Ms. Curt’s Massages & Day Spa

I took my sister’s to Ms. Curt’s for a spa day and it was amazing! During our trip we had a fully catered buffet and some of the best massage’s we’ve ever received. The owner, Ilsa, took personal care of us, then sat with us while we enjoyed lunch and shared some laughs. We’ve now made plans to make it an annual sister’s day out and have invited a few of our friends. I love the atmosphere at Ms. Curt’s it’s so warm and inviting!

I seemed to have had a completely different experience than some of the others who’ve reviewed Ms. Curt’s. I actually went three times after purchasing a three-​massage Groupon. None of my appointments were hard to schedule. None of my experiences were anything but pleasant. They were good massages, and the customer service I received was friendly and thoughtful. Especially for the price I paid for the Groupon, I have no complaints.

Used a Groupon for an «Effeurage Massage» that was one of the options on the Groupon. When I went in there she decided that I was very tight and gave me one of the most painful massages I have ever had. I had a sports massage once that was less painful that this massage.

One word: horribleness. I wish I could give 0 stars. Yes, I tried ignoring other bad reviews, but that was clearly foolish. Massage and customer service is terrible. I would never call this place an «oasis.» It overlooks one of the two busiest streets in Ridgewood so expect to hear traffic during your massage (even with the white noise maker on. It just sounds like layered noise). The massage was essentially putting lotion on my body. That’s it. At the end of the massage, the owner asked how I liked it, I was honest and said I did not enjoy the noise nor the light (they don’t put something over the eyes… who doesn’t do that?) so I couldn’t relax. She assured me that the noise maker should have been turned up (oh please, no) and I should have had something over my eyes. She offered me a complimentary Swedish massage and gave me a gift card thing and said I need to explain on the phone that it’s for a complimentary massage since I had a bad experience. Yea, it would have been nice if that was the case. I called to schedule and the receptionist said that the card is only to discount another massage priced at $ 130. I am glad I waited to do a review because that is absurd. I barely wanted to come back to even get the massage again let alone chance paying for another bad experience. I truly hope this place doesn’t last in Ridgewood and I don’t see how it would with the staff and location.

Am so disappointed… have tried for months (since January) to get in for a couple’s massage using my Groupon for an late afternoon or evening appt… tried to book online and made numerous calls during business hours. Left messages for the owner to call me and she never returned my call. Such bad customer service. You should really return calls Kudos to those that were able to get in. I will take my business elsewhere.

0 starts given if that was an option! I received a living social couples massage this February which was good for 3 months. After finally landing a full time nursing job and giving up my 3 part time and per diem positions, I finally had time to make an appointment. I called (and emailed) for TWO WEEKS, before finally hearing back from them. I spoke to a woman who was rude, condescending, and unprofessional over the phone. Originally she had plenty of appointments available. When she found out it was a living social deal, she stated that she only had individual massages before the June 1^st deadline. I didn’t understand this, seeing that if you have 2 masseuses available for the same time, why they could not do a couples massage. She said that’s not how it works. I then said that I have been calling for 2 weeks and just finally heard back, and I asked if they could extend the living social deadline. She said no and declared that I had 3 months to make an appointment. I explained that while working three jobs, it was very difficult to schedule an appointment between mine and my boyfriend’s schedule. With that being said, i called living social who refunded the money which I will use to purchase another couples massage at a company who is pro-​customer and gracious for their clientele’s business. As for any of the 4 or 5 star reviews… I HIGHLY doubt that those were written by actual customers, but rather Curt herself. The comparisons in the detail between the positive and negative reviews says it all. I’ll take my business elsewhere

I bought a couples massage from Groupon. The ambiance of the place is great. it was very nice and clean. I was massaged by Christine, who was very pleasant from the beginning. My boyfriend was massaged by Ms. Curt herself and because he had never had a massage before, he was super tight. Ms. Curt upgraded him to a deep tissue at no cost. That is someone who cares about what they are doing. We even stayed after a bit just chit chatting. She had no attitude problem like some other reviewers mentioned. I would definitely go back there again. My only issue like I told Ms. Curt was that before I came in, I had a hard time getting a hold of someone on the phone, but she assured me that has been taken care of as she has added to her staff. Thanks again guys!

