Ivy Lounge Unisex Salon and Spa

I arrived to see Lovie, a very breathtaking experience. I really like that when I arrived for my appointment she was ready. She has extreme pride in her work. I felt very comfortable and relaxed. The salon was very clean.
The entire process and outcome deserve 100 stars… if you need a stylist that cares about how you look and feel about your hair ask for

I REALLY wanted to like Ivy Lounge because, it’s a local business; the design on the inside and outside is gorgeous; it’s right near me and I’ve been dying for a great salon/​spa near me.
The first time I went, I used a Groupon. I should have picked up on the red flag that the professionalism/​quality wouldn’t be great when I noticed that, on the Groupon deal, the Ivy Lounge owner didn’t actually write anything about their business or the deal on the Groupon description — it was just a generic «Support your local business» write up from Groupon itself. So the owner didn’t care enough to even write anything about their business to market their business — Groupon did it for them. I had to email Groupon directly to ask what the Groupon was actually for at the salon — it was a good deal, so I got it. Well, I used the Groupon and the woman stylist who did my highlights was nice and friendly. Unfortunately she didn’t do a great job… the trim was horrible and not what I asked for (she had a lot of trouble cutting layers and just stopped at one point); also, with the highlights, she started the dye an inch off of my scalp which essentially made it look like my roots were growing out already; and she had a lot of trouble getting the color to a golden color like I asked — it kept being platinum blonde — so she spent more and more time and more chemicals to get it right, which it never got. As a result of her difficulties, she left me with my head back in the porcelain sink for a REALLY long time and I was in a lot of discomfort and was experiencing some numbness — I had to ask for a towel to go behind my neck (which apparently never even dawned on her that someone left on that porcelain sink for 30+ minutes might get uncomfortable). Not a great experience. Also, it ended up costing a lot more than the Groupon deal and it was really unclear what all the extra costs were (I would hope she wasn’t charging me for her own challenges with getting the color right). The inside décor is gorgeous, but the vibe is weird — stylists and staff just hanging out, the sinks were filthy, the floor was filthy, no one was cleaning or maintaining anything while they were hanging out, people going in and out of the salon but not having any work done. Very odd.
Second time there, I didn’t have a Groupon, I avoided getting the previous woman and got a new woman stylist. She did a better job with the trim/​layers, and a slightly better job with the highlights. She still started an inch off my scalp, even after I told her at the beginning to please go all the way down to the scalp. But her color job was closer to what I wanted (golden highlights) though they were uneven (some were golden and some were platinum)… luckily I kind of liked it, but I doubt everyone would. This cost was less than the first time, even without the Groupon amount included, so I still wonder what they charged me for the first time.
Third time, I bought another Groupon (same generic Groupon language — this business apparently really didn’t care to provide their own). However, this time I officially had to give up on the Ivy Lounge for good… because I literally could not get an appointment. It’s not because they were full or anything. It’s because I couldn’t get ahold of anyone there to schedule an appointment. I called them 9 times on a Tuesday, when their website said they were open. The phone rang and rang. I left messages. No one called me back. I called them the next day. The phone rang and rang. I finally got ahold of someone, only to be told that they are now closed on Tuesday (not updated on the website). I asked to schedule an appointment because my Groupon was going to expire the next week. The very blasé man said that no one was there that day to schedule appointments. Huh? I asked him to clarify that they weren’t taking any appointments at all — that no one there could look at the calendar or computer to see if there is availability any other day? He said «No.» Wow. So, hypothetically, NO ONE got an appointment scheduled that day, even after several days of them being closed. He told me to call back at 11am the following day for someone else to help me. So, last chance, the next day, at 11:05am, I called them. Guess what? The phone rang. And rang. And I left another voicemail message. It has now been 2 weeks and I have yet to get a single call back. So, I promptly contacted Groupon and cancelled my Groupon deal with them.
I’m very disappointed. I really wanted to like this place. But it doesn’t really seem run like a business — the professionalism and customer service is pretty low. It seems more like a place where a group of stylists get together and sort of cut and style hair sometimes when they feel like it. And apparently no one ever checks their messages, or if they do, they don’t care enough to contact customers back who are TRYING to support their business.
So, don’t bother. The results aren’t even remotely worth the headache!

Ivy lounge is awful. Overpriced, unprofessional, and ruined my hair on my wedding day.
I went to sample my hair style for my wedding which turned out great, it looked just like the picture I showed my stylist. So I rescheduled for my wedding day.
On my wedding day my stylist, Zoe, was 45 minutes late and did not apologize and even lied saying that she had no missed calls from me. Half way through my hairstyle another appointment showed up and Zoe started to rush on my hair.
Finally when it was done it looked awful. It was so caked with hair spray and the braid was really messy. The curls were already falling out. I was so upset and asked her to fix it but there was so much hair spray in it that anything she did made it worse. I finally left without any options and running late for the rest of my pre-​wedding day. I ended up completely redoing my hair at my wedding location.

