve received much more than just food from this place. I don’t know how many times I’ve had a bug or hair in my orders. I just can’t continue to go there.

Not sure why so many people have problems with this place. Every time I order food for takeout — steamed rice, fried rice, sesame chicken, wonton soup — the food comes out fine.

Made me sick. Small portions. Nasty syrupy sauce in the General Tsos chicken. Broccoli not at all fresh. Even terrible egg rolls. egg rolls!

The delivery guy called me annoyed from in front of a completely different apt that was not even on my block(which is, whatever, he’s not the reason I dislike this place but I didn’t appreciate the attitude This food is pretty bad. I mean, Americanized Chinese food cravings are never for REALCHINESE food, we’re usually craving greasy, $#!tty fare and we love it. But this is just not even that. The eggroll was fine — not fantastic, just a run of the mill Chinese joint eggroll. So if you’re in Bushwick and really just craving eggrolls then go ahead. The chicken and broccoli? There was like, almost no sauce at all, and the stuff sitting at the bottom of the styrofoam container was almost all oil with some brown stuff floating in it. The Szechuan beef was served with huge beef chunks — if they don’t take the time to shred or at least cut the pieces down as most cheap restaurants will usually do, you know that’s not a good sign. Also the beef was, well, I was only able to try a few pieces and then was two grossed out to eat any more — focused in on the rice, veggies, and«sauce» instead. Maybe they’re trying their own style flavor-wise, but for me it is a big F-. My boyfriend, whose mother is Chinese, LOVES Chinese food both in the authentic vein and in the crappy hole in the wall vein. He won’t even order food from here if he’s drunk or high and everywhere else is closed. When I told him how disappointed we were he rolled his eyes and gave me the old«I told you so».

personally i grew up eating from here and i love the owners too. butt…i get lots of complaints from my friends and girlfriend on how average this food can be despite how much i love the chicken and broccoli. the chicken wings are amazing too and they even won an award for it via grub hub. the iced teas are very sweet and tasty. if you live in ridgewood you might want to consider trying mr chen instead unless you read the other reviews and want to take a chance on it.

As neighborhood restaurants go for this area, it’s consistent and the cook ususally does a good job. It’s not like dining in Flushing or Chinatown, just a family run place. Never got sick, no foreign objects in the food and it’s a tasty hot meal. Its better than KingWah who served chicken neck bones in the egg rolls and the staff fail to wear hats or hair coverings and you can see a zillion code violations while they cook.

I’m not an overly critical diner, but this place is terrible. My husband and I got delivery from them last week and I had no idea how bad fast food Chinese could possibly be. The fried rice is very strange, I’m not even sure how to explain it. It was bright, bright yellow and there were no vegetables in it, just little random pieces of minced pork smaller than a peppercorn. They also got one of our orders wrong; we ordered chicken chow mein and we got garlic chicken. That’s fine, I still like garlic chicken, so I didn’t bother calling them back and we tried out the garlic chicken. It was more like cream of chicken slop with some garlic and wilted, soggy bok choy. We also ordered General Tso’s chicken and orange chicken, although we couldn’t tell the difference between the two as the orange chicken didn’t taste of orange at all(which was funny because half of the dish was just orange peels instead of chicken). I would never order from this place ever again.

After trying all of the Chinese takeout places within walking distance, I went into Jade Seneca with low(really low) expectations. It’s actually pretty good! The steamed dumplings are my weakness, and I’ve been happy with everything I’ve ordered. But it’s easy to stand out in this neighborhood, every other place seems to serve fried cardboard. The downside– delivery takes at least a half hour each time.

terrible. i ordered steamed veggies and general tso’s chicken, my guilty pleasure favorite. the veggies were not so fresh. the«chicken» was so terrible i had to laugh– i’m not even sure that there WAS chicken deep inside the fried breading. no evidence of meat whatsoever, just batter fried to oblivion and smothered with syrupy sauce. also, the interior is really depressing-looking, even by chinese take-out standards. like flickering florescent lighting a la police precinct. there are MUCH better«chinese stores» around ridgewood– try king wah on fresh pond road or that place on forest, just off the M train. nicer people, too.

My roommates and I have been trying all of the local Chinese places, one by one. This one is actually pretty decent. It’s cheap, the egg rolls taste the way they should taste, and I haven’t gotten food poisoning thus far. The only drawback is that their shrimp toast is the size of my fist.

Yeah, this place is perfect. If you happen to be a huge fan of food poisoning. Personally, I’d rather gnaw on a homeless person’s socks. The effect will be about the same.