Not at all professional. Had to wait 20 mins outside in 20 degree weather because they would not pick up the phone and let me in despite having a appointment. She was not very apologetic saying it happens ???
Massage very average. I guess you get what you pay for but certainly not going again.

My boyfriend surprised me with a Groupon for a couples Swedish massage here on Valentine’s Day! We just came in to redeem our much needed massages yesterday, and we left feeling extremely relaxed.
He bought the Groupon without checking any reviews of the place, so when we read such awful reviews together about the owner the day before our scheduled appointments, we were really skeptical about coming in. Luckily, we never interacted with the owner aside from a passing «hello».
When we walked in for our 10:30 am appointment, the receptionist looked a little confused because apparently my boyfriend didn’t mention that the appointment was for a couples massage when he called haha. But she was extremely nice about it and said that she could accommodate us for the couples massage if we waited an extra half hour, which was completely fine. There are a ton of places to shop and eat nearby, so we just walked across the street and window shopped for 20 minutes or so.
The ambiance is very serene, everything smells amazing, and all the décor looks pretty and new.
My boyfriend was massaged my Christine (I hope I spelled her name right), and I never got my masseuse’s name (she was also the accommodating receptionist) but mine had a few tattoos on her arms.
Both my boyfriend and I loved our massages! We would highly recommend our masseuses and come back once we save up some money.

HOLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE!!!
The customer service was so terrible that I didn’t even make it to my massage…
I purchased a living social deal which was said to expire in one month. I called to try and schedule a massage but unfortunately due to my work schedule, I was unable to go unless it was a weekend. There were no appointments available until June however, she told me that if I had called one week before that I wouldn’t have had a problem, that if I hadn’t waited for months (just one month) to make an appointment that there would not be a problem and essentially that it was my fault that I would lose my deal. She continued to suggest how this was my problem and that she was being accommodating by telling me to «take off work» in order to get the massage. When I asked if i could apply the paid amount to another one of her services she said no. So pretty much, the only way that I could use this coupon is if I took off from work. The woman who I spoke with was RUDE, AGGRESSIVE, and UNPROFESSIONAL. She would NOT let me speak, she kept cutting me off and continually spoke over me. She obviously has never heard of the phrase «the customer is always right.» Her negative and rude tone actually aggravated me so much that I decided to sign up to Unilocal just to write a review. I was not even being ridiculous in my request to merely have my paid value acknowledged. Maybe the spa is great, clean, and organized but I would definitely not feel comfortable going to a place where someone would speak to a customer in the manner in which she did. I will certainly not be going here.

I was very disappointed with the service here. Being a frequent massage go-​er, I had high expectations going into this massage but left very disappointed. The massage was not hard enough. Ms. Curt had a bad attitude from the start which made it really uncomfortable for me to say anything. I won’t be back again.

