L & L Hawaiian Barbecue

Horrible! Horrible food! Horrible service! Employees looked bored, absolutely no warmth. Wife and I went for a quick bite after shopping. Place was DIRTY, floors sticky as were walls, cupboard doors and counters. Person taking order had on dirty cargo type bermudas, girl who brought out our food had long stringy and greasy hair hanging down her front. All personnel were wearing various types of clothing, all looked like they hadn’t bathed in a week. Wife ordered chicken and rice with macaroni salad. Rice lumpy, chicken overcooked and greasy. She wound up tossing food into trash. I had cheese burger with fries. Edible and that’s the kindest thing I can say. Had sweetened tea, tasted like canister holding tea hasn’t been cleaned in ages. No rating from City or County posted. Definite F-​. You’ve been warned.

Delicious, fast, and so much for so little! Can’t wait to bring my friends and family here to enjoy.

So the last two times we’ve came here, they’ve messed up our orders. And she figured it out it was wrong doesn’t come and apologize or anything. My husband won’t complain but we won’t be coming back. Good thing we can eat pork when we ordered

Stopped by for quick BBQ bowl’s to go, pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food for such a small establishment. Friendly service and quick food prep. Large helpings of food, no charge for extra sauce. Could use a little extra cleaning, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt that it was a busy weekend.

I just walked out of this place I waited while other people came and went for my dine in meal after 30 min another person walked in ordered sat down 5 min later they get there food mind you I’m still waiting for mine. I was sitting right in front of the kitchen and not once did the cashier asked if I was still waiting or anything I had her get her attention and ask what was taking so long I had to give her my receipt so she can see what I ordered then it came right out when she placed my place down she made a mess with the sauces I had on the table and didn’t even notice by then I’m on fire so I attempt to eat my meal but angry well lost my appetite asked to speak to the manager well I can’t much about him he was the owner he tried to say he had orders and maybe my meal was overlooked and said sorry I told him that my first time and unfortunately I would not be back not once did he try to make things right and he’s lucky I didn’t just ask for my money back and left his food there. The food I did taste was ok not the best anyways and I’m sure he doesn’t care too lose a customer the man is filthy rich. I had time to read all the articles on the wall while I waited so will never go back horrible service and mediocre food. If I could give a no start I would.

Takes a super long time for your food, but at least you know it’s fresh right? I love the chicken katsu. Its big enough for two. The place is dirty looking, always trashed when im there.

The staff here seems unhappy. One cashier in particular, Angel, insisted in chewing his toothpick while taking orders. It’s safe to assume he owns the motorcycle blocking the entrance way.

Yum!!! All of their food is good, fast & affordable! The staff is alway very nice too. We will be returning!

They’re busy this afternoon. Tried to call ahead to place my order but the line was busy. Smells good! It took about 20 minutes to get my short ribs plate once I ordered at the counter. The gentleman at the counter apologized for the wait, but I was fine with that. Good food not fast food is what I wanted.
The wait was worth it! Large portion of short ribs with 2 scoops of rice and macaroni salad. Don’t forget to get some of their gingerey teriyaki sauce! Ribs were nicely marinated and cut thicker than some other Hawaiian bbq places I’ve tried. They were a little chewy but in a good way. I had enough food left over for another meal.

Hawaiian BBQ at it’s finest. Locally, anyway. Service is fast and friendly, seems family owned and crew is always alert.
My favorite thing to get here is of course the chicken katsu. Chicken is perfectly cooked, the rice is delicious delicious and the macaroni on the side gives it that last little tasty boost. I love washing it down with some Thai iced tea. In fact, they probably serve some of the best milk tea in the county. Pricing is average, portions are good!

Large portions. A good fix for those who miss the plate lunches of Hawaii, like myself. I wish they would bring back the garlic mahi-​mahi. Not close to home, but definitely worth the trip.

My husband and I wanted to try something new for dinner and decided to go here. The gentleman at the counter was very personable and helpful recommending dishes. The price for dinner for 2 being close to 30.00 was steep especially for having to-​go containers and plastic forks for dine in. The food was good but the floors were very dirty in the restaurant and the bathrooms were as well. It made me a little nervous and left me wondering the cleanliness of the kitchen? Probably not going back to this establishment.

Always a great experience every time we order for takeout. Call 10 minutes before you head in and it’s a guarantee the food will be ready! Place is always clean and the staff makes you feel like family. Great franchise and a must to go if your in the area!

Hawaiian sized Portions! Delicious and quick food. The BBQ chicken was done just right, no extra sauces needed. The Skin was crispy, and the meat was juicy and tender. Great spot for lunch.

Just ate here today. Have been to one other. This place was a mess. Dirty all over the place. Food did t match the other one went to at all. Will not go back to this one.

Only reason I’m not giving 5 starts is that every time we come here the staff acts like we are bothering them. I love the food and love that I can get brown rice. The dining room needs to be updated its old and fading looking not to mention the signage is horrific. Instead of taking the old signs down they put duct tape over items they
no longer offer. Honestly the only reason we keep coming back is the food. Highly recommend as take out not so much for sit in

Chicken katsu is on point. The steamed sricky rice was just that, steamed sticky rice. No big serprises there just good old rice. the macaroni salad was excellent. Surprised me how it wasnt extremely mayonnaise tasting. Which is a plus. Very good meal just a little steep in price. Service was alright but they were really interested in there phones and the internet.
I give Price and service a 5 out of 10
Food experience was easily 7 out of 10

Living on Kauai for many years, L&L is the only place locally that can satisfy my craving for Hawaiian food. In Modesto, I believe L&L is the only place offering Hawaiian food.
Menu items vary from musibi, lau lau, saimin, bento boxes, short ribs, bbq chicken and kalua pork (mmm super juicy) each meal is served with mac salad and a side of rice which adds to the authenticity though I wish they had poi and lomi lomi my meal would be complete!
The store is clean and the customer service is decent.
L&L has pretty quick service I am usually in and out with my food within 10 min. I will be back anytime I am craving a quick Hawaiian dish :)

In love with this particular L&L! I’ve been to one other and so has my Bf and we both agree, this one is best! Who would have thought that Riverbank would beat out all others?
The Masubi’s are the best little snack food type item, but they can fill little tummies fast. The fried shrimp contains very fresh shrimp, very good shrimp and fish this side of the Bay Area.
The personnel are accommodating and they even have free wifi. Last time we were here the loco moco was on the menu. The eggs were served just as asked, and yes they ask you how do you like your eggs. BBQ chicken is savory and delicious. The macaroni salad is really good too, with a dash of tuna in it.
If there is a question on cleanliness you can see clear to the cook area from where you order. If you are in a hurry you have the option to order ahead of time. Just bear in mind that this is not fast food, so you’re going to wait a little while before your food comes out. In other words they cook to order.
I have yet to try the boba drinks. If they are at the same quality as the rest of their food, then I won’t be disappointed.
Very good food! Yum! I would highly recommend if you are craving something tasty and different.

4 stars because I’ve been a fan of L&L forever and whenever I come in I am always greeted with a friendly Aloha and smile.
I have said in my quick tips that calling in your order is ALWAYS and faster and it’s true. Walking in to place an order, always seems to lag and that can get annoying real quick, especially when I LOVE the food here.
Spam musubi: YES, pork Katsu: YES and both the short ribs and chicken: YES!
L&L can be a bit pricey but to feed a family of four with some yummy Hawaiian style food, why not? I like to take the quick drive down the street, having called in my order and bring it home to eat. Rarely do we eat their unless I’m shopping at Target or Kohls.
Plenty of room for groups but generally I see more folks grabbing take out.