Got my nails done here the other day – their nail tech is wonderful. Very meticulous! I’ve been looking for a good nail salon where I didn’t feel like I was being rushed out the door, and here it is. Bonus for college students: 20% off the list price if you show your I.D. Very happy and will absolutely go there again.

I was incredibly excited to try this salon: it is within walking distance of my house and it looks beautiful inside and out. About a month or so prior to my appointment, I had a consultation with the stylist, Zoe, to have a hairstyle done that the salon has on the menu. She stated she could do it.
When I arrived at the appointment, I again specified the style I wanted. She had suggestions of other things that we discussed and started to do another style on my hair and I let her know that I wanted what I had specifically asked for during the consultation and that I might try her suggestion in the future. I told her I wanted my hair to have a spiral look with definition.
She begins to style my hair and I noted to her that the technique she was using was what is traditionally used for bantu knots. She assured me that it would be what I wanted. To make a long story short, after an hour of styling, over 1.5 hours of being under the dryer, my hair was a frizzy mess and NOT the spiral definition I requested. I showed the stylist what the style (which mind is on the salon’s menu) usually looks like and she appeared surprised/​taken aback.. . as if she had never seen this before. I was incredibly disappointed and let her know that. She handled the situation professionally and offered to fix it. I did not have time to be there for another 2 hours, so we settled on blowing my hair straight. She blew my hair out when it was already dry and then flat ironed it. It looked average and not much better than the blowouts I do at home. By the time I walked the five blocks to my house, my hair had reverted and was frizzy. I’ve had my hair blown out before then subsequently worked out in the heat and not had such a poor result.
Though I appreciated her offer to give me the style i wanted the next time the likelihood of me returning to this salon is close to nil. This was an epic disappointment.

A great find in hyattsville. Full service salon, everything from facials, hair, pedi. Everybody was friendly, professional, and competent. The salon itself looks nice and is well kept. Its a bit pricey, but worth it.

I had a great facial today. Great! So so excited that The Ivy Lounge came to Hyattsville!!!

First time in the salon this past weekend. Had a wonderful experience and really enjoyed the overall ambiance. All of the stylists were friendly and mine in particular, Stephanie, did a great job with my color, cut, and blowout! I can’t wait to return for a blowout again, they have quite the selection at affordable prices.

Ivy lounge is very nice inside, has a very friendly staff, and is clean. I only got a pedicure during my visit. The oils and brushes used did not make me cringe or want to kick (which is a huge plus because I can be quite ticklish), there was a wide selection of colors, and the technician was very nice. The downsides were waiting 20 minutes for my appointment to start and the lack of foot massage (which are key to me for pedicures). The entire appointment took about 45 minutes which is not too bad if your looking for a quicker service.

I really wanted to like this salon because I have been looking for a professional salon that provides all spa svcs in my neighborhood. I went on Tuesday evening for gel mani and pedi.
My svc technician was very nice. Gail. She was big on healthy nails and recommended that I let my nails go natural for a little since I had gel nails for a long time. I was thinking the same so I took her advice. Service was good and she wanted to make sure I was good. Took $ 10 off for the $ 80 total charge because it was my first time. That was nice.
Here goes the «but» story. But, I realized the toe nail polish I got didn’t look the same out. Needs some more lighting. I was disappointed in my color when I came out. Looked nice inside but not outside.
The place is pretty new but still needs some decorations. As I told Gail, this place looks like a house, not a home. There’s no warm personal touch to the place.
I was going to come back for gel nails but the selection of the colors was very minimal. Had gelish colors whic are usually thick and creamy which I don’t like. I like light colors. Hence, with no colors of my likings, I won’t be coming back here to get my gel nails.
It has some protential to do really well esp w those of us who don’t mind paying for the service and atomsphere. Just needs some more selection of colors, lighting, and the warm feel.

I had my first manicure in a very long time (and my first ever gel manicure) with Sevilla today. I wanted 1920s style nails, which means the half-​moons are not painted. She was meticulous in her attention to detail and was lovely to spend an hour with. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

I can’t believe I’m writing the first review for Ivy Lounge! It’s a gem of a salon/​day spa in rapidly expanding, awesome Hyattsville. Beautiful décor with a relaxed vibe and great music… they offer mimosas and beverages with your service.
I’ve had two gel manicures and one pedicure — never had such attention to detail. My nails look perfect — great selection of colors, too. Love their nail tech — she is fun, professional, and does a great job.
Got a waxing service today — NEVER had such a pain-​free experience.
I’m so glad Ivy Lounge is in my neighborhood, walking distance from my house! Welcome to Hyattsville!