I found out about Ms. Curt’s because I bought a couples massage through Groupon. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The building itself it ok, but once you get inside it’s very serene. I was very pleased with my massage. A lot of my kinks were worked out. I would definitely go back.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would.
The only PRO I could think of is the two masseuse who apologized to us after what we went through.
Let me start off by saying this is very unprofessional, shady and one of the worst massages and customer experience I’ve ever had.
I bought a couples massage deal through Groupon. I booked it today for 12pm a few weeks ago. Around 10am this morning, my boyfriend told me he wouldn’t be able to make it and to see if i could reschedule it. So I called. and the lady I spoke to (the owner, I guess her name is Ms. Curt?) said there would be a $ 30 rescheduling fee. So I told her to just forget about it and it will just be me coming (even though I paid for a couples massage). And she told me if it was okay with me then I would be able to come in by myself. My boyfriend calls me about 20 minutes later saying he could make it so I immediately called back about 30 minutes later (but spoke with a gentlemen) saying that I had called earlier before and to disregard my previous request because my boyfriend will be able to make it and he said it wouldn’t be a problem.
My boyfriend had also called to double check that the massage was a couple’s massage for TWO people and the same gentlemen confirmed.
However, to our surprise that was not the case. We both got there at 12pm. My first impression of this place was great. Filled out papers and just loved the décor and atmosphere… UNTIL the owner, Ms. Curt asked me to come up. She tells me that they did not have room for us for a couple’s massage and that we would’t be able to go in. I looked at her confused and asked why? I explained to her that I called 5 minutes after (obviously, not 5 minutes but within the hour) confirming our appointment for two people. Then she goes «okay you didn’t call 5 minutes after because I was still here. Do you want me to read the call log? I have it right here» in a very disrespectful tone. I told her that I called back within that hour but spoke with a male gentlemen and gestured my hand towards him (standing next to her) My boyfriend was sitting on the couch and got up because of this ridiculous excuses she was giving us. He firmly says «is there a problem? I called and this gentleman next to you confirmed we had a couple’s massage for two people which is why we came.»
Then she starts talking down on the poor gentlemen when he didn’t even do anything wrong! She said comments like «We’re going to speak later» while throwing a mini tantrum. Then, starts scolding him by saying «that’s why I tell you to not pick up the phone» while he’s just standing there. It was an uncomfortable situation to see. Please respect your employees.
Subsequently, she decides to pull something out of her butt and says that another client called right after me and took our spot (which surprisingly she never showed up LOLLL) I looked at her confused and said «How is that possible? I remember speaking with you on the phone and I never said our appointment was cancelled» She starts blaming the poor gentlemen how he shouldn’t have picked up the phone and that there’s nothing she could do.
My boyfriend comes in and goes «how is that our problem? that’s not on us. we called and we were confirmed twice which is why we’re here»
Honestly, at this point we were both so uncomfortable and disgusted by the confrontation that we didn’t even want to go in. The female masseuse tried calming Ms. Curt down but Ms. Curt kept on going with her tantrum. After her little tantrum, she told the two masseuse to just bring us in with a very disrespectful manner. The second they let us into the massage room, they shut the door and immediately apologized for her behavior and tried to calm us down. Genuinely concerned, I asked if she was the manager and the female masseuse said yes, she’s the owner of this place and I was speechless…
At the start of 90 minute massage, my boyfriend told me he couldn’t relax because he couldn’t stop thinking about what just happened. How are we suppose to be relax and enjoy the massage with a greeting like that?
To be honest, the massage itself wasn’t quite spectacular. It felt as though it was not up to standard. We both wanted it over with. After we finished, we felt completely out of place and more tense as ever. This is not a feeling anyone should get after a massage.
As we were leaving (wanted to get out of here immediately), Ms. Curt forcefully made us check out. Out of all the massages, I’ve been to. I’ve never heard of a check out process. It took about 10 – 15 minutes of our time which was unnecessary. During that process, she sort of apologized for her behavior earlier before but starts blaming the young gentleman for it. She starts blabbing and complaining about everything and would not stop talking. WE JUST WANTED TO LEAVE.
Ms. Curt, we will not be back. This is not how you a run a business. Please speak to your customers and employees with respect. I feel bad for the two masseuse who work for you

Ms. Curt’s is a great day spa; both adorably decorated and clean. Ms. Curt herself is incredibly welcoming and eager to please her customers. She wants everyone to leave feeling relaxed and having thoroughly enjoyed their experience. I would definitely recommend her services!

I would highly recommend this place! The staff was very welcoming and very professional. My boyfriend and I left relaxed and feeling great! They did a great massage, really focusing on where we were most tense. Very pleased with this place and I will be back!

I would highly recommend Ms. Curt’s to anyone in the Ridgewood area. The ambience was very serene and brand new! The modern decour added a nice touch to the whole experience. Greeted with a friendly smile and a welcoming heart by the owner, I felt very comfortable and ready to relax. The couples massage service is sure to please with full 90 minutes of aromatherapy swedish massage. Very professional staff, clean and pristine. A true gem for a relaxing time.
